A Remaster of “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” that clears up the sound, rebalances the colour, and
a whole host of fixes. The purpose of Golden Edition isn’t to change Star Trek II but to simply correct
issues with sound and visuals that can potentially pull one out of the experience.

–Features and Settings–

3 audio tracks:

  • The 2022 Golden Edition Stereo Remaster (English)
  • 5.1 Surround (The original unaltered track from the official blu-ray release.)
  • Music Soundtrack - Yes, that’s right. I synced up the film’s original score with the visuals, which, as a bonus,
also includes some musical pieces that didn’t make the final cut.

8 subtitle tracks:

  • English
  • Danish
  • German
  • Spanish
  • French
  • Italian
  • Dutch
  • Swedish

–Audio Fixes–

  • ADR that sounds totally different from on-set audio has been improved.
  • Sound effects that are far too loud relative to dialogue levels has been rebalanced.
  • Reduced high base (approx. 100Hz range) and increased low base (approx. 25Hz range).
  • Increased High frequencies for a clearer presentation.
  • Cleared up instances of muffled dialogue.
  • Cleared up instances of muffled music.
  • Removed hissing and other background noise in severe cases.
  • Reduced dialogue peak distortions.
  • resynced intro music with Title and Credits animation.
  • Added audible feedback to touch screen intercoms.
  • Added an audible critical notifier during damage report sequence.
  • Reduced obnoxiously high tones in phaser firing sound effects.
  • Added rumble sound effects while screen is still shaking during Sulu’s “I can’t get power, sir!” line.
  • Re-centered stereo balance for transporter sound effects.
  • Added reverb to dialogue and sound effects during scenes with echoey environments.
  • Khan’s nervous sighs sync up with visually noticeable exhaling.
  • A torpedo no longer sounds similar to phasers (based on Star Trek 3’s firing sound, but NOT taken from).

–Visuals–

  • Reduced a sickly green tint present throughout the entire film.
  • Increased mid reds to liven up red uniforms and pale/yellowish skin tones.
  • Black levels have been improved.
  • Reduced extremely bright red emergency lights after Kirk’s “The hell are they?!” line till end of
    scene.
  • Brightness has been increased slightly.
  • Colour vibrance has been increased by 4%.
  • Cropped out Kirk’s gawking expression during the retina scan sequence.
  • stabilized image wobble from film camera malfunction caused by on-set explosion during Kirk’s
    “Scotty! What’s left?!” line.
  • spliced in a shot of the Enterprise’s viewscreen during the two ships blindly moving toward each
other to add more visual dynamics, and to match the audio.
  • Hid Reliant in a bright light until revealed in viewscreen to add anticipation of Reliant’s imminent
    attack.
  • Zoomed in on the viewscreen to emphasize the reveal of the Reliant.
  • Greatly reduced the amount of cyan in the self-illuminating lights on the Enterprise while taking
    damage and firing back.
  • Deceased Joachim’s eyes stay open when Khan embraces him.
  • Reliant’s comedically underwhelming Genesis explosion shockwave is now more powerful.

Is this the Director’s Cut?

No. The Director’s cut has some pacing issues, so the theatrical version is the basis for Golden Edition.
