Did you read that thread a few weeks ago, some people on here would have no problem with updated special effects in a O,T SE but when things like Greedo firing first, Hayden in Jedi and pointless Darth Vader shuttle scenes etc are added, people draw the line..........

I know you not banned from T.F.n or S.W com I was joking that why I put the smilie there, I dont give a crap what version you like, but dont preach and say somethings horrible because you dont think it goes with your holy Saga

From a certain point of view...

OK, I'll try not to, that is, if I don't find people doing the same to the version I like.

i hate the remastered dvds for that above example alone. what is up with blue hoth? it looks like different films to me now. its not that im against change but the dvds just look strange. i think i could get over any special edition tinkering if the films would just look more natural, meaning a little more grain, more contrast, less weird color and a little more brightness. this would match up with the prequels better, they look more natural than these movies do now and thats saying something

Film grain, I believe he means. Make it look more like a film and less like a cartoon.

Yeah, I know what it is. That's why I was asking why he wanted more grain.

as opposed to none? ill take more over none any day

The only movie I have ever seen that more grain works well for is "The Day After."

In my experience, a little grain makes it feel like a real film. It gives it some character. That's why, as amazing as the new transfer of Wizard of Oz is, if they'd got rid of the grain feel entirely, it'd just be too soft.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that film grain could have saved TPM, even.

i never thought that some day there wouldnt be grain on films anymore, i always thought grain was part of the charm of film. i think it adds more depth. im not against digital photography i just like preserving things the way they were when they were first released. not add anything which they do when they take away things that were origianlly there. still i could lose the grain if they just fixed some of the other things i was talking about . or 'unfix' them

I like some too, but, and it's interesting that this should come up right now, but I just watched my Phantom Menace DVD last night for the first time, and I was amazed at how much gunk there was on the picture. I mean, an exorbitant amount. I think maybe it's just DVD artifacting, and if it is, that's a horrible amount to have! Does anybody else notice this?

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Caravan of Courage and The Battle for Endor are HEAVY on grain. Thankfully, my holiday special copy isn't, as it's the KCCI copy from the one and only airing.

I wanted the ewok films digitally remastered, but, unfortunately, everything was rushed for all of those 2004 Star Wars releases.

Have you seen the original 'Phantom Edit', the one that started it all? Because it is taken from a second generation VHS, the cartoon CGI doesn't look so bad, plus all the crap is cut out - it's actually watchable.

I was listening to one of those audiocasts from the OS a while back, and Rick McCallum was talking about how in the early 90's when George first approached him with his project for the prequels, he told him of how a lot of their long-time fans would be upset becuase the films were not going to adjust their current age and mindset, but were instead going to be made in the exact style as the very films they grew up with, which was going to be jarring for them.

Hmmm....

(By the way, today is Nov 17, the 27th anniversary of the holiday special.)

Preaching again Adam

I cant speak for everyone on here but I have given the fucking films every chance, and is nothing to do with resisting change, nostagia or any other reason you or Lucas can come up with

The quality is not there for me in Menace particually period.....

Agreed, Bungle.

I saw TPM 13 times in the theatre. Don't laugh.

It was really cool the first 2 times. After that...well. It doesn't hold up to repeat viewings.

Oh, and the other 11 times I went to see it? It was like walking in on your parents jamming - you want to burn your eyes after with an acetelyne torch, but you cant. look. away.

Agreed Bungle.
Cassidy, why not just stop after 3 viewings?

i also like what someone else said about the prequels having no breathers between scenes. you know scenes where the audience can catch thier breath. the films go from one scene to the next without pausing, i noticed that but didnt know exactly what it was when i first saw tpm. thats really been more my criticism for these films than anything else. theyre tiring
