Sending the SEs back

Author
Time
I know this has been talked about in a few other threads. Anyone seriously planning on doing this? I've checked some other threads that mentioned it and I didn't see an address. I could have missed it though.

Anyone have a definite address for LFL? I checked the website and just found a PO box address where they accept resumes to work there. Don't know if that will do.

I would very much like to do this. I don't want the SEs in my sight at all. I would like to send them back as a bit of a statement. I know people will rip me for this, but I will scratch the disks. I don't see it as immature or stupid. I think it sends a message that I don't want to see these versions and that they are basically wrong in principle.

If I can get an address, I'll be sending them back. It would be a nice little message to George and then I'll check out of SW forever.

You all may attack me now....promise I'll be a good sport about it.

I'm not going to attack you- I've always thought that the sendback idea was a good one. Unfortunately, you'll have to get a lot of people on board to have any impact, and the idea doesn't seem to have many vocal supporters here.

I'm still interested in participating, though. Anyone else?

Actually, you really don't need to send back very many to get people in LFL talking.

Someone in the mailroom gets the package and opens it, tells their supervisor and shows their co-workers. Everyone gets a laugh about it, but they tell anyone else they know at the company what happened in the mailroom. That kind of thing would spread around the workplace after a while and someone in a higher position will eventually hear it.

So the point wouldn't be lost, even if just a few were sent. You would get people in LFL talking about it. That would be enough for me. Of course, the more packages, the bigger the deal the people in the mailroom would make it out to be.

I was originally up for this, but as time has passed and 9/12 draws closer, I really can't be bothered any more.

And to REALLY make an impact, get some media outlet involved too.

I've thought about it and I am roughly 60/40 in favor of not being bothered with this anymore either. But who knows, I may get a wild hair and end up doing it after all. One thing is for sure: I don't want them in my sight either, and if I don't send them back, I will either be selling them, giving them to family (my younger sister hates the SEs but would still take a free copy), or donating them to a charity like a local library, children's shelter, etc.

Why not donate them to a local children's charity or hospital? I'm sure they'd get great use out of them.

because it's not nice to donate things because you hate them, it would be better to buy a new set and donate it to charity.

How would a donor's attitude towards a donated object affect the utility of that object to the recipient? One could argue that it's better to donate something that one hates if the recipient enjoys it; both parties are better off after the donation.

Who said anything about hating them? I'll donate the extra 2004 discs because I already have them. Man, I'm so sick of this thing, it's made everyone so moody and defensive...

Maybe we could send all our SE discs to one of the more artistic forum members, who could make them into a sculpture of Han firing first

Since my 9/11 bonfire idea has fizzled, I'm all for sending mine back.

Where???

Here's a PO Box address:
The mailing address for Lucasfilm is P.O. Box 29901, San Francisco, CA 94129

There's also this street address, but it's for the GL Educational Foundation:

The George Lucas Educational Foundation
5858 Lucas Valley Road
Nicasio CA 94946

My advice would be to NOT send it to the Educational Foundation, as that is a charity. I would imagine people who send the discs back there will give Lucas fodder for negative press and could possibly be demonized by the media...don't give Lucas any ammo and you need to make sure you guys come out on top!

I know that GL's office is in the main house, that I think is just off Lucas Valley Rd. Maybe we could just address it:

George Lucas
Main House
Lucas Valley Rd.
Nicasio, CA 94946

If anyone has a better address- let us know.

Do one or the other. Either scratch it, or send it back.

What? What would simply scratching the discs and then doing nothing with them accomplish?

I wouldn't want to donate them cause I don't want anyone to watch the SEs. LOL. Lucas can have em back. I'm marking them with sharpie.

Which address are you sending them to? The PO Box?

LOL!

You know, I was so pissed off at Lucas for all of this, but, you know, I wonder if sending the SEs back to Lucas would really accomplish our goal. I mean, if all we really want is the OUT on DVD, is insulting his preference for the SEs really going to accomplish anything but make us his enemies? Just thinking out loud.

Nah, never mind. He threw the gauntlet down when he made that idiotic statement for that MTV.com article about how this release of the SEs w/the OUT as mere bonus material would PROVE "...whether they really wanted the original or whether they wanted the improved [sic] versions".

I'm not quite sure yet. I'm in this thread to see which address other people might be sending to. I wasn't planning on buying the movies at all for a while, but then I came to the conclusion after much pondering of the history and facts of the last decade, and decided Lucas has proven that he can't be trusted, so I'm buying them after all and sending him back the SEs.

How about you guys just send them all to me?

As much as I hate them, I would distribute the films freely out to people who do not own them or have not seen them.

Hell, as cool as it sounds, it wont make an impact. Not unless you can get some media attention behind it.

You'd be better off donating them to a local library or day care or something. A place where it could actually do some good, regardless of whether or not its the SE.

Although if you are one of those people intent on defacing the discs before returning them, I can strongly recommend the use of a microwave.
