Oh man! This girl is awesome and completely adorable!

If I were her father I would be incredible proud.

Wally, that is really cool you'll get to check out the new ride early. I loved the original ride. Here is hoping the new ride is as imagination inspiring to new generations of SW fans as the original one was to me as a kid (and I am sure it will be).

Seen the original video but hadn't seen this! Neat.

I'm upset about all the cameos (Vader, Yoda etc) but the different paths amuse me so I'm sure I'll ride it 10,000 times if it's open on Grad Nite - which it really should be, because my teacher said the old one was... but all the dark rides aren't. I'm so confused, but hopeful.

So the Star Tours preview was yesterday so I'm going to try to recall my experience in as great of detail that I can:

So, when you first walk in, you see C-3PO bickering with R2 just as in the original line but with completely different dialog. To the right there is a giant screen showing all the times that the "flights" are leaving in English and Aurebesh. It also showed advertisements for different planets. Mostly footage from the prequels that I saw. I did not see anything from the OT. The next room the first thing you see is the droid pilot from the original Star Tours malfunctioning, which I thought was pretty clever, and on the other side there is a robot doing "bag checks". At the end of that hallway you see silhouettes through a window of different species and droids. Then you walk by a robot and can see yourself in thermal vision. You're definitely not bored waiting in line. When you finally get to the boarding area and you get your "flight goggles" you proceed to the doors. Then, just like before, you watch a boarding video telling you not to do anything stupid pretty much. It is much like the old one just newer visuals. Finally, you get onto the ship, I was front row, 3 seats from the end. First, you hear C-3PO's voice arguing with R2 who was on a screen to your right. The blast door comes down to reveal that C-3PO is going to be the pilot. Apparently there are 54 different possibilities that can happen during the trip. Ours started off with the millennium falcon in front of us in a docking bay, I think it was supposed to be the scene where Luke, Han and Leia are escaping from the Death Star. A bunch of storm troopers were walking around and a little droid flew up to our view screen and "scanned us for rebel spies". It held up a photo of someone on the ride. Alerting us that he was the spy. Immediately we blasted off, following the Millennium Falcon out into space dodging a bunch of TIE fighters, which was pretty exhilarating. Then we went into hyperspace and came out just over the surface of Kashyyyk. reminiscent to the speeder bike chase in Jedi, we blew up a couple scouts and accidentally a wookiee bug plane thing causing a wookiee to hit our windshield and slide off. we flew higher and went to lightspeed again (with the blue hyperspace tunnel) while in hyperspace we received a transmission from Admiral Ackbar telling us to return the rebel spy to the base or something and we came out in a battle over Coruscant with the episode 3 X-wings flying around. We followed them a while watching them blow up some enemy fighters. I don't remember if the were Empire, keeping continuity or Seperatist which wouldn't make much sense. A couple "buzz droids" landed on our ship. When R2 got rid of them we made a dive toward the ground and just barely pulled up before we hit ground , dodged a couple ships flying around and landed on a pad in Coruscant, ending our ride. The ride was only a couple of minutes and I wish we would have gone to more OT planets but overall it was a great experience and is easily the best ride at disneyland if the 54 different events thing is true.

Edit: Forgot to mention a couple things: There are 6 different cars and unfortunately the original ride is not still running as far as I can tell.

The dark rides should be open, I know the dark rides in Fantasyland will be open and if your Grad Night is after june 3rd Star Tours should be open but I dont know because of its new-ness and all. I am working a Grad Night tomorrow but I can find out for you. I work there...

Hi Crazy_dazy! My grad nite is I believe the 9th of June. If you could get back to me I'd absolutely love to know for sure!

It's a SoCal Disneyland event where they take a shitload of graduating seniors and have dance parties all night. Famous trance/dance bands and the like perform, such as 30H!3. There are multiple nights to accomodate schools. The rules are super strict, what with it being LA/OC area. No colored shirts (gang affiliations), no hats, no bags (weapons/drugs) etc. It's like going to Disneyland in the '70s only with shitty music.

AND SHE'S HOT (assuming that avatar is really her).

Ultra-win!

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Waiting for the live cast of the opening to start, they appear to be starting late but that's normal for most webcasts....

PT ships flying about with OT ships?

Death Star above Geonosis?

Podracing!?

They're trying really hard to make the OT universe mesh with the PT universe.

It'll never work, though. It's as jarring as seeing Daleks or Klingons in the cantina scene.

I have a scorched earth attitude to the PT - retcon it. All of it.

Oh, and Vader is surfing U.S.A for a bit.

Won't be riding this thing. Yeuch.

hahaha it's got a pseudo TSA check point: (via: boingboing.net)

The Normalization of Security

http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2011/05/the_normalizati.html

TSA-style security is now so normal that it's part of a Disney ride:

The second room of the queue is now a security check area, similar to a TSA checkpoint. The two G-series droids are still there, G2-9T scanning luggage and G2-4T scanning passengers. For those attraction junkies, you'll remember that the G-series droids are so named because in the original Disneyland Park version of the ride, they were created by removing the "skins" from two of the goose animatronics from the soon-to-close America Sings attraction (Goose = "G" series). While we won't tell you why, you'll enjoy paying a lot of attention to what the scans of the luggage show is inside. When it's your turn to go through the passenger scan (a thermal body scan), you may be verbally accosted by a security droid. Also, keep an eye out in the queue for an earlier version of RX-24 ("Captain Rex") from the original Star Tours; he's labeled "defective" and has some familiar dialogue.

This is the new Star Tours ride at Walt Disney World in Orlando.
