I've had the star wars saga blu-rays for some time now I enjoy everything about them picture , sound , extras, everything. Sure episode 1 is not perfect transfer on blu-ray because of the DNR issues but it's a decent transfer. The other 5 star wars films on blu-ray look very good though with ROTS and the original trilogy looking the best. Sure some fans are not going to like the new color timing of the OT from 2004 but it's not a big issue for me and some of the error's from the 2004 dvd release's for the OT have been corrected for the blu-ray's. Sound wise the films have never sounded better with the DTS HD Master Audio 6.1 soundtrack on blu-ray. Episode 4 sound's very good on blu-ray and again most of the audio problems from the 2004 dvd release for Episode 4 have been corrected. And the other 5 films of the saga sound good on blu-ray too.

I agree with SOME parts.

1) Yes, Episode I is not perfect.

2) I don't like the "new color timing"

3) 100% correct - SOME errors from the 2004 DVD release have been corrected. That's the problem. Either fix EVERYTHING or NOTHING.

4) Episode 4 sounds very good ???? Are you on drugs ? What about this ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0EUjobdavw  It's hilariously bad and kills the movie for me

pittrek yes some errors where corrected some where not and episode 4 sounds good on blu-ray now that the force fan fare music has been restored at the end of the film. the new mix sound good if you don't agree it sounds good well that's your opinion. But I like the new blu-ray sound mix of episode 4.

The Bluray sound mix has only a few minor changes from the DVD version.  Everything else about it is exactly the same messed up, distorted pile of garbage that it was before.  If you think this sounds good, you need to have your hearing checked at the very least.

ROTS looks very good, except for the weird grain that comes and goes depending on the shot, and the Emperor's new dandruff problem at the end of the movie. None of this appears on the DVD.

I can't be the only person seeing this stuff?

Maybe you're the only person buying this stuff.  ;-)

For the record, I bought it used on Ebay. Why my insanely low best offer was accepted is beyond me! ;)

I like the blu-rays if some of you don't that's your opinion. I understand why some fans won't buy it cause of the changes etc and cause of some issues fans have complained about over the years but the bottom line is the blu-rays are worth getting.

You might think it was worth getting at the moment of release.

I know it isn't worth me getting at all.

IMO, the one overriding reason that the set can be "worth it" is for the 3 old-school documentaries on Disc 9.  The prices on the secondary market for legit versions of "The Making of Star Wars", "SP FX: The Empire Strikes Back", and especially for the Japan-only "Classic Creatures" LD together rival the cost of the BD set.

Yes, I know that almost everyone on this site has at least on LD-to-DVD transferred version of each of the documentaries (Rowman's for me) but to have a proper release is nice in itself.

How are they encoded? AVC? How high is the bitrate?

I didn't buy the set myself, but someone in my family did, and I've borrowed them for an indeterminate amount of time.. ;)

One thing about the bonus stuff that really annoys me are the damn borders - thankfully they're not around the deleted scenes and main docus, but they're around EVERYTHING ELSE. Really annoying.

The matte paintings was something I wanted to see actually. They could have done them a little bit better and shown more of them though. I tried to cap all of them (already sent to Harmy) - here are the screens: http://www.sendspace.com/file/rb9k2d
Please check if I got them all, and feel free to repost them in the appropriate threads and put them on image-sites if you want.

I don't have much desire to watch the movies tbh..

The scene with franken-vader? I didn't notice anything from a quick look. Timecodes?

Not sure how they are encoded on the BD since i don't have it.  I do know they are from the digital video masters from the 90's, probably the self same as those used on the japan laserdiscs without the burned in subtitles of course.

These are not proper releases because not only did Lucas not go back to the negatives, he did not scan 16mm LPP prints either.  Dump to disc just like the gout.

Silverwook i read about Luca$h adding fake grain to the blu ray but i thought it was another internet myth, sigh.

In Revenge of the Sith there's a shot of troopers in the Jedi temple, shooting Jedi and younglings (just before the scene where Anakin confronts the padawans). Is this new to the Blu Ray? I don't remember this at all.

Well, that's like, your opinion, man

Eight-year-olds, Dude.

But seriously though, a few months ago you said all if not most errors of the DVD's (including the 'colars', ofcourse.) AND even those found in youtube clips of the Blu-rays(!) would be fixed by Lucasfilm, and you said you 'couldn't wait for all six movies of the awesome saga remastered and fixed for the blu-ray release (with DTS!)', while you complain about us on other forums. September arrived and you seemed to have disappeared from the face of the earth. The reason why you didn't come here to further promote the blu-rays is debatable, but right now you're saying 'yeah, there are still errors...ehm...Star Wars on Blu-ray! Yay!'. Is it just me, or is that a little contradicting yourself?

'Yeah, i understand why some people don't get them...but still people, get them.'

So far the pro's and cons of the OT blu-rays for me are

Pros: Somewhat better sound, movies are sharper, deleted scenes, some other extras, some fixes.

Cons: Most is left unfixed, pink sabers are even more pink now, more unnecessary stuff added  like the Krayt call and Darth Vader's 'No! NOOO!' (which also brings along more errors, like the disappearing rock), still an odd colortiming, some scenes are way too dark.

I'm sorry, but right now the movies aren't worth getting. Wait for 'fixed' editions (or 'original' editions for that matter) :P

We still talking about kenkraly?

Guy is either a troll, a child, or a mentally disturbed individual. Just read his posts - incoherent, repetitive, and unsubstantial.

He told everyone about an email from LFL saying all color issues were corrected. Nobody else received such an email. I called him out back then and later again when the images/videos began to leak.

Ignore him.

I actually thought they were worth getting. Sure it doesn't amount up to the majority of the fan edits around here, but still i think its worth it. My opinion of course.

I do think the sound in some of the dvd's, (Not ROTS) was better and i thought the picture was better in them too. Still not a big improvement. The thing that irritates me is that the ESB still has the blue freakin' tint in it.

So, not a big improvement but better.

Agreed!

Unlike most people though, I realized while watching ESB on Blu Ray last night that I actually prefer its blue tint.
