Star Wars CD Cover Art Thread

I was just curious about something- has anyone made any covers for any of the projects and fan edits that are out there- for CD cases instead of the full-blown DVD cases? For someone with a lot of discs and not as much room, this would be great and it'd conserve a lot more space. I'm looking specifically for covers for the split-screen trilogy, MagnoliaFan edits, ADigitalMan edits, and Deleted Magic.

I just wondered if this had ocurred to anyone else, or if anyone else had a need for this. I mean, the full blown DVD covers are nice, but you have to buy cases, buy the photo paper, etc. And it takes a lot of ink as well.

Thanks!

As far as cases go...there are several ways to get free cases.

I personally figure out when my local Blockbuster Video Rental store is getting a new shipment in, and since they take all the discs out and put them in special "Blockbuster" cases...they throw the original, BRAND NEW cases away.

You can ask the management for them and many times they will oblige, as it is garbage to them anyways....or if you need to be sneaky, I suppose one could go dumpster diving...although that is morally questionable (It probably wouldnt be too gross though...how much nasty garbage could a vidoe rental place generate...right?)

As Far as printing covers go....you really dont need photopaper or fancy printers per se....I actually go to my school and print them off with a color laser printer on normal document paper, then use a paper cutter and cut them out nice and neat. It works beautifully. THe only bad thing is that my college charges like 15 cents per page. Still...when you think of it like that...a dollar or two could get you a TON of covers.

I'm not sure of the username but I know there were some CD cover cases posted either in the first cover art torrent or possibly just in the Star Wars DVD cover thread. I think the guy had done a generic set (ie. could be used with any preservation effort or even the retail discs), a set for the splitscreen trilogy and one for Deleted Magic. The generic ones imitated the style of the crawls, with yellow text on a black starry background. They were pretty cool. Have a look in the cover art thread and the torrent and if you can't find 'em within the next few days I'll try and find them on my discs and upload them for you.

There are some good 3-disc DVD case covers - these would take up less room then 3 CD cases... or do you mean you want a 3-disc CD case cover?

Here's where you'll find some 3-dsic covers....

Falle's
- the one on this page is designed for a thick spine.

DanB's
- the one on this page is designed for a thin spine.

Rikter's
- again, thin spines.

RixGrafix (username?)
- thick spines.

And finally, more can be found here:
Various Artists
with both thick and thin spines.

And I think my list is even, kind of in chronological order with the newest first and the oldest last... though i didn't deliberately make this order.

BTW: I know Coov has more covers at another location, not just at the "various artists" link - Coov, where can i find your other trilogy DVD covers?
Some were not blessed with brains.

Well, Davis, looks like you're in luck. I found the folder of those covers. The folder is named "RP_Coltrane" for anybody who wants to check to see if they have them (I am guessing they are from the first or second cover torrent).

I can put up a megaupload, yousendit or rapidshare link for these, Davis - so let me know which service to use and whether you want them in a rar file or a zip file. Here is the list:
* Basic 'stars & crawl' covers and labels (OT only)
* Deleted Magic cover and label
* Alternate generic disc labels (OT only)
* MagFan's BOTF and TCW covers and labels
* WookieGroomer Splitscreen Trilogy covers and labels

I myself have done some CD cover art for Star Wars. They were for a fan's music compilation (Symphony for a Saga). I don't have the time to find those, but if I do find them over the next few weeks I'll edit them to be generic covers for the films and post them here. Perhaps we should rename this thread the 'Star Wars CD Cover Art Thread'. It won't be nearly as large as the DVD cover thread - but it would make finding these covers much easier.

Cool. Now hopefully others will post CD cover type art.

Davis, please let me know which site to upload with. I recommend YouSendIt.

Thanks so much man! That's just what I had in mind. Like you said, hopefully others will make a few other covers sized for jewel cases.

I know this isn't up to everyone's quality standards, but I just crop and shrink other people's DVD covers down to fit a 4.75"x4.75" square. Not perfect, but good enough for me.
