it looks so good too

I've never seen Superman 2 before, and now with the proper version coming out I doubt I'll ever watch the original.

Superman II is still pretty decent as is, but you can tell that Donner just isn't there for the latter half of the movie.

The Donner Cut won't even be in the boxed set, according to The Digital Bits (and yes, I know Mr. Sylvester's feelings about Mr. Hunt).

I was afraid that they'd pull a Robocop and make the good version available only in the boxed set so that diehards like me would buy it.

And let us not forget that the first two films wil also include remasters of the masterful Fleisher Superman shorts.

I thought they were making yet another definitive DVD collection of the Max Fleischer Superman shorts.

Speakin of which - Max Fleishcer Superman VS. Bruce Timm Superman, which do you prefer?
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Anmation wise I prefer the Fleischer cartoons.

Story wise, Bruce Timm's.

I think of them as the Kal-L and Kal-El of the Animation World.

Really? Intriguing...

I probably ranted about this before, but I always thought that the animation of the Bruce Timm Superman was a step down from their animation on the first Batman series (1992-1995). I thought their Superman looked too much like a block figure, and for some reason it annoyed the Hell out of me that his eyes were nothing but black dots. But storywise, Timm's series was as good as it could get.

Exaclty. The Fliesher cartoons are so impressive in animation just because of the era they were made in. When most cartoons were super-simplified anthro-animals, these cartoons had human beings that moved like real people. The stories were nothing to write home about, but the animation is good enough that it doesn't matter.

The Bruce Timm cartoons are from a different era. The animation is not bad, but it was a step down from B:TAS, which set the standard so ridiculously high. Superman's design was pretty good, but the lack of a Gold Emblem on the cape and the dots for eyes hurt it. Still, it looks enough like the Fliescher cartoons that you could concievably see them as hapening in the same general section of the Multiverse.

Technically, I think of the Fliescher cartoons Superman as Kal-L, the Filmation/Superfriends cartoons as Kal-El, and the Superman of S:TAS as Post-Crisis animated Superman. (After all, Superfriends ended in 1985, same year Crisis happened)

70+ years later, the Fleisher shorts hold up just as well as anything made today, and are often better. Their influence on Japanese anime as a whole is even clear.

Timm's Supes, though, was an excellent character, and seems to be what Singer was attemping to do with SR. "The Late Mr. Kent," for example, explores Superman's dual identity superbly.

So not only is Peter Griffin a rip-off of Homer, apparently Stewie is a rip off of Superman's Kid. Right down to the lobe head.

I'm hearing '09. Big movie without a script yet ... it'll take a while to get it prepped, shot, and ready.

A trilogy, no doubt.

In many respects, it already is a trilogy. S:TM, SII and SR. III and IV are merely incidental.
