Samuel L. Jackson & Laurence Fishburne

Author
Time
Both Samuel L. Jackson and Laurence Fishburne have been quoted as saying that people often confuse them. Jackson says that he and Fishburne have stood right next to each other at premieres and what not, and he has distinctly heard people call him by Laurence's name while others call Laurence by Jackson's name.

Does anyone find that a little absurd? I mean, they really don't look that much alike (Sam's face is smoother, Laurence's is a little more weather-beaten).

I think that's ridiculous. They look nothing alike. And how can you hear 'distinct' voices in the cacaphony of reporters and fans at a premiere? Silly actors- trix are for kids!

There's this story told by Samuel L Jackson, he was on a plane and this woman sitted next to him mixed him up with Lawrence Fishburne, and he didn't correct her or anything...

How can one mix up the two? I mean, mixing up Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton is one thing, I mean, they ARE the same person, but Samuel L Lackson and Lawrence Fishburne look, sound and even act in a different way.

All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I couldn't mix up Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton even if I wanted to. They, much like Sam and Larry, are completely different looking.

Now Jason and Jeremy London? Fuhgeddaboudit.

Now those damn Ewoks... they ALL look the same to me!

The easiest way to distinguish between the two is... the gap... between Fishbourne's two front teeth.

Eh, I dunno. They do have similar looks. I could understand the mistake. Although, I don't think its one I'd make personally.

I don't really mix them up because of how they look, I just forget which one is Paxton and which one is Pullman.

Ah. Gotcha. I just remember Pullman because he looks just like a guy I used to work with. In fact, I'm not the only one who has told him that. And, ironically enough, a couple of paintings that my Pullman-esque friend painted were rented for use in the movie While You Were Sleeping starring Pullman (you can see one of them in the widescreen version of the movie as a wall hanging in Peter Gallagher's apartment)

I try to remember that the one from Titanic and Frailty is Paxton, and the one from Spaceballs is Pullman. But sometimes I mix them up.

have they ever been in anything together?

I think you'd be more likely to mix up Ving Rhames and Michael Clarke Duncan than Jackson & Fishburne, and even that would be pretty difficult.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

I used to mix up Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock, back then when both actress were not THAT famous.

I used to mix up Mike Tyson and Dedrick Tatum. Can't figure out why.

in my mind he fits more of a "jedi master" feel than sammy. Sammy = shaft, Larry = Morepheus. Not to take anything away from sammy, cause he is a great actor, i just prefer Fishy, He talent is a little bit more diversified imo, and i think he could pull the Jedi Master thing off in a more refined manner, and in the end still be a bad ace...

As far as I know, SLJ's casting in the prequels was down to an interview he gave on a british TV show called TFI Friday (thank fuck it's friday) which aired every friday night in the mid nineties. It was probably the biggest chat show of the time, and pretty much summed up nineties britain. Anyway, Samuel L was on the show and he said he was asked what his dream role was and he said he'd kill to be in the new star wars movies "I'll do anything, I'll play Luke Skywalker's slave if I have to" and the rest is history.

War does not make one great.

I just get their names confused. When I'm thinking of Morgan Freeman, Lawrence Fishburne, or Samuel Jackson I have to take a moment to think of which name goes with the one I'm thinking of. But I never get the men themselves confused.

Is that a sign of latent racial thinking to categorize the actors together just because they're all black and in similar movies? Or is that just a logical consequence of three guys sharing a salient characteristic that happens to be divided along racial lines? Oh well.

Fashion is also an ilusion. It's all commercial.

Sorry to be getting off topic but could you have seen Morgan Freeman or Keith David as the Jedi Master Mace Windu?

Could it not be argued in your opinion that Mace and Morpheus are essentially the same character?
