So we finally have confirmation of Hayden's head. The scream's gone as well. Either way, I am so not buying this. I'm also going to put dad through hell if he does(he says he won't,but.......).

Ah, so they fire their guns simultaneously. How nice.

Amen to that.

All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. They have also changed the showdown between Greedo and Han Solo in the Mos Eisley Cantina; Greedo still fires, but not before Han does. They fire their guns simultaneously.

WTF!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

I already decided against buying this set so I can't say this fact has changed my decision about buying it. But I don't want this set even more than before. If that is possible.

So Jimbo, you still believe the "official" word of TheDigitalBits who said the original scene was being restored?

Man - I pre-paid for mine a LONG time ago - I still want to watch them but I just might just take them to Wal-Mart (I did not buy them there but I bet I can return them there!) and see If I can get store credit so I can buy some TP

I own the Definitive LD's, but i'm still buying the set, not because of the revisions, but because I want to see the special features, the commentary and I want to use the DVD quality for editing.

I'm going to keep the majority of unaltered original scenes on the DVD (except for improvements in mattes, laser blast and saber effects), and edit useing the Difinitive Collection for scenes such as Greedo and Han..obviously there will be a drop in quality as soon as I insert the LD scenes into the edit, but some of these scenes are so short it might night be very noticable, some revisions can simply be overdubbed (Boba fett and new Vader dialogue), and some just cut, (Jabba scene in ANH).

So many are people are buying the set, I think it's a lost cause thinking boycotting it will make Lucas change his mind...The best bet is possibly a future definitive DVD set that will include the originals, or allow you to turn off or on the revisions...Don't get me wrong, I support the purists and fully support the originals being released.

I don't think boycotting will change his mind. That's not my reason for not purchasing it. I'm not purchasing it because I can think of dozens of DVDs that deserve my hard-earned money much more than this piece of revisionist crap.

Ditto. I just spent my money on anime videos. Lucas will see my cash again when he starts waking up. until then, the EU will have to continue covering for him. The guy's got way too much power, when the best comes from a collective effort.

That's a great review.

I had already made up my mind not to buy this release but I hope that this and other such reviews that are sure to follow suit will convince the unaware that these are not the films we love.

I'll be forwarding this review on to others in the hopes of dropping the sales points by at least a few.

It's amazing how few people are actually aware of the horrible, horrible new changes that have been inflicted upon the OT. Even clerks in stores who are pushing the release have no clue.

Anyway the next edits will have three releases to mix from.

To quote the war-president "Bring em on".

I can attest to that. I walked into Suncoast wearing a Star Wars t-shirt and one of the clearks said, "You've probably got the DVD preordered, huh." "Nope, though I know that you're required to ask that(reffering to the shirt)" "Why not?", I told him about Hayden and how they weren't Star Wars to me and he seemed totally oblivious.

Yeah Hayden and Kiwi Fett were all it took for me to change their minds.

I'd hate to be working on the refunds counter at any DVD store in the next month.

8am September 22nd.

"Good morning sir. How can I help you today?"

"Uhm... Hi, yeah. There seems to be something terribly wrong with this copy of the Star Wars trilogy. For some reason it sucks now."

"Yes I'm afraid that's a problem with all of the copies, it's because there's something terribly wrong with the series' creator."

"Huh... Okay, well can I exchange this piece of crap for something better?"

"Certainly sir."

After the first few hours it'd get to the stage where as soon as the clerk saw a guy in his late-twenties to early-forties heading over to the counter with a parcel under his arm and a pissed-off/confused look on his face they'd have a routine worked out.

"Good afternoon sir, you can just drop your Star Wars trilogy DVDs in the bin provided to your left, take this ticket and go pick out something from the shelf. Thank you and welcome to the rest of your life."

LOL If only it were true, I'd get in that line...
The original Star Wars trilogy: Our cultural history deserves to be preserved and should be available to the public like all great works of art!

Hell, I'd pull a Garden State and grab all the copies off the shelves to use as "returns" and walk up to the line and deposit them in the drop box and just start handing out the vouchers to people looking for the SW movies.

And then he trades it for a copy of Battlefield Earth and dies while watching. The end.

The lesson we learned from this story: stop watching holywood movies and read a book.

ok, some (like me) were planning on buying it to work from as source material for future edits or to show off a kick ass A/V system...THX/Widescreen/DTS...right?????

Wrong! No DTS is this boxset, as a matter of fact, this is his review of the sound...

In Fox’s view there is nothing wrong with the sound and they will not recall any discs. I compared the sound of this scene on the dvd with the same scene on the VHS version from 1997. I can hear no tonal differences between the lines on the latter. To me it seems like the sound of the VHS version is better than the sound of the dvd version in this particular scene. I must admit that feels rather strange.

Because of this flawed sound, I cannot give this edition of Star Wars: A New Hope more than 7 out of 10 in this category. The other two movies both receives the top score since I couldn’t hear any flaws there.

...UHHHH, that sucks...THE STAR WARS TRILOGY, A 7/10 for sound, muffled in parts, clear in others, no DTS soundtrack. HMMM. That sucks. Rock on George Lucas! I knew you were going to butcher the content but to make the sound at parts worse than VHS, awesome!

I just read the IGN review as well...

A New Hope has the most problems, and not where you think. The glaring example is when Grand Moff Tarkin grills Princess Leia for the location of the rebel base or he would toast Alderan. This is simply a conversation between the two, but as the scene cuts from one shot to another, the audio quality rises and drops notably. One angle sounds soft and muffled, while another angle is clear and sharp.

...It also mention very notable scan lines in Ep. IV. and gave the video and 8/10. The guy that was remastering the picture said he could have used another year.

Nice.
