"Star Wars: Bounty Hunter - Beyond The Game" a Galactus & MoveAlong Production — Page 2

Forgive my ignorance. As I was reading the description of this project, I was thinking that "cut scenes" were bits that weren't used. So I wasn't exactly sure what the nature of this project was. But then it dawned on me that in the context of a video game it might mean something else. You see, I haven't been a gamer since the 8-bit NES. But I *did* play Golgo 13, and I recalled the sequences between the game-play that furthered the story. A search of Wikipedia confirmed my hunch.

So, now that I have dialed in to what's going on here, can you tell me what the running time is of the main feature?

I'll be sending out several copies of this over the next few days. I'll also be sending PM's to a couple of folks who have asked about PIF's. If anyone who grabs this off myspleen or alt.binaries.starwars can also help out with PIF's, that would be great too!

Thanks Rikter for posting this on myspleen! My Star Wars preservation DVD collection wouldn't be anything without all the generous work you do!

I would love to see some reviews of the DVD if anyone would like to chime in. It's been snatched from myspleen 125 times now, so someone is bound to have an opinion! Has anyone found the easter eggs?

There were a few items concerning the game that I was never able to track down. I would still like to try to find the following stuff....you never know if there could be another Bounty Hunter project in the distant future! Some of these are mentioned earlier in this thread, but this is everything I'm aware of right now:

http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/1813/advertisementthumbnailsh7.jpg

-- I would like to find a full-size image of the above picture. I think it was a UK print advertisement for the game. I would also like print advertisements from anywhere else in the world.

-- Looking for an episode of G4's "Screen Savers" that had an interview with game director Jon Knoles. There are probably some other clips broadcast on G4 concerning the game when it was released in 2002, anything else is of interest too.

-- Looking for a webcast on GameSpot Live from May 22, 2002 that showed a sneak peek of Bounty Hunter from E3, and an interview with Jon Knoles.

-- Looking for an archived version of "The Hunt Begins" web site (a promotion for the release of the game in the UK) at www.thehuntbegins.co.uk. The site is now gone, parts of it are viewable at the Internet Archive HERE, but it is very incomplete. Does anyone have any images from this promotion?

-- Lastly, I'm looking for anything else that isn't in the DVD-ROM section of "Star Wars: Bounty Hunter - Beyond The Game." I can't imagine there being much that wasn't already on the DVD, but you never know. I'm sure there's probably some concept or promotional art out there that I didn't find!

Thanks for any help!

Well, just finished going through this DVD. As expected the transfer is just gorgeous and the special features abundant....but, and this is in my humble opinion only, the fact that it is what it is, as in just the cutscenes, makes it feel lacking to me. It kind of gives it less reqatchability. I can't really see myself revisiting it too often, since the story dosen't flow. No maybe I'm biased because of the way I like to do things, as anyone whose watched my discs will know, but thats just how I feel.

Saying that, I knew what I was, and wasn't getting, here and like a famous British TV advert says....it does exactly what it says on the tin.

Good job fellas

I just got mine today and just finished watching it. It looks fantastic! It's to bad it's only the cut scenes, but I still think it looks terrific! I'm sure that if actual gameplay were included, it would've taken far longer to complete.

I'll be seeding this on the spleen to help out and PiF to the first 2 people to PM me (US only please).

Awesome job guys!

While we were making the DVD, MoveAlong and I discussed that the story isn't terribly cohesive by just watching the cinematic cut scenes. However, that was the goal of this release: to compile the cut scenes and as much bonus material as possible.

Much of the story of the game is also told during the actual gameplay and in-game animations. Including that stuff just opens a whole can of worms that we didn't want to tackle yet. In the Bounty Hunter game, the cut scenes are 16x9 anamorphic widescreen, the gameplay is 4x3 full screen, and the in-game animations are 4x3 letterboxed.

MoveAlong put a lot of work into making sure this DVD would look good to people who have both standard 4x3 TV's and 16x9 widescreen TV's. For instance, a game commercial on the DVD that is 4x3 full screen on a standard TV will appear with pillars on the sides when viewed on a 16x9 display so the image won't be distorted. As an owner of a 16x9 TV, this was really important to me. I was tired of seeing DVD's that were either letterboxed but not anamorphic, or had 4x3 bonus features that were all stretched and distorted on a 16x9 display.

Mixing this footage of various aspect ratios from the gameplay and cut scenes (and making it look good for folks with both 4x3 and 16x9 displays) would be an interesting project.....one we may want to tackle one day. In fact, check out the "DVD Credits" in the Special Features section of "Beyond The Game" for more on this.....

I just had a chance to watch this, and I must say I was very impressed. The technical aspect of the disk was the most impressive part. The menus are professional, and the easter eggs were amusing.

While it's true that the cutscenes do not tell a complete story, that didn't detract from my enjoyment. The cutscenes themselves look amazing. If this is the animation style that will be used in the upcoming Clone Wars TV series, sign me up!

BTW, I liked Zam's character a lot more in this game than in Episode II

If you really want the full story, it looks like there are a series of movie files in the DVD-ROM content that show cutscenes AND gameplay (though I haven't watched them all, or even made a dent in the DVD-ROM material).

Thanks to Galactus and MoveAlong for a great disc!
