Oh, I promise that it will get released sometime soon.

However, it won't be as good as it can be, due to the AGC-related problems.

:-(

Anyway, I find that PS78 is a bit too green-tinted for my taste.

True the green tint is distracting, and also other flaws, but purely as a historical record for a full-bodied print I reckon PS78 is king

Are the colors the same?

The colors in retardedted's preservation are wonderful.

Yes, it is the exact same transfer. They are nice and vibrant, it is a little red tinted but not much was really done with the actual hues in these old video releases, it is the brigtness, contrast and gamma that was fiddled with but that greatly affects how the colors look of course.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

Nice! This might just make me a P&S fan.

Why wasn't this transfer used for the '82 LDs?

A picture is worth a thousand words. Post 102 is worth more.

I’m late to the party, but I think this is the best song. Enjoy!

No idea why they made two different transfers that same year:

'82 CED / LD / HBO broadcast (time compressed)

'82 betamax / VHS / '85 LD

It is a little weird, they are also made from the same film elements. I actually like some aspects of the time compressed transfer as well, just unfortunate that it is time compressed. A good preservation of both these historical video transfers would be nice.

Should we ask SilverWook to preserve his '82 Rental Betamax tape?

I totally feel like a kid again.

The extra vertical resolution in the P&S transfer kicks ass.

I'm going to have to add this to my long list of forthcoming preservations.

1982_release: Your VHS is the '82 "drawer" retail version. Click the following hyperlink for more information. http://swonvideo.com/vhs/vvhsanh1982us2.htm

It's worth less than the rental version because it's more common.

I hope this helps!

thanks I see more copys of the rental edition for sale then the non rental ones.

I have the only non rental

sure some idiot will pay more for the retail barely used one then a worn out tape that may not play very well.

I see that this week Ebay has original 1982 rental tapes listed for as much as $7500! But if you are looking for one another seller is offering what he claims is a privately owned (never rented) copy of the rental (not retail) version which was purchased new in '82 and the bidding is currently at only $1.04.

$50 here.

Mine has the bottom of the string: "MAGVID 3" at the top left of the video, but I've only ever seen mention of "FOXVID".

What does yours say?

The MAGVID3 line's a nice little echo of Magnetic Video... maybe they had forgotten to switch one of the duplication lines then?

I'll try and get back on there soon.  I also think it is still up on a.b.starwars if you have usenet access.

Managed to grab it after awhile, actually. My speed eventually picked up. Thanks for the offer!

I'm definitely going to do a preservation of this before I sell my copy.

If it’s a rental then how do you still have it? Hmmmmm?

Are you a non-returner? Are you? ARE YA? >:[
