Star Wars Currency

star buck

Mark Brooks wondered what currency might look like in a galaxy ruled by the Empire. Created for the Star Wars Fan Days in 2007, the result is the “Starbuck”.

As a guest artist and I wanted to do something for the show. There’s a lot of artwork out there most as posters, lithographs or prints so I wanted to do something different. While watching The original Star wars I realized that talk of money is thrown around quite a lot but you never actually see it (other than Han flipping the bartender a coin after shooting Greedo). I thought it would be cool to design a piece of Imperial currency as I saw it. I designed it mostly after American money but used some European influences as well.” … “Darth Vader was used on the 1 credit bill for the same reason the most famous American, George Washington, was used on the one dollar bill. It’s the first standard credit the Empire uses to measure it’s rate to other currency so I used the most recognizable figure from Star Wars. The Death Star is is under construction instead of a completed Death Star to show the growth of the Empire and it’s ever expanding reach. It’s symbolic more than anything else. Yes, they probably used universal credit cards or something else but I thought this would be cool, nothing more, nothing less.”

Ok could you please stop with with the /film reposts? That's four now by my count.

For those that don't know what I'm talking about and think I'm a crazy old man telling kids to get off my lawn /film or slash film is an excellent movie blog. Dangerous Incorporated has been copying blog entries made there and posting them here verbatim.

Examples one, two, three and four.

In the 'The Force action figure' thread I called him out on it but got no reply. I'm asking if you are Peter Sciretta? Because if you are not you're just plagiarising the guys good work and being really annoying in doing so.

Is it illegal to post news item from another website? Good work on that bill (some fancy filters used or just old plain drawing from the scratch?), although I consider it as a good joke, nothing more. When I saw the title of this thread I expected to see the photos of those credit chips Han paid "for the mess". Anyone has these?
I saw the original theatrical release of the Old Trilogy on the big screen and I'm proud of it...
How did I accomplish that (considering my age) is my secret...

It isn't necessarily illegal (though it can be), but it is certainly frowned upon. Especially if someone just goes around making posts that are all plagiarized from someone else, giving the impression that he is the author. When you do something like that it is appropriate to cite a source. Not aiming this at Dangerous Incorporated (for all I know, he could be the blogger at /film, though probably not), but the whole typical lack of citation is an example of how the internet is turning everyone into Neanderthals. Suddenly everyone is a journalist with their own blog page or whatever other fancy names they give them, and they feel free to rip off the ideas of others and claim them as their own, or at least not claim anything of them and allow reader's to assume they are their own.

I remember in Sluggo's SW Valetine contest a few years ago, a contestant came up with some really well thought out Valetines, which it turned out he stole from another site. When someone pointed it out, he calmly replied, "The rules never said it had to be your own work, so they still count as my entries". Pah! Stuff like that shouldn't have to be explained. Neanderthals. I swear, evolutionary regression has begun.
