You're right, I screwed that one up.

Eh hem!

Wow, it derails on topic discussion too! Like a yellow Swiss Army knife of derailment.

See, I thought you were correct.  I interpreted as meaning that, since we were somewhat off-topic on this thread already (talking about the purchase of the book rather than an audio version of it), that Frink was derailing an off-topic in on-topic rather than an on-topic in off-topic.  But instead you meant he was derailing on-topic in an on-topic rather than an on-topic in off-topic or an off-topic in off-topic.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

So this audio project thing you got going here sounds like a rather neat idea. Reminds me of something I heard on the internet in a jokeesque context about audio comics. At least I think it was a jokey atmosphere wherein I heard that idea tossed around. Can't be sure, I'm having one of those days where I've gone without sleep for extended periods. Specifically 30 hours.

Any ways Ziz's idea for "casting" people for the different people got me interested. Though I recognized that would be the hardest to deal with editing wise.

I heard you like on-topic and off-topic. So I put some on-topic in your on-topic, off-topic in your off-topic, some off-topic in your on-topic, and on-topic in your off-topic.

Sluggo, Frink, and Bingo-

You three have been active in this thread without quite volunteering, so I've left you off of the chapter list for now.  If I was meant to take your snark as volunteering to read, please let me know and I will sign you up.

Others- I made assigments in the order your volunteered.  Chapters 2 and 3 are quite long, so if need to split those up, let's do that.  If you're cool with reading all of that, then have at it.  If there's a different chapter you'd rather read, let me know and we'll see what we can work out:

From 1st post:

Forward/Intro: Zombie

Chapter 1: xhonzi (~24 pages)
Chapter 2: 005 (~88 pages)
Chapter 3: Gaffer (~52 pages) (nice to have a female voice here, methinks)
Chapter 4: xhonzi(~12 pages)
Chapter 5: Akwat (~36 pages)
Chapter 6: Ziggy S. (~15 pages)
Chapter 7: <>       (~43 pages)
Chapter 8: <>       (~16 pages)
Chapter 9: <>       (~16 pages)
Chapter 10: <>      (~34 pages)

Conclusion: Zombie

*Chapter list and page length taken from e-book v 1.2.  Though the official text for this version would be either the first printed version or the revision due 2013.

Well, a big h-e-double hockey sticks-hockey puck to you xhonzi.

Sure, I'd like to contribute somehow.  I could try a chapter.  8 or 9 maybe.  Sluggo is busy with work, church stuffs and trying to spend time with the lady-friend, but I can make an attempt.

Lady friend? TAKE IT TO OFF TOPIC!

And I adjusted the Chapter assignments.

So.... anybody do any recording yet? My parents are visiting this weekend, but maybe I can get some recording done next.

Just finished mine. How do you want it delivered? Also, do you have a preferred audio format?

Nice! Finished your five minute demo, right? I don't have an audio format preference, and I would think something like an MP3 would be good enough for Zombie to check out and make sure he likes where this is heading.

I'm not the best file sharer, so someone can probably improve my recommendation: but isn't rapidshare still best for something like this?

Or I could add a folder to google docs for everything.

I like the google docs folder option, myself.

Anyway, just let me know how you want it delivered, and you shall have your five minute demo.

I don't actually think Zombie can check this out and say if he likes where it is heading or not.

Anything we do with this has to be completely unofficial. Like he said in his last post, if we looked for permission for everything we do here, the things that have made this site thrive wouldn't be here. My interpretation of his post was that he was essentially saying that doing something like this wouldn't bother him personally so long as the quality was decent.

I love the idea of an audiobook for The Secret History of Star Wars. If an official one existed, I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat at full price. Libervox audiobooks on the other hand... I've yet to meet one I could stomach listening too. When I first heard about Libervox I thought it was one of the most amazing ideas anyone had ever come up with, but then I downloaded a few and discovered that listening to amateur readers with five dollar microphones for anything longer than a minute could probably qualify as a form of torture in many countries. That being said, every now and then you'll find a book with an absolutely fantastic reader, perfect voice and a great quality recording and think, hey, this is great, I could listen to the whole books like this... until chapter two and the shrill voiced girl takes over.

So maybe this could turn out okay.

Remember in my post when I mentioned the absolute fantastic Libervox reader with the perfect voice and decent quality recording equipment? I am afraid that wouldn't be me.

And then I'd never be able to listen to the book myself, because I can't stand to hear myself talk. So, I am afraid not. :(

I'm curious how this has turned out so far. You guys should post it on a public file-sharing site for feedback.

Also, this confused me a bit reading the previous page: is this being made from the e-book PDF from way-back or the actual published version? They are quite different.

Demo is being done from PDF for lazy people* without the book yet.

As long as it is just the demo. The book itself is already long-winded in many places. I'm cutting out a good ten to fifteen pages worth of stuff just from reducing the repetition and by condensing things for the new version.

Author
Time

Maybe we should wait to do the actual recording until the new version has been published and purchased...

What, do you need a personal invitation to send me your e-mail address? I already asked for all contributors to send them to me, but your highness needs one with her name on it.

*ahem*

Gaffer, please PM me your e-mail address so I can add you to the Google Docs group.

And then put your 5 minute demo in there. So far Akwat's is the only one.
