Simple. The Clone Wars movie was unecessary and redundant
I finally watched it the other day… would have benefited from having the running-time of an episode from Tartakovsky’s show… not enough plot to go round… but anyhoo…
I seem to recall Luca$h trying to sell this as really advanced animation in the pre-release hype… but it looked pretty ordinary to my eyes… was I missing something?.. it didn’t look anything like as good as the kind of stuff other studios are putting out… didn’t Luca$h have something to do with Pixar once?.. why couldn’t they have done it?.. they might have been able to fix up a halfway decent story and some engaging characters while they were at it…
By the way… one for the UK members… why did Jabba and all his relations suddenly look like variations of Cosgrove Hall’s Mr Toad?!

Granted... but where was the eye-popping animation we were supposed to be getting?... Luca$h seemed to think he was going to put all other animated features in the shade with this one... mind you, he seemed to think the PT was going to do that with live-action features... the poor, deluded man...
I think he meant advanced for being a weekly television series as was the original intent. It's still a damn sight better than the direct to video stuff that litters the DVD aisles here. You haven't seen bad CGI until you've watched some of those things!
Lucas sold off Pixar way back in the 80's. And they have their own projects now. Why does everything have to look like Pixar anyway? Lucas wanted SuperMarionation with Lightsabers. It's not going to be everyone's cup of tea, but at least they tried something different.
Where were you in '77?
Seriously the whole The Clone Wars movie/show project was unnecessary, as is the upcoming live-action action series. I wish Lucas would leave Star Wars bloody well alone and go off and do his airmen film and all those other non-Star Wars films he was supposed to do. I mean, hasn't he done enough damage already?
He'll never let go of SW; I guess it is grafted onto his body now, and will keep going many decades and decades...

My God, that's a horrible image...
I take your point, SilverWook... and I agree that it would be a sad thing if all amimation looked like Pixar's... but I've not seen any CG-animation films that have topped Pixar's for eye-popdom (I acknowledge that that may be due to my not seeing the other good stuff out there) or for storytelling... I don't think the animation in Clone Wars was that good... I didn't think much of the character design either but that's not specifically what I'm getting at here... it's the actual animation... considering how far the form has come in the last 10 years or so, I thought Clone Wars was pretty poor...
I'd admire him more if he actually did supermarionation with lightsabres... now that would be worth seeing!...
The Clone Wars "movie" had amazing animation for television. As a big screen spectacular, it wasn't exactly up to par with the biggies (Pixar, Disney) but I think technically it was superior to the lower CGI movies (Happily Never After, Veggie Tales).

No thank you. Thunderbirds seriously creeps me out.
I guess that's fair enough... looks like the animation wasn't necessarily the problem... it was the decision to put it on the big screen...
And the fact that the first few episodes blow chunks. Surprisingly, the rest of the series is turning out a lot better. Is it good? Depends on your opinion, but I like it; least it's better than the "movie".
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
Yeah, I haven't seen any of the series yet... much like the "movie", I'm not falling over myself to watch it, y'know?
I think if you're a big OT fan like myself, auraloffalwaffle, you'll enjoy it. I think this animated series is more along the lines of what the prequels needed to have been. The animation is unique yet good, the voice actors better than any of the acting in the PT, and the stories are pretty engaging. I definitely recommend it.

The prequels needed to be a lot better than that. If anything the animated show is reminiscent of The Phantom Menace.

I don't find it all reminiscent of the original trilogy.
Really.

i love the action, comedy and adventures. the clone soilders match the the novelizations perfectly. plus there's no corny love story between anakin and padme.

So what. Things that look similar are just cosmetic. That's not real similarity. The show is not remotely reminiscent of the OT in any real way.

Why the clone soldiers should match the novels I don't know.
In what ways is there nothing really reminiscent of the OT? Even though I just showed you that pic. At least elaborate, or it's going to obvious to everyone you're just talking to be talking, disagreeing to be disagreeing.

Oh there you are being offensive again. Why do you have to keep doing that? Why you keep getting aggressive and/or personal? Why can't you just accept somebody disagrees with you without having to diss them?
The feel and mentality of the show has very little in common with that of the OT. People go on about how it's like the OT because of OT references (but anything can have OT references -doesn't make it like the OT) or because it's more fun and straight forward than the prequels -but more fun and straight forward doesn't necessarily make it that much like OT. Anyway I find it reminiscent of TPM in particular, not the OT. It approaches Star wars in prequel mindset even if it's more fun-oriented than the last two prequels. And it's very much built on all the bullshit the prequels built up, complete with the Jedi being a bunch of pretentious wankers and all that. The OT was a very specific thing and this prequel-lite show is very different from what the OT was. The OT had a thousand times more emotional depth and human connection and strength of imagination and it didn't have the bullshitty mentality and pretention. This is so NOT like the OT. I wish people would stop saying it's like the OT, because it's like they're forgetting what the OT was really like or getting into wishful thinking.
And seriously, seeing the inside of a star destoyer doesn't make something like the OT. Like I said, it's just cosmetic. I don't see how somebody could really think that makes this show like the OT.
I remember the episode with the betrayal of a Rodian leader, that was very reminiscent of Lando's character in ESB. There are tons of little lines, and situations, that ring a bell of the OT in that show (okay that does not make it as good as the OT, but it's fun enough to watch the show IMO). Even the droid army and their "Rodger Rodger" sounds silly but in a way that you feel that the writers know it's silly, and want to play with it (and even laugh AT it). I feel like it's really a try to reunite the "prequels kids" (don't forget it's a kids show) and their "OT parents.
That said I did not see the "movie" yet. I was aware that it was just a pilot for the TV series and so not really made for the big screen.

I'm not being the least bit offensive.
You said the series had nothing in common with the OT after I showed you the picture that proved it very plainly does. Whether it's cosmetic or not is completely immaterial. It still functions to render your statement false, so stop repeating it.

I never said it had nothing in common with the OT. I said it was not reminiscent of the OT. There's a difference. Your picture did not prove it was reminsicent of the OT and your statements about me were definitely offensive.
