Star Wars 3-D in 2007

Isn't kind of late to make a 3-D movie. This is real belive me I found it on wikipedia.

Lucas says it is a different kind of 3D than what you would think. It supposedly makes all objects more defined and accentuated. It's not that horrible "JAWS 3D" type 3D from back in the 80's I mean, come on, Lucas has better standards than that! (scratch that last remark)

Ooh, goody! Because that was such a fine piece of cinema! Not as good as Spy Kids, mind you, but it revolutionized the entire film industry!

Now that that's out of the way...

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

3d often gets a bad rap. It takes a lot of technincal elements to be just right, and it can all be undone by improper projection at your local theater. There was a brief 3d revival on a couple Los Angeles stations in the 80's. (A lot of those red/blue glasses were sold.) Bad tv reception and improperly calibribrated tv sets ruined the effect for many people. The polarized glasses system Jaws 3d and other films used was just as vulnerable. It worked pretty good for Captain Eo though!

I have no problem with 3-D as a genre. In fact, it's pretty cool. I just think George Lucas should squeeze two simple words into the middle of his passionate love affair with Star Wars: "letting go." It's over. Stop trying to change things. Stop trying to revive it. Stop milking your cash cow. Move on with your life before you bury Star Wars and ruin it any more than you already have.

I have to agree, but the problem is there are also proposed TV series coming up, more cartoons coming up, It seems to be getting pointless and never ending. I personally would like George to do something other than Star Wars and get back to doing stuff however unlikely like THX 1138 and American Graffiti. I would hate to see Star Wars to just a become "another" Sci-Fi franchise, when in my opinion it was always bigger than just any old franchise
Now this 3-D seems to me like an excuse the throw out a Star Wars product with a new gimmick for the 30th Anniversary and then just to milk the franchise to death with as many TV shows and cartoons as possible.

You all don't seem to understand, this isn't 3D in the regular sense we are talking about here, Lucas himself even said that, this is one that makes the scenery and characters look more realistic. That's the best way to describe it.

If I ever get the chance, I probably will go see it. That way I will have an informed opinion. But I really don't like it solely on principle. Because he's always coming out with some sort of gimmick to rehash his old movies and pretend like he's actually doing something new and worthwhile. Even if it's things that people absolutely hates, it gets him attention. I mean, I hate the fact that the movies were changed again, but I own the DVDs. I preordered them before I knew they were being changed more. But it was a re-release, and it'll get people's attention, and they'll buy into it simply because it's Star Wars. So let's make a Special Edition. Let's make Jar-Jar Binks. Let's make Star Wars in 3-D. Don't you realize it's not going to stop until people stop caring? And when people stop caring, Star Wars will be completely ruined. And it's simply because Lucas is afraid to try anything new. He's afraid to branch out and take a risk. And he's in the best position to take a risk, being the head of a huge company. But he just has to keep sticking to Star Wars, rehashing and re-releasing the same things with minor modifications because it's the easy thing to do. And it brings in the cash, and it may be commercially popular right now, but it's killing Star Wars little by little. It's dividing the fanbase into those who will eat up everything Star Wars and those who think that the Special Editions, etc. are a bad idea. I for one think that the prequels, although they have their moments, did their part in killing a little piece of Star Wars. Because now the official Star Wars canon includes things like Anakin creating 3PO, Jar-Jar Binks existing, Leia having memories of her mother even though she was two seconds old when her mother died! Botched story elements like that just cheapen the overall feel of Star Wars, and that's what I'm afraid this 3-D version will do simply because it's another rehash that's running Star Wars into the ground.

Sorry to rant like that. Continue what you were doing.

Oh, if it is in the Wikipedia it MUST be real!

Jokes aside, this is old news. As others have said, this isn't the old school 3D, or even very similar to more recent attempts. This is a new method that has apparently blown away many major directors and producers, George Lucas is only one of many backing this new technology, Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Robert Zemeckis, Robert Rodriguez and Randal Kleiser have also been quite vocal about it. Peter Jackson has hinted that he wants to get The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and a few of his other films converted (and has shown excerpts of LotR).

The old 3D films were created using a camera system consisting of two lenses, basically two cameras connected. Obviously Star Wars, etc, wasn't filmed with such cameras so the new method actually figures out a z-plane based off the standard flat film so George doesn't even need to touch the film, the one company (In-Three Inc) does all the conversion so he doesn't have much to compell him to further edit the actual film.

Lucas has actually already showed excerpts of Episodes II and IV. Currently the plan is one episode each year starting in 2007 for the 30th anniversary. Then you can look as stylish as these guys!

Apart from the new conversion process for flat films, we would have to wear electronic LCD shutter glasses which isn't a new idea.

Urgh...more changes to Star Wars that don't need to be made. Someone should assassinate GL for his own good. Hell, someone should've assassinated him in '96.

Let me set the scene: The morning of Tuesday, September 8, 2005. FOX and Friends is coming on the air.

Anchor: "FOX NEWS ALERT!!!! Yesterday, a fan on a die hard fan site, originaltrilogy.com made remarks wishing for the asassination of filmmaker, George Lucas. Lucasfilm is asking for an apology, as well is the general public, who are defending Lucas."

Then for two months they discuss the issue with every single possinle analyst, then a blond girl goes missing...

Well, obviously not assassinated, but he should've been locked up in a mental institution since 1995.

Hes messed up the franchise slightly and may be he deserves the grief from some fans I feel

1. Doesnt release the film(s) in the that inspired and are loved by a generation(s)

2. Releases SE which change parts of a story and puts in meaninless scenes when all that was needed was fixes and a bit of updating and to compound it all does not release the originals so the fans dont have a choice

3. Prequels- Good ideas but spoils them by not getting colleberation, creating inconsistencies between trilogies, adding stupid plot points eg Having Anakin/Vader create 3-PO

etc

I feel Star Wars has lost some of its greatness, because of though not all, some of Lucas descions for the franchise, which have alienated sections of the SW fanbase.

Star Wars fans have allowed themselves to become alienated due to Lucas' own creative decisions.

He changed his movies but the last time I checked he wasn't sneaking into people's housed and raping their childhoods like everyone complains. That's Michael Jackson's job besides (rim shot). The original trilogy is widely available in numerous formats for your enjoyment, get it, burn it, watch it and shut up about it.

EDIT - my wisecracking isn't aimed at any of my brothers and sisters here, just a general statement on the lazy Star Wars fans that regurgitate everything they read on message boards about Lucas.

Most messageboards I go to also spell Lucas like this:
Luca$

Oh, I know. They spell it Luca$ as they sit in their Yoda underoos surrounded by Star Wars merchandise unaware of the irony.

They are the ones who lined Lucas' pockets, and now fault him for it. I hope he's laughing at all of them before eating deep fried gold.
