Yay! Glad you’re back on this snooker!

He’s hired by Dooku.

I sort of like the idea that red isn’t just the bad guy color. It makes Vader a little more special and in turn makes Kylo an even bigger fanboy.

What colors are you thinking off?

Of all of my problems with the Prequel Trilogy, the only thing that irks me more than the dialogue is the technology. In the original trilogy the hologram of the DS II is the most advanced non-weapon tech we see, yet in the Prequels we see holograms and hovering stuff everywhere. To make the Prequels seem more like they take place many years before the Originals, the Naboo ships will no longer be extremely polished and the display screens will show dots and lines! Instead of making OT tech comply to the prequels, prequel tech will comply to the OT!

In a totalitarian dictatorship such as the Galactic Empire, it is only logical that all non-military technology would decline.

A small band of rebels fighting an evil Empire could hardly be expected to have state of the art military equipment!

As much as I like the idea of varying the color of lightsabers, Maul is not the one to do it with. The red saber suit him all too well.

The thing is that when we see the Empire’s tech in the OT it is significantly worse than it is in the PT. The Empire has like 3 colors max on their computers, most of them being monochromatic. The PT tech is going to be just as good as the rebels have in the OT, implying that they salvaged it from ye olden days.

As for Maul’s saber, I’m leaning on white or orange. Definitely not blue or red.

This is quite intriguing. I really like the idea of tying together the plot of episode 1 with the rest of the films. Especially bringing Dooku into it.

It is a bit weird to me to see the Clone Wars NOT happen as that is THE war Obi-wan and Anakin fought in… And as much as I love continuity, making a the PT tech look less advanced than the OT tech seems silly to me, as the only reason the OT tech looks the way it does is because of when the films were made, all sci-fi looked like that at the time.

Anyway, good luck with the project!

I think the primary problem with The Phantom Menace is the tone. The innocent, childlike tone is inconsistent with the rest of the prequel trilogy, which is a dark, tragic tale.

I would tell the tale this way.

  • Darth Sidious never appears in holographic form. Darth Maul pulls the strings of the Trade Federation.

  • Battle droids slaughter all who resist occupation. They force the rest to work in labor camps, mining plasma to enrich the Federation.

  • Fierce racial tension exists between the humans and the Gungans.

  • C-3PO is Queen Amidala’s protocol droid, not Anakin’s creation.

  • Obi-Wan, not Qui-Gon, discovers Anakin. Obi-Wan is astonished a little boy is able to instinctively use the Force without any training.

  • Anakin is a traumatized child slave. He is already able to use the Force but is not able to control his powers. Anakin’s slave master abuses him and his mother.

  • Obi-Wan orders Anakin to stay on Coruscant, but Anakin disobeys him and stows aboard the ship. Anakin purposefully destroys the droid control ship, saving the day.

  • Yoda reluctantly permits Anakin to be trained out of a fear that without the influence of the Jedi Order he would become more dangerous.

Yeah, I’m trying to make the film as fun as humanly possible.

Also, on that Obi-Wan thing, I wish that that would be possible. With the footage there is no way to make that work.

The rest of the ideas would be great, just not in this edit. If you want something done, you should do it yourself.

JEDIT: Here’s some quick previews before the new thread.

Does anyone have any suggestions for new names for the edit? 😛

Very neat project you have here, Snooker. I shall watch this topic with great interest - yes, I did quote the film.
As for the title, what I’ll be using for my re-write of TPM is “Before the Dark Times,” referring - of course - to Obi-Wan’s line in ANH. If you’d like to, you could use that.

Great previews! I can not wait for more hyperspace!

Also on the titles.

I think Dawn of war is good.

But there will be no clones.

Maybe the name can be used for Episode 2. 😛

Maybe Splinter of the Mind’s Eye

Because STAR WARS.

Splinter of the Mind’s Eye seems to mystical for this movie, I might save that for Episode II.

In the veign of Hal 9000, perhaps an old legends book could provide a title? I’ll start looking.

You could’ve at least acknowledged that Splinter of the Mind’s Eye was one of them.

Personally, I like Dawn of War, but as said earlier, it probably wouldn’t work if the clones don’t show up. Still, if you have Palpatine forming the GAR at the end, it could easily work.

I got Three. “Edge of Disciple”

“Dark forces rising”

And “Dooku: Dead and Loving It”
