Whoa, whoa, whoa! I am actually feeling kind of excited about something with the name "Star Wars" on it again, that was unexpected...
I do hope they ditch the Thunderbirds look of the Clone Wars.
Just announced that the new animated series is going to be Star Wars: Rebels.
It is to be set between Eps 3 & 4.
More details (and a video) can be found here:
http://starwars.com/news/new-animated-series-star-wars-rebels-coming-fall-2014.html
It does look like Disney are wanting to move more towards the OT and away from the PT.

I must say this is great news. What an absolutely fantastic animated series this is going to be! Think of the possibilities!!!! Roll on 2014!
2014?! But that's a whole 'nother year!!!
Really looking forward to this. And I love the fact that they are using Mcquarrie's art as the main inspiration.
“In the future it will become even easier for old negatives to become lost and be “replaced” by new altered negatives. This would be a great loss to our society. Our cultural history must not be allowed to be rewritten.” - George Lucas
Rebels, huh... Sounds interesting!
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.
Sounds good, hopefully they stay away from Jedi & Sith story lines, and don't use the same Tartakovsky style as the Clone Wars

.....and good to give RMQ designs some life
For some reason I can be optimistic about the new movies but these spinoffs just always leave me either nervous or indifferent. This is the former, but with the screenwriter from X-Men First Class working on it maybe it could be good.
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
This video does suggest the creative team are in the right head space to make this good. Shame it's not gonna be drawn instead of CG but still.
It would be cool if the x-wings looked liked the RM concept versions.
VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.
I'm not an anime fan, and have never gotten into any anime at all, but for some weird reason I can't explain, I've always wished they'd make a Star Wars anime series or adaption of the films.
I kind of wish this new series was at least drawn instead of CG as well, but as long as they ditch the Clone Wars style CG, I think it still have the potential to be pretty cool looking.
So they want the aesthetics of McQuarrie with the colors of ANH? So far, so good.
I love everything McQuarrie did for Star Wars, so I... I want to be excited. I guess I am excited. But I have no faith/trust in new Star Wars.
Yeah in a perfect world it would be hand drawn. But, more than likely it'll be CG. And considering the era between III and IV were 'dark times' hopefully the series will follow ths tone. Nothing cutesy and fluffy please. One of many thoughts that spring to mind is wether we'll see the transition of the 'Clone Troopers' to the conscripted 'Storm Troopers' of the OT?

I assume you mean "Have never gotten into any anime at all. . . except 1988's Akira".
If not, then you're missing out on action scenes like this... (Taken from the Blu-Ray).
Surely the pinnacle of the hand-drawn animated art form.

Akira the pinnacle of the hand drawn animated art form? Surely that was 'Watership Down?' :)

I'm a big fan of Ralph, it would be cool if an early YT (Falcon) would make an appearance, this is one I'm making:

^This looks stunning!
How much of your falcon is scratchbuilt and how much is modified AMT/ERTL? It looks 100% scratchbuilt to me.
The weathering in that last photo is great work.
It's got a certain elegance in it's forms and shapes that the film Falcon prop doesn't have. I think Luke's "What a piece of junk!" line would seem even more misjudged.

Shit you lot are some SERIOUS fans on this forum. It's been quite an eye opener.

The Thunderbirds look was favored by Lucas, and probably plays into how long it takes to produce a season on time and on budget. Disney is likely going to want to use the existing CW pipeline for this, (unless they really like burning money) so I wouldn't be expecting Pixar level animation for a weekly tv series.
Where were you in '77?
And damn them for putting this on the Disney channel I don't get on my crappy ass cable system.

Interesting that filoni makes a point to mention the "journalistic" palette and color tones of NEW HOPE that aren't even there anymore.

Yeah. Well, gutted.

I know! I heard that and got giddy with excitement.
So THIS is what it feels like to be excited about SW again! I hope they ditch all the bullshit continuity in between and start fresh. Everyone else on the internet is pissing and moaning about some crappy videogame story, blah blah.
Aha! I thought this might become relevant someday. Check out this episode commentary with Dave Filoni for what could be some insight on the upcoming show.
It's not the new trilogy tie-in I'd hoped for but it's the next best thing. Really looking forward to what Dave and the crew put together. Though I do wonder what your guys reactions will be if he decides to bring Ahsoka back. =P
Ahsoka has grown as a character since the CW movie, so I have no issues with her.
If she has kept a low profile, it's more than likely she survived Order 66. Finding out what Anakin has done would be a hell of a lot of emotional baggage to deal with though.
Jar Jar, on the other hand... ;)

To me this whole this whole thing is wonderful news! The aesthetics appeal to me, and I frankly don't mind the CGI at all. I was disappointed to hear about TCW being discontinued, and I still wish it had wrapped up a little better, but this is tremendously exciting news. Of course there will be Jedi and Sith, which doesn't bother me but will bug some, as Vader's extermination of remaining Jedi will likely be an important aspect of the story. But really, this is good news, and I too hope they chuck much of the EU out the window.

Good question, and one I too hope they answer. Clearly the stormtroopers of the OT are not the Aussie clones of the PT.
