Hmmm, I reposted that one during the first week of May, IIRC, for The_Blond_Babe who posts many cool vids in a.b.beatles, such as the Let It Be film which has never been issued on DVD, preserved from LD.

RATLSNAKE, I owe you one (for Dr_Gonzo's Supplemental Material from torrentbox).
I'll be happy to re-repost it, but proper 'netiquette suggests we should wait until it expires from Giganews who claim 70 day retention.
It's still on my hard drive, but let's wait a couple weeks longer and then I'll repost....

THX to ADigitalMan and segaflip for the original post. segaflip, I hope your new PC is coming together soon

Update: Rather than re-reposting to a.b.starwars, instead I've seeded a torrent @demonoid

Over in the X0 thread you're begging for rars 49 hours after they were originally posted.
Your news provider must have some piss-poor completion/retention.
If I repost ADM's, will you even be able to get it ?

If I grab it quick enough. Tell me this, if I get Giganews now, will it allow me to grab binaries that were posted the last two months, or do I build up from here?

You'll be able to get the old stuff too, not just new.
Does Giganews still offer the free three-day trial ? When I tried it, it was limited to 2GB total so it wouldn't allow you to grab ADM's, but you could get the X0 timecode that way and try out Giganews.

I much prefer newshosting to giganews. Just my opinion...
Author

I prefer Astraweb, for their pay-by-download pricing model where unused gigabytes never expire. It fits my usage pattern.

ThatArtGuy, you're certainly free to recommend NewsHosting if you like their service.
I want to make it clear, however, that my mention of Giganews wasn't intended as a recommendation.

Giganews offers a free trial, which might help trickbaxter form his own opinion about whether or not he prefers them.

Giganews claims 70 days retention, which influences my opinion about how long one ought to wait before reposting, even though I'm not a Giganews customer.

I´ve been using giganews for five years now. with unlimited account, i download +200Gb every month. speed is great, very good retention, very good completion, no hassle with share rations, etc.

please people! signup for a good newsgroup provider. giganews, easynews,... and save us from the repost nightmare within two days of the original post. please.

Someone posted a VHS>DVD transfer of ANH in a.b.nl under the name "sworiginal". It is P&S though, and it has burnt in Dutch subtitles.

That's no moon. It's a LaserDisc.

does anyone know if "The Eraser Definitive Collection" set is still available?
thanks

Eraser posted his trilogy in mid-March. I'm not aware of any news provider with a retention that long.
Having said that, I still have his ANH RARs on my hard drive. I didn't grab ESB & ROTJ because:
a) I didn't have a DL burner yet at that time
b) I didn't have very much free disk space
c) I was somewhat underwhelmed by the screenshots that russss posted

If you like, I can provide you Eraser's ANH RARs either by reposting or ... ???
We should talk (privately?) about your LD captures (Cat# 1130-84 and 1425-84) with original Dolby stereo soundtracks
which segaflip had in his queue before his meltdown.

Thanks Darth.

Can you PM me via the forum once you've re-posted it?

yes it is working now,i think,i got the elusive monster squad HD file, and i tried to get the X0 TC file, but when i un-rar it it says corrupted, doesnt downloading stuff from newsgroups do hash checks like torrenting to prevent this?i took your advice Russ,i got an astraweb acct $25.00 for 90 gigs deal, and i signed up for the grabit search, this was less that $2.00 for a month(but there search servers dont have alt.binaries.starwars)what is up with that?
alo when you get done downloading a file, what are .par2 files?what are these for?do these correct corrupted files?sorry for the bombardment, but not sure what these are for LOL
but 1 thing is for certain,DAMN is downloading ALOT faster,5 1\2 hrs for Monster Sqaud HD file,20 mins for the X0 TC file,WAAAAAY faster than torrenting.
thanks for any and all help

And way more anonymous.

You're right; the purpose of PAR(2) files is to fix corrupt RARs.
I use par2cmdline, but lots of Windows users seem to prefer QuickPar

dark_jedi, you do use par2 files to fix corrupt rar files. If you use quickpar (available at http://www.quickpar.org.uk/Download.htm), you can see which rar files are broken. If any need to be fixed, you can download some of the par files that were posted with the original files to fix them. You need to download enough par files to fix the missing chunks, but quickpar will tell you when you have enough. You run quickpar again to check if you have enough and it will fix the files.

Check out this tutorial too.

You should now be able to sort out your X0 TC files.

Have you tried out NOMP to download your files??? It is by far the easiest and quickest method I have found so far.

OK i ran quikpar on the file (X0 TC file)and it says i need 1 more block, how do i get this or do i have to download the whole thing again?
thanks Russ for the link, binsearch is cool, and very helpful, just checked the Batman and The Monster Squad HD files with quikpar and they were good to go,thank god.

The number after the plus sign in the filename is the number of blocks it contains.
X0.Project.TC.vol000+01.PAR2 contains one block. Get that one.
X0.Project.TC.vol078+37.PAR2 contains thirty-seven blocks. It would work also, but you'd be wasting a few pennies because it's a bigger file.

I did not know that was how you knew how many blocks were in a par2 file. I definitely learned something there........

1 thing though, i took meedermows suggestions and put quikpar on auto-fix, and it supposedly fixed and put 1 file in the recycle bin, then i ran it again and it said no repair neccesary, but then when i go back to unrar, same result,"! CRC failed in X0.Project.DC.Capture.Timecode.Print.divx.avi. The file is corrupt"

**ps is anyone using Grabit's search feature? the reason i ask is they dont have alt.binaries.starwars in there grabit usenet browser, does anyone know how to add it?**

UPDATE!
I just want to thank ALL of you that have helped me get this going(newsgroups),I have it(X0 file)now I can FINALLY see how fantastic this is going to look for myself,so all the kind souls here that reply in help, and very fast i might add, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
but i do have 1 question, how can i post a request,if you download MonstersHD july programming schedule, you will see there was ALOT of shows played up to date that would be great files, example(now I am assuming all there shows on monstershd is a part of VOOM which is all hi-def)Halloween,Evil Dead 1 &2,Sleepaway camp The Monster Squad(which I now have,am joining the files together now,and start processing it,thanks Moth3r))etc. and King Kong RKO 1933 B&W is coming at the end of the month.

thanks a bunch

My internet provider has stopped offering newsgroup service. It is now sub-contracting it to another newsgroup service which is offering a free 1 gigabyte per month. It's not too bad. 30 days retention 99% of the headers. The only restriction is to have a ip address from the real internet provider. I created myself 3 accounts, now have 3 free gb per month which is enough for me to dnload new star wars material beside dnload big movies. One big problem, I can't send anything anymore over the newsgroups, it seems it's dnload only.

Anyone know a free newsgroups provider service that I can use to "upload" or reply to people, or request stuff?

Thanks.
