Should there be an ULTIMATE EDITION! — Page 2

I myself don't necessarily approve of further changing the OT ridiculously....

although I do love reading funny PT-fan change ideas! Please PM for some really ridiculous
lists! I want to read those!

and... the only way I would be ok with those SE changes (and newer editions) is if I had a good quality ANAMORPHIC Star Wars OOT DVD (or HD Blue ray)... then I'd be more than happy to see what kind of useless change they did this time. Come on, guys! It would be fun to see some more changes to a certain extent! As long as you had your good ol' OOT...

if that was even possible...

I think it is better to replace Sebastian Shaw with Hayden Christensen completely in both scenes than to have them both playing Anakin in different scenes. The point is to have consistency. Luke knows only Shaw's Anakin. Someone who sees only ROTJ knows only of Shaw's Anakin. Shaw's scenes were not bad. If it aint broke, then don't fix it.

Same thing with Biggs in ANH. Include both Toshi Station and Biggs at Yavin, or none of those scenes. No more "Who the hell is that guy?"-moments, please!

Even though I prefer the O-OT, there are many improvements in the SE and 2004 editions that I don't mind, such as digital compositing, removed matte lines, flipped rank badges etc.
However, there are still many goofs left in the movie that I would not mind if they were fixed: Stormtroopers whose armor is falling apart, Vader's chest box being flipped in one shot.
Han Solo is also drawing a different blaster when he shoots Greedo than the one is wearing during the rest of the movie.
But if you are going to make a change, don't make it stand out!

If they do ever get around to preserving the original versions properly, I'd be happy to give Lucas the ol' thumbs up on further revisions.

Now, these changes I'm not sold on though.

Je, how could you say such awful, blasflamous things?
With all these changes, on top of the ones already made, it would be easier to just remake the movies. That would make CGI-loving, shallow people happy. The lightsaber fight in IV is NOT lame. It's fine as is. And Ewan McGregor is a better Obi-Wan than Alec Guiness? Yeah right.

And CGI DOES NOT MAKE A MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yoda looked so much more believable and real as a puppet than in CGI. Palpatine's face in VI was much more evil than the CGI mask in III. The OOT is great because we know its all real. Yoda, the spaceships, the creatures. They were all real, even if they were minuratures, and they looked it too, adding a layer of realism and depth into the OOT. THe prequel trilogy sucked because it did not have the heart of the OT. I didn't feel real at all because of all the damned CGI. If it were my choice, filmmakers would stop putting so much CGI into films, and stick with minuratures and models.

You're entitled to your opinion of course, but just think about the fact that if all these changes were made, they would not be the films that so many people poured thier hearts into.

I wouldn't be opposed to a new Special Edition. We'd get more material for Special Fan-Editions, but it would also mean Lucas may need to clean up the original source again (and deleted scenes) to have a pristine canvas to work off, one easily transferred to a Blu-ray Disc set.

2. LIGHTSABERS! what went wrong with that. Man pick a color please, are they red or pink, green or blue. In I,II and III the lightsabers look perfect and have the right color. That really needs to change in the trilogy.
Actually, the lightsabers in Episodes II and III are terrible, almost the worst in the entire franchise. So if lightsabers should be fixed they should be fixed in those two first, THEN the OT.

More likely to be on Blu-ray Disc, unless the HD format war really swings in HD-DVD's favour over the next year.

Everything is better on a laserdisc. Whatever happened to the laserdisc? Laserdisc!

I would rather have Lucas remake the original trilogy then have him continue to destroy the old one. I have nothing against these ideas if George goes the remake route and gives us the ability to watch the originals.

I remember many years ago, I think it was 1993, when I first read the rumor of the special editions in a sci-fi magazine, how I thought a cgi face-lift would be great. Fix up some of the special effects scenes and have it all be visually seemless. Despite that enthusiasm though, I would have never dared to think that anyone would have sought to destroy the original versions of the films and completely replace them with the altered versions. I knew many people, including myself, would always want the originals available for watching.

When I read on the 1995 VHS box that George regarded that release as the "final video release" I wasn't even phased. It sounded so ridiculous to assume he actually meant that. I just assumed he meant final as in a long time, like how Disney waits years inbetween re-releasing their classics on home video. Little did I know....

Also, why did George Lucas never fix the scene where Luke powers down his lightsaber in ANH after training against the remote?! That was one of the scenes I wanted fixed because I notice the jerky stop-frame effect every time. Some CGI could have fixed that in a heartbeat. instead, I get a stupid shock wave around explosions and a fucking useless scene depicting Darth Vader landing on his super star destoryer and destroying all of the emotional pacing at the climax of Empire. All I wanted were cleaned up special effects. Not this shit of his.

There may as well be an ultimate edition. There're already around 5 billion versions out there, official and non-official.
How can people be expected to keep up with ever changing films? And when they are expectedly changed, (as Star Wars movies have come to be known in the past decade) how can one say they like the movies themselves? They are changed too often. The new version ISN'T the old version. People like something, it's changed, then the newer version is liked, forget the older one.
Let's have the Ultimate Gradiose Incredible 3-D Expanded Penultimate No Holds Barred Bodacious Radical Awesome Blow Your Mind Bootylicious Paradigm Shift Rewire Your Senses Squeeze You Out of Your Mother's Womb Like Totally Again edition.
Star Wars, O Star Wars, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Around 5 billion or so.

Oh, and Je, I would like to say welcome too. I don't mean any of that persoanlly. I get tired of hearing about the movies being marred is all. GL did the marring himself. Not the fans.

