Idea: a Shawshank Redemption Bonus Disc (* unfinished project *)

Hey all,

I’m thinking of putting together a bonus disc for Shawshank Redemption. There was a bonus disc in the UK but not the US so I’m going to use that one. Does anyone else have any rare stuff I could use? I’m told there was a Showtime special with deleted scenes. Anyone have that?

Let’s hear your thoughts!!

Sounds great! I love the movie. Unfortunately I don't have any material to contribute.

Um... the version in the US has a bonus disc.

Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the war room!

Yah...but not the other stuff from R2. This situation is similar to the Titanic problem.

Ah. That would do it. Well, you've done great work in the past and I see no reason why this shouldn't turn out any different .

You could add this - http://download.yousendit.com/EFCABDE62E3C1F9A

I've also read that a US release of this film came with some sort of an animated parody included among the extras. This could be a worthy addition, too.

By the way, if I were doing a fan edit of this, I would have faded out as the bus is coming towards the border, with Red's voiceover saying "I hope", thus ending the film as it should have ended and eliminating the painful sugary beach ending, glued on after some cretinous preview audience asked for it...

I'm not doing a fan edit. I'm just doing the extras. This will purely be for people in R1 that didn't get the extras, I feel. I'd love to add the supposed Showtime special along with the From Page To Screen if someone has them.

What's the point of adding it if it's already on the R1 retail DVD? And the short was animated, it was a spoof set in a production company starring Morgan Freeman's son.

Ash, are you sure there was a Page to Screen episode on this? I can't find anything on it. TV.com has a list of 11 episodes (7 of which I've seen) and Shawshank isn't listed as one of them. The Bravo website doesn't mention it either.

What's the point of ripping and adding the features that are easily available among the extras of the UK box set, then, by this logic?

The supposed parody is only listed as a feature in a USA release and according to DVDCompare, it was not included in any other regions. The four disc box that I have certainly doesn't have a trace of it.

Because no one in R1 has them and they're not in NTSC for them. Same with the Titanic bonus disc.

Sorry about that. Didn't know it wasn't included in other regions.

So technically this would be a third disc?
This is an absolutely perfect idea especially since I own the Two-Disc Special Edition release. You might as well go dual-layer for this.

essentially, yeah. but i dunno if i'm going to do a dual-layer as they're more expensive. I might just do a 2 disc set and torrent them together.

I have a spindle of dual layered DVD-R's. Perhaps I could snail mail a blank one to you for this project when you complete it.

That's not an acceptable justification.

If the material has been released on DVD, even if it means importing from another region, then you are expected to legally purchase it and use a region free multi format player to watch it. This statement has been reiterated several times now.

If you want to convert stuff to NTSC for your own personal use, fine. But if I see any discussion about distribution (torrenting, snail mail, etc.) then this thread will be locked.

If you do have any rare material that has not been released on DVD, then that is a valid fan project and the type of release that we would encourage on this forum.

Funny.

You didn't come into the Titanic thread when THAT was around.

What a wonderfully professional response from a mod.

Maybe just include the extras from the other disc and add even more material. I'm soon to go multi-region and I don't even know if I'd even get used to PAL shite.
And Titanic shmitanic.
