It's not the word "Padawan" so much, it's more that I was allowing myself the nieve dream that Disney-Star Wars was going to be a PT free universe.

That dream should have been shattered once you saw the Inquisitor. It was for me. Unless you've never seen ROTS. =P

You know, I'm just now noticing those guys in the far back. Could that be a hint that the Royal Guards are actually supposed to be Pau'ans?

The animation of everything looks much more realistic (almost movie quality), but I really get bothered by the lack of any textural details.  TCW had some more detailed textures in its latter seasons.

And hopefully, we'll get full 2:35:1 ratio versions for the Bluray release.

For those of you not in the know, I'm on vacation in the heart of Mouseland in Florida. I saw a little kid wearing a Rebels t shirt today, and the show isn't even out yet!

Don"t know if I'm venturing into the actual lair of the Mouse yet, but if I do, I'll see what SW merchandise is on the shelves.

Where were you in '77?

Yeah that's one aspect of it I'm a little iffy on. The Clone Wars had a very stylized painted look whereas Rebels looks to be taking on a colored pencil kind of vibe. I don't think it works as well but I guess we'll see how it develops over time like TCW did.

The term Padawan doesn't even make sense. Kanan himself was barely a Padawan himself when the purge went down. It's as I said, a noob leading a noob.

Oh---From the few flash cuts to that character in the trailer, I hadn't noticed he was one of those guys. Now you've really depressed me dude :-(

Not that I disliked that alien in the grand scheme, as at least he wasn't CGI and was played by The Gyro Captain.

Where has it been established that Kanan was a Padawan during the purge?

Also keep in mind the character who is calling him that doesn't know the characters, he's just seen a Jedi and what appears to be his apprentice so obviously he's going to call him a Padawan.

Interesting theory. I always assumed that Royal Guards are just Senate Guards in red.

I'm pretty sure in a Filoni interview it was said the purge happened during his formative years. He could have been less than a Padawan for all we know now. My point is this isn't gonna be some overpowered PT Jedi.

Is it possible that Rebels is trying to connect the prequels to the original trilogy?

Doubtful, considering Filoni has confirmed that Stormtroopers are not clones. I believe their intentions are as they stated, revisiting the OT era and exploring the formation of the Rebellion.

Oddly enough, I just listened to him in the SDCC panel for the New Dawn book coming out featuring Hera and Kanan and he straight-up said that the due to the rapid aging of the clones, they have "aged out" of the stormtrooper corps. and because of the deterioration of Jango's DNA, many new recruits have been forced into service through fear of the Empire. There are no clones left in the Empire, more or less.

He explained that this was the reason that, by ANH, stormtroopers weren't great shots and seemed to be a little more incompetent.

True or not, I've added that little genius peace of logical thinking to my own personnal canon. Big smile!

I don't know...the new cartoon just doesn't feel like Star Wars to me,...it still has that Prequel Clone Wars style,....I hope im wrong, but I ll probably pass on it & leave it for the kids

.......but on the other hand.....I'm getting a '77 Star Wars excitement feeling from this.......maybe this is the direction the cartoon should be going

It's pretty sad to see Star Wars come to this, but it's the only way the prequels will get their fair appreciation. Disney represents EXACTLY what most people want. And when they get it, they will finally appreciate the prequels for what they are, which is something less populist, but more intelligent.

Original, Special Edition, and Prequel trilogy gusher. Not a fan of any Disney era Star Wars.

And so, yes, Rebels is connecting the OT to the PT.

If its anything like California Mouseland, 90% OT and some Darth Maul stuff.

More likey they didnt want to pay for more alien masks.

A totally PT free world is an unrealistic expectation. The movies have been around forever and made 3/4 kajillion dollars. Theyve been toys, theyve been video games, and like it or not, LOTS OF PEOPLE actually like them

Focus that Rebels is OT heavy. They talk about the OT look for the lightsabers, the OT troopers. Disney is releasing three OT comic books.

^I notice they don't call him a Dark Jedi, though, either. I've noticed that with TCW, too, in regard to the non-Sith darksiders on that show.

Frankly, I don't know why the current regime is so reluctant to use the term; they're always going "Well, such-and-such isn't a Sith, but he does use the dark side of the Force and yada yada yada". For God's sake, just say the non-Sith darksiders are Dark Jedi and save yourself the effort of using so many words to say so very little.

To me, though, Dark Jedi holds the connotation that they were once (or are currently) Jedi.

Actually, I'm not sure why I said that since I can also see it working as a layman's term for any type of dark Force user, as well as a Jedi term for a dark Force user who wasn't affiliated with the Sith.

Probably because the OT did just fine without any term for darksiders.
