Star Wars (1977) Extended Edition...with Blu-Ray on the way

The teaser trailer for the Star Wars deleted scenes that will be included in the Blu-Ray release really caught my attention. I thought to myself, this will hopefully give fan editors an opportunity to recut the original film with the deleted scenes put back in.

When I watched Deleted Magic, this was the first time I'd ever seen any of the deleted footage from the original movie. I was captivated about what could have been, and basically viewed it as a representation of the extended film.

Now that we'll have the footage in its entirety and best quality available, I'm really looking forward to somebody taking on the task of splicing the scenes back in.

How I'd see the best possible cut is by using the Blu-Ray version of the movie but cutting inbetween Lucas's CGI edits with the original theatrical cut in the highest quality it's available in. Then I would cut in all deleted footage we know about, as well as whatever new footage they provide. However, I would leave out Han kissing the girl in the Cantina scene and recut the Obi-Wan intro scene to its original order.

I don't know if all the Biggs scenes will be included (it seems likely they will), but personally, I think they made the right choice cutting those. I am, however, interested in a cut of ROTJ that includes the lightsaber construction scene (John Williams also composed music for that scene, which could be easily added), and the extended Endor/bunker scene would be great to see integrated into the film, and maybe also the sandstorm scene (though, the scene of Luke in the cockpit that replaced that scene was probably also a wise decision).

While it'll be a fun novelty to see (on YouTube since I'll be damned if I'm actually going to buy this worthless set), I'm not keen on the idea of actually recutting the movie with those scenes.  I mean, they were cut for a reason, and, as the re-insertion of that idiotic Jabba scene shows, chances are it was a good reason. =P

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

The deleted scenes would look a lot less jarring if spliced into Puggo's stuff, but that's just one idea.

If they include the original Catina scene  like on The Behind The Magic CD-Rom.  I guess fans could use the Shot when 3PO says "I don't like the looks of this."

That shot would be without the CGI Dewback.  If its in 1080p.

There is going to be some matte painting in the set as well.

^Nice gag but that's not what the site is about.

This site is calling for the original versions of the films to be restored, preserved and made available to purchase and see in a theatre.

Some people here can't stand the official SEs, some people love them, some people appreciate them for what they should be, alternate versions, not the default versions, not the only versions available, not the only versions maintained.

As we have seen since 2004, even people who really love the SEs are being sold lemons over and over and over again.

Making unofficial SEs and extended cuts doesn't get in the way of calling for the original versions to be preserved as cultural artifacts.

If anything alternate SEs undermine the official position that the official SEs are the only versions of these films we are allowed to see.

It doesn't look like a baseball hat, especially given the pattern...but the little logo that kind of looks like the MLB logo is throwing me off.

I wasn't being serious, Bingo. I just like to poke fun sometimes.

I love OT.com, I really do. I'm 100% behind the purpose of the site, and God knows I'm as excited for the deleted scenes showing up in peoples' revisions of the movies as the next guy.

But, you know, if you can't laugh at yourself...

If it was up to me, the Blu Rays would have the original theatrical presentations of all 6 movies, the 97SE of the original trilogy, the DVD versions of all 6 movies, newer versions of all 6 with any additional tweaks George might want to add (ie, CG Yoda in Ep1 and Quigon in EpIII), and extended cuts of all 6 with all deleted scenes put back in.

I love Scumbag Steve and Good Guy Greg!  I just failed to recognize the hat :-(

Although that really should say "sleeps with deleted scenes."

keep in mind that the deleted scenes are part of the film and are soon to be lost. The blu ray versions of them will help restore Star Wars in its full and entirety but the main project of restoring the bare basics should come first then this should be tackled.

I keep hoping vainly that with the loss of profits Disney have suffered from John Carter of Mars and The Lone Ranger, they'll consider releasing the OOT properly. While I'm at it, I wish for a billion dollars, a Cadillac, world peace, a date with a supermodel who loves nerds, a new home theater system, and a Star Trek transporter.
