Idea: Sifo Dyas removal from AOTC?

Has anyone sussed out a way to effectively eliminate any reference to him in AotC and still maintain a logical plot?

MagnoliaFan devised a way to do it, which he shared w/Trooperman. They're keeping this a secret to have some element of surprise about their edits, which I agree with. However, you being a fellow fan editor may be able to get let in on it.

I believe MagFan's Ep II already omits Sifo Dyas. Wait, no, that was Tyranus, wasn't it.

Why? What is so "illogical" with the Sifo Dyas plot?

That's what I'm wondering. If anything, it adds to the plot.

It has no point in the plot. They mention Sifo Dyas, then they just kinda forget about him later in the movie.

Lucas decided not to include it in ROTS, in order to focus more on Anakin's story, and had it explained in Labyrinth of Evil. Besides, it was best, IMHO, to leave it the mystery it is in the films. You know someone named Sifoo-Dias ordered the clones, but you know little about his him. So, you are left guessing if it was really Sifo-Dias, whether Dooku/Palpatine forced Sifo-Dias to do it before they killed him, etc.

But it, like the poop scenes in TPM, was just a superfluous angle that just didn't need to be there.

read the book to understand the movie. Whoever sifo dyas was and why he did what he did probably wasn't really planned out too well as many things in the pt aren't. moving on....

And so what? What are you expecting when you go watch a movie? To know everything on every details? Not me.
I like when a movie has a part of mystery. And when you look closer about all the Star Wars stuff, you'll see that we all know names of some characters or vehicles, and those names have never been mentioned in the movies. I like that. Not you?

...and I must say that I love the "Sifo Dyas" name. It sounds very cool to me...

"So, you are left guessing if it was really Sifo-Dias, whether Dooku/Palpatine forced Sifo-Dias to do it before they killed him, etc."

If the book has to be read to understand the movie, then Lucas failed. Lucas has called himself a "visual storyteller", so it's preposterous to think that he left this little nugget in for the fans who read.

"Lucas decided not to include it in ROTS, in order to focus more on Anakin's story"

Rather than being part of this carefully constructed plot to get SW fans to read EU, as you appear to imply, what it really is is something that could have been made into an important plot point, but was utlimately dropped like a fart in the wind so that we could get a few more minutes footage of a burning ship crashing into Coruscant.

You have apparently been made to be left guessing, but I, like Lucas, have dropped it as unimportant. And as for the EU explanation: a Jedi Master really initiated the order, without the Council's or Senate's knowledge, yet giving his true identity to the Kaminoans, and somehow coming up with the tremendous amount of funding to start the order, all in the hopes that the Republic would readily accept an unsanctioned army when they are not at war?

Puhleeeeeeeeez! I like the EU, but this is just flat-out ridiculous.

Then again, that does sound like a contrived scenario that Lucas would come up with......

2001 did it. I supopse Kubrick failed? And with 2001, you are left guessing a whole hell of a lot of things that you decide on your own unless you read the book which flat out tells you what happens.

I consider myself a pretty avid Star Wars fan (only EU that exists is Shadows of the Empire) and even I don't have a bloody clue what the whole deal was with the Clones.

Could have been explained better, should have been explained better. Lucas dropped the ball. Maybe he will fix it.

LOL...now you clump these two films together to make your point? Nice try.

I'm sorry you didn't get 2001, but don't blame that failing on Kubrick.

MY OPINION WAS THAT IT WAS COUNT DOOKU WHO WOULD HAVE THE FUNDING TO INITIATE THE CREATION OF THE CLONES. HE WOULD'VE HAD ACCESS TO THE LIBRARY FILES/STAR CHARTS TO ERASE ALL MENTION OF KAMINO. TO ME THIS MAKES THE MOST SENSE, AND I LIKE MANY OF MY FRIENDS CAME UP WITH THAT OPINION JUST BY WATCHING THE MOVIE. YES, WE COULD BE WRONG, BUT THAT'S WHAT MAKES A GOOD MYSTERY. WHILE WE'RE ON THE POINT OF MYSTERIES WHAT THE HELL WAS AURRA SING DOING AT THE BOONTA EVE RACE ??? WE ONLY KNEW BOBA FETT WAS A BOUNTY HUNTER UNTIL THE PT.

No one truly "gets" 2001, since in a film, people come away with their own ideas. Everyone merely "gets" their own interpretation. Hell, even Clarke's book is an interpretation, except it is directly from the creator of the story and it lays out everything out for ya'. And, as you should have noticed, I was making a comparison. What the fuck is wrong with that? I praise Kubrick for making nearly every element of 2001 ambiguous. That is the sign of a master filmmaker. I posed my libne about Kubrick as a question to you, of how you feel about him, not as a statement of my own personal feelings. What on earth gave you the idea that I have anything against Kubrick? I think you were a little too quick to jump to conclusions there, buddy.

