Star Wars 9 Film Saga... Abrams Edition?

If J.J. Abrams stayed on for the whole ST, would you want to see an Abrams "director"'s cut version of the saga? With his love of the OT, I'm curious to see if he might bring us a better connected, streamlined film series. What are your thoughts?

Abrams wouldn't be able to make Directors' Cuts of the first 6 movies.

I don't get it. Why would someone who loves the movies as they are want to change them?

Also, the two trilogies we have now are far too connected as it is. The OT (or rather what's left of it) is the only thing holding up the PT.

in a recent interview, when questioned whether Han shot first, Abrams responded "I would argue there was only one shot fired"... that alone shows the potential for how he'd prefer the OT be viewed before the ST. Which leaves the PT. Yes, hed be limited to the same story, but imagine the potential alternate takes, deleted scenes, etc. that could be used to create the ultimate FanEdit. I would love to see that saga. 9 films, respectfully structured to be watched one after the other, by someone who loves them.

Of course, im sure PT:Revisited would still be better ;)

Yeah, I think that it is mostly in the way that the story is told that makes the PT unwatchable. At its core it has many strengths, and if Abrams were to restructure them, it would go a long way to making them stand on their own. But if you can simply change the past, that destroys creativity. Restrictions breed it, and the PT is one heck of a restriction to a great saga. Better to select the story of the ST in a way that makes the PT and the OT better.

I wanted to say, "Ask George Lucas," but I guess he didn't love them as they were. Hence the changes. :P

The difference is that the storytelling in the prequels is shot straight to hell. All the careful editing in the world can't save scenes that are filled to overflowing with non-sequitur dialogue. Pay attention to those scenes some time, the stuff people say is often followed up by completely illogical replies.

If Abrams (or someone else) must deal with the prequels at all, I'd actually prefer a reboot of them.

Dune is one of my all time favs! Shame even Lynch is ashamed of it, because the one time that guy did epic sci-fi it was awesome.
