Nooooo! This is the perfect thread for this! Even the name of the thread is perfect! "Something you all might enjoy" technically none of this is off topic, because anyone might enjoy any of this stuff.

Eh? See! Man, Axia really did pic a perfect topic title. "Hmm, 'Something you all might enjoy' I'll check that one out." and BAM! They are hit with some of the most amazing discussion to go on in this place in a very long time.

I've always been a fan of talking about whatever in whatever thread. The "stay on topic" police annoy the hell out of me. I honestly think that most of the time they're trying to look all responsible so they can become a moderator someday. Not saying that's the case with you, Gaffer.

There's "stay on topic" and "we already have a thread about this."

I say who cares.

No worries, I am sure I can more than handle whatever capos are working for you.

Or trying to look all responsible so they can become Don Alpha Male someday. Look here, both you and I disagree with Gaffer on his strict fascist "stay on topic" BS. Kind of shows he doesn't have all that many people agreeing with him. His social evidence of being alpha male looks pretty *caugh* weak! *caugh*. On the other hand, you both just agreed with my sentiments that we ought not to leave this fine thread. I feel my alpha maleness growing...

No, I agree, and I thank you for not lumping me into the "aspiring mod" bunch.  I only made an exception this time because the original poster complained about it, and because the debate was just between the two of us, and nobody else seemed to give a damn about it.  So it just seemed pretty selfish to me.

Yeah, it was pretty selfish. What? Axia complained? I must have missed that post. Now I feel bad.

Well, maybe "complain" is too strong a word, but it was obvious he preferred to talk about his own stuff in his thread.

Maybe in the kind gently world you are from Gaffer, that comes off as a complaint. But in the rough cut-throat world I am from, that sort of thing is an acceptance of fate.

Since you are all into mafia stuff, imagine a man with his feet in cement boots. He is about to be pushed off the dock. He already knows he is dead, he has accepted his fate, but he still thinks to himself, "once they toss me off the egde, maybe I can somehow climb back up." He knows it isn't going to happen, he knows he is already as good as dead. But just thinking that there might still be a possibility that he can save himself, makes it easier for him to accept his death.

But actually, Axia can have this thread back if he wants. People probably won't know what it is about now though...

Now I am starting to feel kind of badly...

No! That was getting to be a really amusing conversation. We just need more participants to throw in their two cents. At least DF throws around amusing and off the wall discussion topics, rather than going around pissing down the place with negativity.

I'd say what DarkFather throws around is definitely negativity. Very negative indeed. Whereas, if you're trying to make a comment on me, criticism isn't a negative and nor is thinking differently from the majority. And I've been amazed at the negtivity with which my attempts to introduce interesting discussion have been received.

No, what Dark Father throws around is mostly just humorous musings.

In your case it isn't just simple criticism, and I know you are in the majority around here, as I'd actually usually tend to agree with your negative comments for the most part regarding the PT, EU, and the general states of SW fandom. But your brand of negativity is just so heavy handed and out there and repetitive, it even brings me down. I have generally been one of the one accused of being too harsh and negative toward the PT.

I mean just check out post #10 of this thread, it was all light hearted and happy in here, and studdenly your post comes along.

At any rate, you obviously seem to have some issues with DF. And that is great. I support you in your issue taking, not wanting to sound like I am trying to play mod here, but why not try to keep the little thing between you two confined to whatever thread it started in. The last thing the rest of us want to see is this popping up in every thread the both of you post in.

Yeah VaderisnotHayden pretty much rivals even my hatred of the prequels and surpasses it with flying colors. Which does not seem quite possible, lol.

I find myself mostly entertained by his posts and find myself laughing when he goes into how inept the mustafar duel was.  Or he basically talks about Lucas plain ineptness since star wars ended in 1983 and got rebooted in 1997 as special crap editions.

No Sky. I am afraid he totally dethroned you and brought the game to a whole new level. You and your hatred are just peanuts in comparison to the Dark Lord Vaderisnohayden.

No, what Dark Father throws around is insulting people and talking down to them and acting like he thinks he knows better than anybody else. Very much negative.

But your brand of negativity is just so heavy handed and out there and repetitive, it even brings me down.

In other words, there's something wrong with putting any feeling into an opinion? You're calling negative something that isn't in any way negative. Enthusiastic maybe, heartfelt maybe, vigorous, not negative. In fact, I'd say it's your reading of it that's negative.

And I've been amazed at how negatively my attempts to introduce interesting discussion and fun have been received. It's not me that's negative.

DarkFather was treating Axia like shit in a way that reminded me of how he treated me. I couldn't ignore that. And he was promoting a really ugly philosophy. Maybe you found that fun, but to me it looked revolting. I don't consider what DarkFather was saying to be "light hearted and happy". It was insulting talking down to somebody plus promoting a wolf pack/chase after popularity attitude. As it is, I usually ignore DarkFather, but this time it was very hard to ignore. It's ludicrous to suggest I get into trouble with DarkFather on every thread we post on. I hadn't talked to or about DarkFather for a good while before this. But somebody had to point out that how he was treating Axia was wrong. It certainly wasn't going to be you. You were too busy finding it fun that somebody was being treated like shit. And I didn't mean what I just said to come off so aggressive, but you seem to be failing to see that it wasn't just fun and games and could actually bother somebody, and I find that disturbing.

