Speilberg's a Wookie!

Silly topic title aside, I'm sure many of you heard that Speilberg always wanted to direct an episode of Star Wars and that Lucas asked for his assitance for Episode III. I'm not too sure what Speilberg did but rumors are he directed a few sequences. My theory is that he directed the Kaasykk battle as it was very U-boatish a la Saving Private Ryan. Plus, when Yoda left in his shuttle, it had an E.T feel to it. Did anyone else get the same impression?

Absolutely not. Spielberg was busy with projects of his own, although he asked for participation in Episode 2 GL declined. He was offered the directing job for episode VI, but since he didn't want to quit the maf... I mean, directors guild and the mpa, he wasn't able to.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering
