Yeah, Jackson used CGI when necessary, and only when necessary. Having said that, all this dissing of George Lucas aside, he is a pioneer. He changed the way films were made in the seventies and he's pushing the boundaries still in the digital age. It's bound to not work all the time, but without people like George Lucas, we'd never know. After listening to the DVD commentaries, he's gone up in my books. And listening to Irvin Kershner was a joy.

He definitely changed the way movies were made and that's why I care so damn much about these films. I think his pioneering methods need to be preserved. Instead, he's denying that they ever existed. He blazed new trails and now he wants to cover them up in favor of another trail that he is having trouble keeping his footing on. Yes, I am referring to his use of CG. He's trying to use it and he's just not using it well. It looks so blatant, so fake. He's just not doing a good job of it.

Agreed. And ILMs standards seem to be slipping. The Hulk, for example, and The Scorpion King. Weta on the other hand... You know that when the news that the Lord Of The Rings was going to be made into a movie started to spread, George and ILM sat back and waited for the phonecall...But it never came. When you are the best of the best you get complacent and then somebody comes and steals your crown. I work in the industry and I have a friend who used to work at ILM and he worked on Episode 1 but quit soon after and came to work in London - I said to him 'you quit ILM, are you mad?!' and he said it's not what it used to be.

I just hope Weta doesn't let it go to their heads and they keep working on quality productions instead of just every project that is willing to shill out the bucks.

What else has Weta done?

I think that... Every Peter Jackson movie from "Brain Dead" until today, but I'm not sure.

Oh and WETA is planning on doing a live action version of Neon Genesis Evangelion with american actors. If this movie gets made, "Hollycrap" will put a gun on Anime's head, and pull the trigger. The greatest anime of all time must NOT be made into a crappy hollywood flick, if it happens not only NGE but ANIME itself will be DEAD.

No, and I hope they never do. Every morning after I wake up I spend 30 minutes mentally transmiting cancer to those responsibles for this movie, so that they never do it.