Very often I'm in the minority in my views and some people seem to find it offensive that I stand by my opnions when I'm in the minority.

lol, Axia.  You can thank Vaderisnothayden, who's views not all of us agree on per say.  And whether we do or not, he's definitely the most outspoken.  Just don't lump us all together... I for one enjoy the action figure things that I've seen; just haven't commented.

On my end though, I apologize for contributing to the Dragonball discussion.

I like your non prequel classic card backs and expanded universe ones quite a lot actually.  But i noticed you never made one for Luke as a Jedi in Return of the Jedi in the so called "vaderish" tunic.

My favorite figure was always that Luke figure with the green lightsaber and cloak, but the early version had a blue lightsaber.  I guess that would be the revenge of the jedi version.

I never bought any prequel figures though i almost bought the maul master replicas FX swords.  Maul is one of the few things i like about the prequels including Padme.  Hayden had the look well enough he just could not act, or perhaps acting like a child and being a young bratty teenager was George's design, i don't know.

The Look of Episode II and III i have very liitle problem with.  The plot and scripts and dialogue leave a lot to be desired, but a few rewrites and another screenwriter could have salvaged things.

Anakin being a sullen and creapy asshole really does not match the Good Anakin Obi Wan told us about in the originals.  Perhaps now we are to infer obi wan is a liar of the first magnitude right up there with Palpatine.

If you read the secret history of star wars you find the Phantom Menace had quite a few drafts whereas in II and III its started in the art department and pre viz and Lucas script came very late, and there were much less work and attention paid to the script.  Lucas got all the raw footage he needed and coverage and decided to craft the story during the editing.

I see the prequels as a version of the backstory and more of an EU add on than anything and a mediocre to decent one at that.  That does not mean i accept them as the canon beginnings of the ot that should not have been left aside for 20 years.  The man got rusty and forgot the oot.

To me the real backstory has yet to be revealed.  If and that is a big if Lucas ever allows the old story plots to be published as notes or scripts and outlines kind of like the annotated screenplays.  A book that shows the genesis of the prequels from the seventies concept up to what we ultimetely got.

If we take Kurtz on his word Episodes 1-3, and VI VII VIII and IX would have been very different.  Leia not the sister, Emporer not seen til much much later.   Leia becomes a queen of her people and ends up with neither luke or han.  Luke Becomes the new Kenobi type character who passes the torch down to the next generation of jedi in episodes 10, 11 and 12.

Of course Empire Strikes Back altered the original I-II and III because Vader was the killer of Lukes father and not his father and the first 3 would have dealt with Lukes Father, Vader and Obi Wan Kenobi and the old republic and the clone wars as well as revealed the mandalores the people of fett.

Other people would say we ended up with a more closed universe because of the changes in empire strikes back and return of the jedi.  I actually think Having Vader as the Father and Leia as the sister makes things more interesting.  It gives star wars mythic depth like the old greek stories.  where before the episodes 1-12 arc was just random sci fi adventure tales like burroughs mars or flash gordon.

Oh yeah and if padme lived until the years between III and IV Return of the Jedi would not have to be ruined but that is a story for another time.

Having Luke trained to kill the killer of his father makes the story very cut and dry.  All Luke has to do is kill vader and avenge his father, rather than Vader is his father and therefore Luke has to examine the darkness within himself.

Those cards are very cool. I'll never understand why they don't just stick with that design in the current era, they've never come up with anything nearly as striking. (I wonder if people in the future will have nostalgia for a sea of red/green/white etc.) Are they done on a sticker that is then attached or can you actually print stuff on cardstock these days?

Actually, I think they have gone back to a design like that.

No you can't thank me. I didn't bash the prequels here. If you're going to blame me for something at least blame me for something I actually did. What is it now, if anything happens point the finger at Vaderisnothayden? If you want to thank someone, thank DarkFather for the way he talked to Axia, which started all this.

Ha!  See, C3PX?!  A complaint!  You'd be hard pressed to call that anything but a complaint!

Although... I'm not sure how any of this was a prequel hating thread.  It got derailed into mafioso alpha male and Dragon Ball (both of which were a good deal my fault), but I don't recall any prequel bashing happening.

I think i'm the one who started it by referring to a post on vaderisnothayden being too negative.  Guilty as charged, lol.

I brought up the prequel bashing by saying it was awesome to find someone who hated them more than i did, since i thought that was impossible.

Exactly! It was most definitely a complaint, but it wasn't a complaint about us! You must have missed a couple of posts Don Gaff (right there on top of things, just like any good Don ought to be). It was a complaint about vaderisnohayden's prequel bashing.

EDIT: Oops, just to set the record stright, I went back and discovered that I was the one who inadvertantly intoduced the PT hate into this thread, not vaderisnohayden. I mentioned vinh's negativity, which in turn brought sky into the mix to defend him and rip the PT a couple of times in the process. Sorry about that.

You know, 3PX, you've really been giving me the business over the past 24 hours!  Might want to look into that... =P