Oh. Just cause of that, you don't understand the movie?!? It's really hard to believe, especially from the one who tells he has understood 2001...
I'm sorry, but I think that plot is just a contextual detail...
If you WANT to know more about this detail, you can read a book about it. But if you DON'T WANT to know more about it, you just watch rest of the movie, it really don't disturb the comprehension of the film... and it's far less complicated than 2001!

its a lame redherring which utlilizes a character we've never seen or heard of before, and is so vague that there isn't even agreement within Lucas' own people whether it was Dooku or sidious who ordered the clones.

they should of used quigon's name, because he;s a character the audience knows, so when Obi-wan says "he was killed before that" he would be talking about an event we actually saw.

Or even darthmaul, since the jedi never learned his name. He ordered the clones, but was killed before jango was hired, so tyrannus handled that.

Lucas decided not to include it in ROTS, in order to focus more on Anakin's story, and had it explained in Labyrinth of Evil. Besides, it was best, IMHO, to leave it the mystery it is in the films. the LOA explanation is lame and doesn;'t make a lick of sense under scrutiny. It presupposes that sifodyas with good intentions and no cohersing ordered the clones, to be used for good. so what was sidious' grand plan then? if this random event had not happened how would he have formed the empire and wiped out the jedi? the entire galactic war erupts because of a random jedi we never saw who died before TPM? thats lame

and contrary to what was the plan up until LOA was published.

there's a big difference between mysterious and vague. Complex and complicated.

we aren't talking about the name of a background droid in mos eisley, this is the central plot point of AotC and in many ways one of the most pivotal moments in the PT

2001 did it. I supopse Kubrick failed? And with 2001, you are left guessing a whole hell of a lot of things that you decide on your own unless you read the book which flat out tells you what happens.

comparing 2001 to SW is like comparing yellow submarine to indiana jones. They're completely differnet movies told in a completely different style.

Lucas often lauds that SW is silent movies that can be told with visuals and music, this is never less true then with AotC. that movie is all talk and doesnt make any sense without the dialogue (and not even wtih the dialogue for that matter)

ESB on the other hand only really requires the one line "I am your father"

MY OPINION WAS THAT IT WAS COUNT DOOKU WHO WOULD HAVE THE FUNDING TO INITIATE THE CREATION OF THE CLONES. HE WOULD'VE HAD ACCESS TO THE LIBRARY FILES/STAR CHARTS TO ERASE ALL MENTION OF KAMINO. that makes sense, however according to LOE, the clones were already ordered before Dooku ever became involved with the sith.

WHILE WE'RE ON THE POINT OF MYSTERIES WHAT THE HELL WAS AURRA SING DOING AT THE BOONTA EVE RACE ??? WE ONLY KNEW BOBA FETT WAS A BOUNTY HUNTER UNTIL THE PT.

no we saw lots of bounty hunters in esb and rotj. not to mention bountyhunters are a real world concept. further more there is nothing in tpm specifying she is a bountyhunter. she's just one of many weird looking extras in the film.

You really, really need to work on your reading comprehension. Your comparison was based on two completely different films. 2001 was supposed to be ambiguous - the aliens are completely unlike us, with motivations that may have little or no semblance to human motivations, whereas SW is a fantasy drama, with human emotions and character interactions that could take place in this galaxy, current day. The fact that it shares so many scenes and scenarios with "Hidden Fortress" isn't a coincidence.

Not to mention the fact that I've never heard Kurbrick make the same claim as Lucas, so again, your comparison is sorely lacking.

"I think you were a little too quick to jump to conclusions there, buddy."

Says the guys who asked me if Kubrick failed. It's a poor question, because how you framed your question is faulty. Whatever "fault" you think I committed is but a fraction of yours.

"Dooku ordered the clones....as Syfo Dyas....Listen the the SIth commentary...Lucas says so himself!!"

The novelization says otherwise.

"Oh. Just cause of that, you don't understand the movie?!? It's really hard to believe, especially from the one who tells he has understood 2001..."

Talk about poor conclusions. Point out to me where I said I didn't understand the film. It is Adam who said the novelization helped him understand the film, so your mischaracterization applies to him, not I. As I clearly stated, "I, like Lucas, have dropped it as unimportant." Perhaps your monitor is set at too high a resolution to read that?

"its a lame redherring which utlilizes a character we've never seen or heard of before, and is so vague that there isn't even agreement within Lucas' own people whether it was Dooku or sidious who ordered the clones."

Thank you.

But she was also supposed to be used in AOTC, hence the cameo. More dropped concepts.

No. Zam Wessel was completely new for AOTC. He needed her for the "Looks are not what they seem" concept.
