And THIS is what young skywalker is growing up to be...

I know we all change as we grow up, but I seriously would never have recognized him!

You really wouldn't have recognized him? He looks what I would have expected him to look like at this age, I'd just feel less guilty if I punched him now.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

I would've recognized him upon thinking about it. But in passing on the street? Hell no.

Oh, and Rev, you have my blessing on that punch.

But at least it's better than looking like Hayden Christensen.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

Wow, the Dark Side is certainly strong with him. Good thing he got discovered early in life.

Except for the fact that his head is over half the size of his body and his nose looks like its been broken a few times I'd have to agree with you.

I think his head size is due to the perspective of the photo...

And if you thing his nose looks broken, you should see the nose of the guy who came up with "Chaltab"

"I think his head size is due to the perspective of the photo..."

That wouldn't explain why the rest of his body is comparatively tall and slender, unless you think the photographer has a fish-eye lense on his camera.

Look at the proportions of his eyes and mouth. Very flat and narrow.

Oh, and a little research before making such assumptions would be a good idea.

He looks like a regular teenager going thru puberty.

I know ric, you're right. It was probably mean of me to start this thread, but I had a moment of shock over Lucas' cute lil Anakin and the tough looking guy he was becoming. Its nothing personal towards him I assure you and I hope no one else here means to be truly mean-spirited.

There is of course the apparently natural penchant for young actors to end up becoming teenage thugs. I hope that this doesn't happen to Jake. Its not his fault that he can't act and that Lucas wrote the 'Phantom Menace' script while on a weekend-long bender after eating some mushrooms from the Skywalker Ranch properties.

OK, maybe it *is* Jake's fault he can't act... but it George's fault for casting him.

frickin' Jar-Jar!

I still don't blame a single actor in the PT for being "bad" per se. I think it's all in the direction. I entirely blame Lucas and chromakey acting. I've seen Hayden in Life as a House and he was pretty good. Natalie is not the best actress in the world, but, when not in a SW movie, she's much better. I think Ewan is a spectacular actor outside of the SW canon. Etc., etc., ad infinitum.

Interesting take Bossk. I've always just chalked it up to Jake's age at the time being responsible for his speaking lines. I think it would be hilarious to see George directing him on how to say a line, and him saying "Look George, this is preposterous. I maybe a young boy in this movie, but I'm still frickin Vadar! I don't need to be so wish washy on my lines" (imagine him talking like an older british guy too ).

What's Life as a House? I didn't even know Hayden did anything aside from SW. Is it any good? I wouldn't mind checking out his other acting jobs for comparison.

It's a Kevin Kline film about a guy who is dying and his dying wish is to build this house for himself and his family. Hayden is his highly disrespectful and deviant son who hates him (of course). Check it out. Came out the year before AOTC.

Stop blaming Lucas for the ineptitude of lousy "actors". He didn't make Christensen, Lloyd or Portman stink - they do it themselves. Was Alec Guinness bad in the OT? Is Ewan MacGregor bad in the PT? Is Liam Neeson bad? How about Ian McDiarmid? Christopher Lee? Hell, Ray Parks isn't a Shakespearian thespian, and yet he was five hundred times better in TPM than all MTV-made "stars" are in any film they infect.

I think the truth lies somewhere in between. The director is ultimately responsible for either pulling a good acting job out of the people they chose for the role OR choosing someone better for the role. Lucas was fully in control of casting and he had no budget restraints on making his choices. What it ended up seeming like was that ultimately Lucas' excitement over the prospects of the special effects overshadowed his decisions in cast. In old interviews Lucas has stated that his least favorite part of making movies is dealing with actors, and after not having *had* to deal with them for as many years as he had gone without directing a film himself I'm sure he was a bit rusty. And there was no one there to take him aside and suggest that perhaps he step more into production and let a more capable director take over. This worked wonders in at least two films I can think of: "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (not that he 'stepped aside' in the latter case, but his ideas, his stories mostly but a better director).

Lesser movies have been reshot entirely when a major cast member or director didn't work out.
