Does anyone know if this film was preserved on DVD? I remember it was released years ago on VHS, alongside the R rated version.
The PG version is an interesting cut of the film, because all the scenes where there is alot of cursing, were re-filmed, so they are alternate takes. I know, I know, disco sucks, but this movie is killer.

Ive always liked the film and remember this, Im sure I had this cut on VHS at one time as I was young my mum wouldnt have wanted me to have the adult cut, this PG version Im sure was also shown on TV here as I remember in the early 80s it was shown a few times on TV in the very late afternoon.

If I remember rightly the same thing was done here with the Eddie Murphy/Nick Nolte film 48hrs there was a cut of film which if I remember the swearing was toned down at a UK 15 cut and released on video and a UK 18 cut which was released which was the full version.

This is on AMC right now - already saw some great new scenes....I'm going to try to capture this with my MINI-DV deck on monday (it airs again)

Apparently this version has even more footage than the original tv/pg version.....be nice to get more info than what's provided on IMDB or wikepedia...

I think for this project is would be cool to inercut the widescreen r rated version with the fullscreen amc version - so each time you would know when an alternate take was used, or when you're watching a deleted scene etc.....would you agree molly - or whoever else is interested in this project?

I prefer to use all FS or all WS.

AMC has a small, translucent station bug, seems to have 2 variants (the box with the letters amc, and a small url in the same place). Keep this in mind.

I have 3 DVD-RWs formatted and ready to accept the video when it comes on. (I want to cap it at the max quality my DVD recorder will allow!) I don't know how I will get it to anyone here who needs it , because my burner is busted I cannot copy the discs, and I don't have space to store a whole disc on drive (but I have enough to store any one FILE from disc at one time).

I myself don't need this after I've capped it, I'll archive it to my computer as an AVI. But that's not good enough for preservation.

According to TV Guide, I will have to cap for 2.5 hours. Perhaps at these bitrates, a DL is possible once the commercials are removed. I have just enough blanks to cap it and what I need to cap tonight and can spare one or two of my once or twice used RWs - and tomorrow I already plan to buy more blanks. Verbatim's a good brand of DVD-RW isn't it?

Anyway, I hope this is the version we're looking for. "...these aren't the droids..."

(edit: I guess this board has some trouble with cyrillic...so much for the fancy M I had in the message before)

this is "TV14 DLSV". It's prolly a downedit of the R version, not the PG version...

I'm capturing right now to my dv deck....quality should be pretty good...although amc uses a ton of compression..this version has the disco duck travolta dance scene, as well as him trailing his finger along the bridge, two scenes that are supposed to be exclusive to the amc cut...

Hey guys, so I've captured it and cut out the commercials....quality is decent, I'm wondering if anyone has the uncut version of the behind the music special on SNF (dvd version was a shorter version), I have it on vhs, does anybody else have a better quality version? Any other things that might be worth including?

VH1 Classic appears to be airing the PG version tonight (May 12) at 8 PM Eastern, but that overlaps with me capping Waterworld, so I can't cap it.

The MCA DiscoVision site says all the later LD pressings were actually the PG version in spite of an R rating on the back cover.

Just get that and a digitizer, and you're done.

I created a version of this film that contains all the unique content from the pg version, deleted scenes from the DVD and the unique scenes found in the TV version. It's up on the 'spleen.

*edit* I see the seeds are few and far between for it there..let me know if you want it and I'll seed when I have a chance.

Love to see people are still posting on here. Dying to see PG version, cannot believe how hard it is to find! Is it possible to get a copy, even if I’m not on myspleen?
