Star Wars (1977) - ‘Behind The Scenes / Making Of’ images thread…

A companion thread (of sorts) for the Original Trilogy Film Crew & People Behind The Scenes: Profiles, Info & Links… thread - which aims to highlight the sheer brilliance, hard work, talent and awesome contributions of the Original Trilogy film crew, designers & artists, model-makers, special effects, set production, costume & make-up, stuntmen (and women), background actors / extras, publicity, and other amazingly talented and dedicated people who worked ‘Behind The Scenes’ on ‘The Making Of’ these three classic, landmark and groundbreaking Star Wars films…

…some of which may not have been seen for many years - as their respective work (all - or parts of) has been removed and replaced via the later (and continuing) Special Edition changes - with the unaltered original theatrical version of the films remaining unavailable to officially buy and experience.

Or just a thread for putting up some great ‘Behind The Scenes / Making Of’ pics from the films (including deleted scenes too) 😃

There are two similar threads for the other films in the Original Trilogy below:-

Empire Strikes Back - ‘Behind The Scenes / Making Of’ images thread

Return Of The Jedi - ‘Behind The Scenes / Making Of’ images thread

So if you have a cool, rare, alternative, different or favourite ‘Behind The Scenes / Making Of’ photo or image (or any other BTS info), please share and talk about it, in here…

All credit to mykyta, Abel & Biggs for suggesting making these three promising BTS image threads.

My Jabba.

I prefer no Jabba at all in '77’s Star Wars, but if we are going to have one… then he was, is, and shall forever be, the original:-

RIP Declan Mulholland.

Interesting that Marvel didn’t use him and went with this guy…

Have there ever been any good images of Mulholland’s costume? I think I see a blaster hanging from his belt?

Also…NAKED CHEWIE! 😮

Hard to say. Looks like a boom pole or something across the ground. Better pics are tough to find.

I think there might be a Jabba costume sketch in The Art Of Star Wars, but I don’t have my copy handy. 😕

Did Jabba’s henchmen ever get names, especially the Greedo twins? And please don’t tell me one of them is Anakin’s little Rhodian pal from TPM. 😉

There is a 1975 John Mollo sketch of Jabba in Rinzler’s Making of SW - he’s basically humanoid but has a third eye in his forehead.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

That’s truly awesome, talk about a deep cut reference! When is beer gut/beret/scarf reflector guy going to get some love? 😛

One does wonder how George kept cool in that heat.

Ah, Topps trading cards. I can still smell the bubble gum!

How did they hide Anthony Daniels’ arm for the wide shots? IIRC, they were sort of puppeteering Threepio’s upper body only for the closeup and the wipe to the next scene helps conceal this as they lift him up. Even if a one armed man was available, he had to fit into the suit.

And does the used speeder lot alien have hooves for hands? 😮

I’ll say! And they already had the effect to rear project on the set it seems.

Just to make it clear, most of these are just regular production photos from the scenes as they were filming and others were just set up even though they don’t have anything to do with the film. Only some of them are from actual deleted scenes. They took thousands of production photos for reference.
