On Greivous’s voice, I love the new voice acting but I believe it sounds to human to fit the design, so maybe a slight robotic filter and some other kinda badass filter should be applied to be more fitting and cooler sounding. Maybe play around with it a little. Love it so far, great stuff!

Thanks! I didn’t see your reply earlier but yes I am going to add a pretty cool filter to his voice as well as clean up the background noise.

Also would you be able to edit Qui Gon into Anakin’s father to remove the virgin birth?

I’m removing th e virgin birth but no, I’m not able to do that unless there’s some material out there that would allow me to. I would have to explain that they’ve both met before and I just don’t see how that’s doable. Not to mention it kinda sounds weird 😕

…and it’s bad enough that poor Shmi was left in the clutches of Watto by Anakin all those years as he got older, without Qui-gon not having been able to use any of the Jedi’s resources to free her up for his 'son’s sake either!

(on the other hand, it might have been a bit awkward for Qui-gon to explain to Yoda and Mace why she was hanging around the temple so much, if he’d done so…) 😉

It’s true and I won’t even mention or revisit her in part two either 😕

It’s been a while since an update, I got a new job and I’m also back in school so I have much less time on my hands. Shawn Bu, the director of the Darth Maul: Apprentice fan film has given me permission to use his footage so that is definitely a go!

I will be uploading a very experimental clip soon involving Anakin’s dream sequences during AOTC, hopefully you’ll like it!

Take all the time you require, it’ll be interesting how the AOTC part of the storyline will handled, no fanedit that I can think of at the top of my head has satisfied me so I wish you good luck.

So what do you plan on doing with Dooku in The Battle Begins?

So where are the links to download these versions of the films?

They don’t exist. This is still in development.

I like a lot of your ideas, particularly opening Ep1 with the escape from Naboo. If I can throw my two cents out there, I’ve got to say that the opening crawl you’re working with is a little lackluster in comparison to the really interesting things you’re planning on doing in the film proper. I think it has something to do with the phrase “time of foreboding” (I’m paraphrasing, but iirc, that’s what you had written). It’s a bit heavy handed. Like foreboding generally is something you get a sense of when you’re in a particular situation, not something that lasts long enough to call a “time.” Or even if it does last that long (say the decade in Germany prior to the rise of Hitler), putting it in that term, a time of foreboding, still feels stilted. And I don’t feel a sense of urgency from reading the rest of the crawl, either. I’m no poet, and you may not care too much for this, but I just looked back at the OT opening crawls and tried to write something that would set up your characters as they are escaping Naboo in a similar style.

After a thousand generations of peace in the galaxy, the separatist Trade Federation has thrown the might of their dreadful droid army behind an invasion of the peaceful planet Naboo.

During the turmoil, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi managed to rescue Queen Amidala, leader of the Naboo, from the clutches of the certain doom.

Pursued by the separatists, Queen Amidala races to Coruscant to plead for the support of the Galactic Republic. Unbeknownst to all, there are more sinister forces at play…

It’s essentially a mad lib plug and play of A New Hope’s crawl. But one thing that always bugged me about the PT crawls was the lack of pulpy suspense language. They’re all a bit sterile, except for Ep3’s “War!” opening. I kinda think something like this fixes that. Things like “dreadful droid army” sounds a bit kitsch, but so do all the OT crawls.

Anyway, use it, don’t use it, whatevs. I think your project looks hella promising.

I’ve been meaning to post updates more frequently, I don’t want to confirm any release dates because I don’t want to disappoint anyone by postponing it. I can assure you, however that it is coming and I haven’t hit any major obstacles for quite some time now, I just need to buckle down when I can and do it.

OH MY GOD IT’S BEEN MONTHS

Sorry guys, I’m a busy dude lately but in favour of the edit, I got a really bad throat infection, I can barely speak, hear, or smell, but that means I get time off work and school to get chugging away on my hobbies. Lightworks recently made a solid new update that makes my editing process much easier and I’m super happy about that. I plan on soon releasing a montage of concept clips that demonstrate some outlandish ideas I have for this edit so stay tuned for that. The first rough cut is 100% finished, now I’m fine tuning audio, doing VFX, and I’ve just set up my recording equipment for the audio dubbing. I know this is taking a super long time but I don’t want to rush this thing out, stay tuned people! And thanks for all of the support!

I would really prefer you not use the Maul fan film footage. It looks really out of place (particularly with the next scene being about stealth,) and I don’t think it makes sense visually - it looks like he’s training on his ship in mid flight, but the ship couldn’t be that big because its scale is established when he lands. It’s also unclear what he’s pushing buttons on the display for - is it involved with tracking the Jedi, or this weird pseudo-flashback training scene?

Maul is really cool (relatively) when he’s introduced in the original film because he’s (relatively) so mysterious, so showing him flipping all over the place with a fully lit lightsaber blocking dozens of shots in front of a glowing blue display seems like way too much, too early, and doesn’t really add to his character. The flipping and lightsaber skills are already established in the original film. The problem with his characterization was never that there aren’t enough scenes of him using a lightsaber, it’s that those are almost his only scenes. Not to mention the actor has a different head and facial structure from Ray Park, though that’s a minor point.

With that said I’m really excited about this edit and I think it’s more ambitious than most. The few times I’ve tried my hand at cutting the prequels, I usually ended up at the same structure you have: two films, mostly killing AOTC because it sucks, and splicing its good parts into the other two. I love your ideas and your dedication.

Yes I understand where you’re coming from, however, those scenes I previewed have evolved and been heavily altered along with being color corrected and having grain added in to match up with the footage. The fan film has been completely butchered, rearranged, and rescored, all for the purpose of making it less ill-fitting.

Thanks man! And yes, even the parts of AOTC that survived are completely reworked and will be barely recognizable.