First of all the trilogy dvd quality sucks. The movies had so many errors its heart breaking. Some I came with a few ideas.

1. They should use obi from I,II and III in the trilogy. This way they can change alot of things that really need to be changed. If they use him they could show that he recognizes r2 & 3po but doen't say it. The lightsaber fight between vader & obi in IV ANH sucks! They can redo it with him to make it a little better but not to stunty and sword twisting like I,II and III. So that means vader would have to change too. Which would be good because vaders helmet looks like crap in IV. They can place a better looking vader in IV (not changing the scenes just vader). Also in VI ROTJ obi could tell luke that he promise to train anakin (promised Qui Gon in I).

2. LIGHTSABERS! what went wrong with that. Man pick a color please, are they red or pink, green or blue. In I,II and III the lightsabers look perfect and have the right color. That really needs to change in the trilogy. When the lightsabers touch you should see that bright light and here that sound more clearer. Where is the orange burn mark when the saber slices something (when luke gets his hand cut off - when vader gets his hand cut off or when luke is slicing all those guys on jabbas ship in VI).

3. I think all the space travel, starship fights should be CGI ( all space scenes including the deathstar). Look how perfect all the space fights, starships and planets looked in I,II and III. I wouldn't mind a CGI yoda either.

4. Stormtroopers should have the same voice from I,II and III.

5. They should replace the unmasking scene in VI with a burnt deformed Hayden like in III. I think they should use the same voice still (a voice over sounds like it would work).

These changes and a few more sounds good. What do you think?

Dude, pass the pipe, let me get some of that shit.

Cuz there ain't no way I can endorse this unless I was drunk, high out of my mind, and tortured.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.

How can something be ultimate and penultimate? We might as well make it antepenultimate, too.

Jeremy Bulloch is the actor for Boba Fett, but his voice was dubbed in by a different actor (Before Temura Morrisson)- Jason Wingreen I believe.

LOL.... man that's some pretty wacky crack he must be on. though to be fair Lucas has opened the door for this kind of crack-pot lunacy by making so many changes himself... especially considering he wasn't even the director for 2 of the movies!

You make a great point there. That's why the OOT is so important. It, in my opinion, is the DEFINITIVE version, not just because its better, but because it is unaltered. If Lucas had never tried replacing it with the various special editions, than we wouldn't ever have a room full of people who know a different version than another person.

The OOT simply needs to be called the definitive version, the one everyone should know and base thier opinions on.

Well movies are essetially software. So maybe Lucas is going ti treat it as such and release new versions every year or so. Eventually patches and updates can be downloaded. Of course you have to sign and agree to a license saying that Lucas can do no wrong and any public bashing or criticismm will result in you beingtaken away by men in black barets.

you know, as rediculous and un-starwars as that list of changes may be, i would bet money that Lucas would LOVE to make all of those changes, and has certainly thought about all of them.

Sadly, you're probably right. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see that incredibly stupid list of changes on the 2007 or 2008 set. Lucas hates the Ot so much, he'd love to make it even more like the PT.

I think if GL would make a Ultimate Edition it should include following changes:
-Brighten Luke's saber in ROTJ back up!
-Fix Vaders PINK saber, we are used to see him with a BLOODRED saber!
-Fix the swaped audio channels in ANH
-Remove the Jabba scene, or at least take the effort to make him look like where used to see him in ROTJ!
-Brighten ANH back up
-Redo the Battle of Yavin in REALISTIC CG, to capture the same feel as we had back in 77
-Remove the Jawa and Droid jokes in the Mos Eisley entrance, but replace them with new shots of Mos Eisley (without crappy jokes!)
-Han shoots FIRST, but use cut footage like they did for the 97' version of ANH
-Replace the voices of some Stormtroopers with the voice of Temuerra Morrison (SP?)
-Replace the crappy "plastic" Stormtroopers with real Stormies
-Reshoot the Emperor scene from ESB
-Replace Jedi Rock with Lapti Nek again!
-Fix Luke's green saber in ANH
-Remove the choppy effects and the no-colored saber in the Falcon scene
-Replace all the sabers in ANH with TPM sabers, they look very similair to the ROTJ design
-Some minor CG enhacements
-Include all 8 audio mixes made by then for the OT
And the most important part
-INCLUDE A DIGITAL CLEANED UP AND REMASTERED VERSION OF THE OUT IN HD ANAMORPHIC QUALITY!!!
-Don't give us again crappy photoshop covers for these releases!!!

We don't even need to bother hoping Lucas will make good covers. We can pick and choose our own that kick ass. I don't care what Lucas wastes his time doing in that department.

Actually, this wouldn't be such a bad idea. Instead of adding bits and pieces and touching up some scenes, it would be a lot 'cleaner' if the saga was remade from scratch. It would be like an alternate story, not a replacement.
The main problem here is that we'd have lost all of the classic, irreplaceable actors for IV-VI.

I would adore a PT remake. We all have ideas as to how it could be done. Basically, not straying from the original story line too much, but a complete overhaul of the plot line. And first and formost, have the guy that plays Anakin be the same actor for all three movies, just like the other 2 main characters.

For as much as Lucas pimps the PT (and now the over all saga) as an "Anakin" story, why is it that the actor that played him never got top billing? Ever? Even for Episode III, Ewan got top billing.

You look at the OT and it is about, duh, Skywalker, and who gets the top billing? It is, duh, Mark Hamill. I say that the PT is about Obi-Wan.
