It appears the podrace wasn't dropped after all... just wonderful, complete with CG that looks worse than the original fucking movie!  I don't know how they managed that, the episode 1 video game cutscenes look almost as good as this.

In addition, more info can be found at theDisneyLand News site.

Didja ever think that maybe this is a preview version, something whipped up just for the teaser, and that the final version will be further tweaked and enhanced?

Hell, these exact shots might not even be in the final ride.  Wait until more footage is released instead of complaining out of force of habit.

Well, they did their "filming" a couple months ago.  I figure they could at least whip up a test that looked a bit better by now.

So, I think it looks good for a teaser.  I look forward to Star Tours II in 2011.

Pod racers has to be the dumbest idea ever and the cgi looks worse than what i have seen on ps1 games.

Plus they are going to have boba fett in it and this is modern lucas so it will be shit.

That trailer is a failure if i ever saw one, who wants relive the horrible phantom menace?

I would just as soon pretend i never paid money to see that garbage, a 2 hour movie that is only worth the lightsaber duel.

What are they going to replace the annoying pewee herman droid with jar jar now, lol.

2011? That's a long way off for this to be the final rendered footage.

Bear in mind, we are talking about a ride here, not just a digital movie. The ride will open in 2011, there is a lot more involved in the process of opening this ride than just video sequence.

That little clip is just part of a larger teaser that essentially said the new ride is going to multiple destinations.

The podracing thing is just one of the parts of the new version, some of the rumors have said it offers at least 25 different openings, middles and endings shuffled around to be different on each ride.

Only thing I'm dissapointed in regards to D23 is no word on whether they're finally going to make the Imagination ride at Epcot not suck anymore.

We're talking about an existing ride that's still somewhat popular. (And Disney knows the fuss that ensues if you change a classic too much.) And how much are they really going to spend on a refurb aside from changing out the ride film, and maybe changing some of the audio tracks? They've been promising new destinations since the 90's, and money was allegedly the main stalling point.

If they keep the existing footage as one of the destinations, (and they had better!) stuff that looks straight out of a Playstation game is going to look like crap compared to real models shot on 70mm.

I don't think they'll keep the original destination.  It's doomed to be like the '97 SE (I would say the OOT but there's the GOUT for that).

Ok, kneejerk complaints about image quality and Prequel era content aside, keeping the original destination and adding the new content into the roster makes perfect business sense.

The last Star Tours I was at was the one in MGM Disney Florida back in 2001.  IIRC, there's four shuttles you can get in but right now they all go to the same destination.  Multiple destinations now means that you can choose where you want to go depending which shuttle you get in, effectively just like a real airport.

That means more people will be going through the ride multiple times to get to see all the destinations instead of just coming back for the same one over and over.

I don't think it'll be multiple, I think it'll be a replacement.  That's more why I'm angry.  Although, if they upgraded the original ride to fit the standards of the new technology in this "destination" (ie 3D screens, etc) I'd be one happy camper.  I just really don't think they'll go to the trouble.  These are two companies infamous for creative decisions, Disney and Lucasfilm (although Disney is a bit more subtle about how they change their movies & history).

Yeah, from everything I have heard about this thing, it is a total replacement, not just the filming of and adding in of a few alternate videos.

...Which was the original plan, wasn't it?  Why not do this?

Oh well, I've got a year to ride it again.

about time they updated it! i went on star tours last year and i wasn't as thrilled as before. the motion effects aren't that great, and the video quality is poor and not to mention the animatronics. plus it smelled bad too.

and yea, the video quality was prolly a preview and not the final cut. funny, i imagined something like this and hoped they would do it.

they need to do the millenium falcon:

Episode IV: death star escape

.....LightSpeed

Episode V: Being persued by the empire including the chase both in and out of the asteroid belt and i ends with the falcon docking on the back of the star destroyer bridge.

break off......LightSpeed

Episode VI: battle of endor. involving all the scenes from the movie, (from the falcon's view of course.) plus some extra stuff in between. entering the death star, destroying the power generator, and escaping the death star.

land on endor and head to ewok village store for souviniers.

Not "from the Falcon's view" - tracking/following the Falcon.  Remember, it has to stay in the context of a tour bus that got thrown off course and wanders into the events from the films and accompanies the main characters.  The only "role playing" so to speak is that you as a passenger are still yourself but in the SW universe...you're not stepping into another character's role.

First disney buys Marvel and now they ruin a classic ride by using badly rendered cgi that looks worse than what was in the phantom menace 10 frickin years ago.

i see ur point, but we dont need to have the title be star tours. and the way i was thinking it, ur sitting in the falcons cockpit, and like in star tours, the screen opens to show maybe han and chewie, and then go from there.

i didn't say anything about being in the characters' position. just to see the action from their own point of view is wat i was trying to get at.

like ziz and i said. its early material and is subjected to change. remember this wont be done til 2011.

My thoughts are this: personally, I think it's great that they think Star Tours is worth updating.  I just wish they wouldn't take away the original in the process, though I can understand why.

Hopefully that was a quick pre-render just to show the expo and the ride really looks better.  That's my main concern.

Exactly i am hoping this is just a animatic or early render, because even the cgi was better in 1993's jurassic park. and even now 1999's phantom menace effects are laughably outdated, even the stuff on Revenge of the Sith has already been surpassed.  Every couple of years cgi makes giant leaps and bounds, this footage looks worse than the cutscenes on that podracer game.

the final fantasy movie back in like 2000 something, the characters were CGI, but they looked so freakin' real.

Yuck! It's great the way it is now.

I'll just go see Captain EO instead =p.

Just got a report from a Rebel LEgion member who took on a part for the Hoth sequence and also confirmed Boba Fett

http://www.rebellegion.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19325

I think Disney's definitely been improving since Bob Iger took charge. He has the sense to just let the creative people in Imagineering and animation do their own thing and make stuff good with the help of the Pixar guys.

Bumping. They've also shown some screenshots of Coruscant and confirmed that it'll change everytime you ride, with audiences even having some influence where the ship goes.
