Personally I think that the Galactic Herald should have posted a somewhat anonymous Haiku in her memory as part of the obituary.

I seem to remember having discussed this somewhere... with someone... So I figured I'd start a thread.
Considering the fact that Vader is visibly shaken by Padme's death ("Noooo!"), wouldn't you assume that he would be grieving at her funeral? I never understood why him and Palpatine were not in the procession - one of her oldest friends/colleagues, and her husband. Even if news had spread that Anakin had killed her, the Emperor's executive powers would bypass any attempt to block him from being there.

BREAKING NEWS
Musftafar
The traitorous Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, recently removed from command when the Jedi plot to overthrow the government was revealed, has murdered General Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padme Amidala of Naboo while escaping arrest. A period of mourning has been declared on Naboo, and Emperor Palpatine, himself a native of Naboo, has issued a statement expressing his sorrow at losing two of his closest friends. The killer's whereabouts are still unknown, but he will be brought to justice.
So yeah, probably because he was officially dead.
That sounds about right.timdiggerm said:

He'd be able to act simply as a guard to Palpatine in that circumstance. He is always in disguise anyway. Considering the fact that a lot of Anakin's actions hinged on Padme, I couldn't see Palpatine telling him to just forget her. Instead, I see him stringing Vader along on promises of possible resurrection. Attending the funeral, seeing her dead seems like it would help that along nicely.

Was Ani even conscious and functional at that point? Would Palpy have wanted to reveal his new minion yet?

That's a haiku Ric Olie would be proud of. Next time I see him I'll mention it.
I think Vader wanted to be there but lost track of time removing sand from his new suit.
Sand gets everywhere. :(
“Grow up. These are my Disney's movies, not yours.”
I don't think Palpatine was on the invite list. ;)

When I was a kid I used to wonder what the public thought with regard to what happened to Anakin.
The buildup around Episode III made it seem like Anakin was a sort of celebrity to the people of the Galactic Republic. You have to figure that many wondered what happened to him.
I guess it was assumed he died in the Jedi Purge.
One of the problems with the prequels was the lack of involvement of the general populace, especially the people on Coruscant.
I always felt that the Holonet news should have been used in the PT in some way (a few direct scenes, or maybe just playing on some screens in the background during a few of them) to help convey the mood, the feelings people were dealing with during the Clone Wars.
I would've done it like a daily news program with maybe one humanoid and one alien news anchor. Think Futurama. Another obvious use for it would be pure exposistion.
I think it would have gone a long way to generating some real emotional resonance. This was something that was clearly (and sadly) missing from the PT.
“Anakin had those qualities so rarely seen, exuding an unmistakable confidence and yet still able to touch one’s heart in simply knowing how he was so flawed… wounded.”

Should Anakin/Vader have been at Padme's funeral?
That's a good point. We saw sporting events being watched in the bar in Episode II, so there ought to be news broadcasts and even a "C-Span" for the Senate.
Considering the number of attempts on Padme's life, a lot of questions would be raised over her death.
Anakin might have been famous before he left Tatooine if a certain pod race was broadcast off world.
It would have been interesting to see the propaganda broadcast by both sides in the Clone Wars.
I've often wondered how the Empire tried to make the Rebellion look bad in the eyes of Joe Average Imperial citizen.

Palpatine RSVP'd "Maybe" just to be polite, but everybody at the home knew he was a pretentious ponce who didn't actually care about his own daughter-in-law. Well that's if you believe the whole Palpy-was-Annie's-dad-all-along thing, but whatevs.
As for Anakin, well...he was being encased in black armor. What do you think happened? He *couldn't* kriffing go.
You underestimate his power!

If you believed you killed your wife/girlfriend, could you stand to look her family in the eye? Wouldn't you hide in shame?
It's all a moot point anyway. To me, Vader should have lost all his humanity after he was put in the suit and never thought twice about Padme again.
even though Vaders re- birth and Padme's death are intercut, I'd assume that Vaders recovery took a little bit longer than the films ending suggests.
I always secretly hoped that given Padme's history of using 'decoys/hand-maidens' that the body in the coffin wasn't her and that between Obi-Wan, Yoda and Bail Organa her death had actually been staged and she went into hiding in the Organa Palace on Alderaan.
It gets rid of the ridiculous 'died of a broken heart' after giving birth to two beautiful babies plot, and doesn't contradict Leia's memories of her mother.
Maybe it's something for Ady to consider when he gets around to ROTS, find a way to have Padme looking lovingly from the sidelines when they show Bail on Alderaan with his wife and their new daughter.
I agree with that idea, although the idea that Dorme or whoever did some kind of suicide is slightly creepy.
Hey yeah. I had never thought of that before.

I think I have found my signature.
“It is only through interaction, through decision and choice, through confrontation, physical or mental, that the Force can grow within you.”

on the eve of ROTS release, there was a rumor/spoiler that vader shouted NOOOOO but it was off-screen and echoed while we immediately cut to padme's burial.

I managed to finally catch a couple clone wars episodes (one was actually interesting - obi-wan goes undercover and infiltrates a prison) and it seems like they use a news broadcast at the intro of each episode.

The voice over is actually in the style of old movie newsreels, especially WWII era.

Thanks, SilverWook. I think it could’ve worked.
You just have these big screens in the halls of say… the Galactic Senate building.
Senators are walking the halls. Aides are walking the halls. Droids, etc. Think those screens in a movie like Total Recall. I always remember Arnold eating breakfast and watching ESPN. Big video screen that seem like part of the walls. Not everywhere. Strategically placed.
You could shows news broadcasts that give details about a particular battle in the Clone Wars.
“And today, the Jedi Master, General Obi-Wan Kenobi, and his former apprentice, the legendary Anakin Skywalker, thwarted an attempt by a Trade Federation battle cruiser to stop a much needed medical supply vessel from reaching its destination on Ansion.”
Then you flash to a surgeon on the planet saying “Thanks to General Kenobi and General Skywalker, hundreds… if not thousands of lives have be saved.”
Then you cut to the streets of Coruscant where adults and children alike are praising and worshipping Anakin.
“I’m just glad he’s on our side.”
“That young Jedi seems to know how to fight this war.”
“He’s so handsome.”
“Who’s your favorite Jedi?” – Reporter
“Anakin!” – Little boy or girl
As far as politics go, have the screens showing senators like Mon and Padme saying that Palpatine is consolidating too much power. Have a sort of roundtable discussion. Mon, Padme, and throw in some alien senators loyal to Palpatine along with a moderator hosting it. Humanoid? Alien? Doesn’t matter. Both. Different scenes. Nothing big or long. Quick bursts. Little snippets.
Expands the narrative. Increases believability (suspension of disbelief). Generates emotion.
Of course, Lucas could have gone way overboard with that, and had hordes of screaming fangirls mobbing and chasing Anakin all over Coruscant.
And if TCW actually does that, I'm going to sue. ;)
