STAR WARS: REBELS (animated tv series) - a general discussion thread — Page 27

I really enjoyed the 1st episode.  I remember not liking the previews very much but the actual show was pretty entertaining.

Sure the main characters, the main kid who is just a combo of Luke and Han, and the dull jedi are not that great but the supporting characters are very good. Filoni and his team really know how to tell a good Star Wars story and all the design work and music is impressive.  It was just a lot of fun.

i honestly wished they had given Filoni the directors chair on episode 7 and I thought that as far back as the Clone Wars cancellation. I have a feeling this Rebels show will be the one everyone enjoys with the upcoming movie causing the usual anger and disappointment.

So the characters are basically

- Space Aladdin

- Violet Wookie

- Shaggy Rogers as a Jedi

- Female Boba Fett

- rusty version of R2D2

- a green tailhead

and the officers are typical Disney villains (thin Jewish looking guy and fat dumb strong guy) and of course Agent Wolverine without claws

That has to be the most ignorant post I've ever read on this forum.

I thought "Rebels" was ok, but I expect the series to get significantly better as it goes on. I'd really like to see Leia introduced near the end of the series, and I think it would be really cool if the series ends right where "Star Wars" starts.

I enjoyed it. Still didn't care for the look of the Wookies, though. I have high hopes for this series as it grows.

I am what all Jedi fear to become, and what all Sith wish to be. A GOD!

Even though the pilot Spark of Rebellion aired in HD it is being released on October 14th as DVD only.  No deleted scenes, or bonus material of any kind.

No Blu ray.

The show was not great, and not that bad either.

Biggest prequelism i noticed was the Artoo unit having a jet booster like Artoo from the prequels.  Also the Obi Wan Hologram, and the Inquisitor looks like that dubious guy from the planet where Obi Wan chased Grievous in episode III.

Other than that they were trying pretty hard for an OT style.

The one character i really don't care for is Sabine.   I don't hate the character she just seems uninteresting. If not outright annoying like in the mini episode.

I was far more interested in the smuggling aspect and the rebels without lightsabers.  As soon As Kanan whips his lighstaber out it became almost prequel like to me.  The  stormtroopers all focusing fire on him and him deflecting them with his lightsaber was very prequelish and video gamey.

Why can't Kanan simply have just been a smuggler why did he have to be a smuggler jedi.  I think the character would be more interesting if he was not waving around a light stick.

I'm sure we'll probably see a blu ray release included when season one comes out on home video

I wonder if the home video releases will also be 2.35:1, like TCW.

I'm afraid I don't know a thing about aspect ratios and what not. Is 2.35:1 better or worse than what is being aired on TV?

^It's the aspect ratio the original trilogy is filmed in. In a situation like this, it's probably better as there's more information on the sides. You don't lose anything on top/bottom if it's been pan-and-scanned for 16:9, which if there's a different aspect ratio, is probably what happened.

Yes, I checked and with TCW the 16:9 TV broadcasts were definitely cropped from 2.35:1. The 2.35:1 gives it a more epic film-like feel somehow.

I like the idea of the final episode ending with Leia going to pick up Kenobi on Tattooine and the Ghost crew going off to meet Bail Organa on Alderaan. Then we all know what happens. . .

The animation is already really suffering from a clearly reduced budget. Somehow I doubt they are animating things off screen we can't even see. The whole show looks like an early 2000's video game in a lot of ways. It might grow on me, but it was really grim in a lot of ways.

The other qualm I had was it never successfully set up the Imperials as evil enough. I found myself sympathizing with the Imperials, as the  Rebels often came across as causing unnecessary loss of life in terms of grunts. They did nothing to discourage that sympathy. Perhaps it's residual love of Clones, but either way, I wasn't able to detach myself from that violence in the same way as I could in the OT.

They likely would never do an ending that dark, even if it's implied.

The Clone Wars got Ashoka safely out of the way of the events in Episode III.

I think that had more to do with Ahsoka being Filoni's waifu than anything else. Lucas said she should die by TCW's end after all. It's only Filoni's favoritism combined with TCW's cancellation that let Snips live.

Yeah, I think the only reason she made it out alive was the show's sudden cancellation.

Eww, he created her and then raised her throughout the life of the show. She's more like his daughter than anything else.

Because nobody should ever not want to kill off one of their characters. George didn't kill Jar Jar either. ;)

In any case, she left the Jedi order before the final season. That plot line had to have been written way before they knew the show was getting the ax.

The show was given the axe right in the middle of production of season six. It caught everyone working on the show by surprise.

Is it too much to ask that people on a Star Wars board know how Wookiee is spelled? I don't misspell the name of your species... ;)
