I was very unsure about adywan’s decition to give Boba Fett a new, finalised death scene given that he would now be returning very much alive. However, after watching what I just watched I have come to the conclusion that Boba Fett died in 1983 and fully support Adywan making sure he stays that way. Very much looking forward to seeing that happen.

It’s safer to assume that Mandalorian/BOBF Boba is a younger Jango Fett clone who believes he’s the real deal (and the other characters just humor him), kind of like how the Batman in All-Star Batman and Robin is likely a random asshole who found a Batman costume in a dumpster.

Can we leave discussion of Book of Boba Fett out of this thread? Adywan has never been beholden to canon before, his trilogy will be his trilogy.

Indeed we can. My bad :\

Yes, sorry.
On another note something noticed about the throne room duel was how Luke hits his lightsaber off of almost every object in the room and it bounces off all of them without leaving a scratch.
Perhaps adding some sort of saber scaring/glow could be in order.

Yes, this is true for all the lightsaber scenes in TESB:R.

The only thing I wish that could get the ‘Adywan treatment’ in that scene, would be for Luke to be the one whom sends Fett into the Sarlaac.

Looks like Lucas considered it. Sure enough, I never noticed it before. There is a lightsaber slash across the middle of Boba’s Jet Pack when Han bumps it with his stick-

Some of the segments from the deleted storyboard sequence could be incorporated into Boba Fett’s new death scene.

Did the Endor shoot ever happen? Or did Covid mess all that up? I remember seeing the FB post about the B-Wing shoot. That stuff looked awesome.

Also Ady, I sent a PM to you a while back about DTS-HD. I can master the audio tracks, I have the suite. Let me know. Would be an honor to help out on Revisited.

If I remember correctly, ROTJ is the one that’s going to have the most story alterations, correct?

If that’s true, then the story should be darker.

For example, more casualties during the Space and Ground battles.

During the Battle of Yavin in ANH, only three pilots survive in the end, and not a majority of Red Squadron making it back for a happier ending.

The idea of Boba Fett surviving the battle of carkoon is another of those instances where I think George Lucas infamously changed his mind publicly and tried to pretend he “always intended” it to be otherwise. I just don’t believe him, that alongside Han Solo shooting after Greedo misses him at point blank range for no reason… and also the idea that Anakin’s body disappears off of the funeral pyre at the end of Return of the Jedi leaving the “hollow armor behind.” I’m with the Michael Kaminski general impression that while we can’t know what was in GL’s head all those years ago (only he can answer that question, if he remembers), but we can only go by what evidence shows and common sense dictates is most likely.

It’s interesting to imagine what the movies would have been like if Luke and Leia were married, or everyone was a little person or Chewbacca looked more like Greedo, but those weren’t the films that were released, that mesmerized the world and launched this fandom.

He changed his mind, which is fine, but the movie is already made, and pretending what we’re seeing with our own eyes all those years didn’t happen is just annoying. I’m not against remakes, just dishonest revisionism by filmmakers.

I also wouldn’t buy for a second the excuse of “they wouldn’t let me do it/the technology didn’t exist back then” either.

People still like Boba Fett after all this time, despite much disappointment with the usage of the character outside the movies that was obviously done in order to cash in on that curiosity. Good luck! (and welcome back to Adywan)

I’ve always been interested in the idea of someone doing a “better” Special Edition than we got with errors corrected and poor choices removed or smoothed over, and that’s why I’ve followed these projects even though I’ve long since joined that part of the fandom that prefers just a cleaned up, visually and audibly optimized accurate as possible presentation of the original theatrical presentations of the classic films.

Now if he decides that the movies need to blend better with changes introduced in The Mandalorian and its spinoffs (Book of Boba Fett, and the new Obi-Wan series), see my comments on using Rogue One to revise the movies. I dislike that, but it’s not my project, though if my vote counts I say “no.” Using footage to try to supplement something (a nice shot of an X-Wing that you needed as opposed to taking some new creation and shoe-horning it into the old movie) is another thing entirely, in my view. I freely admit my opinion is “out of touch” with a seemingly rising number of fans who prefer these tv shows to the movies, or see the classic films as antiquated or even embarrassing compared to later installments but I’m happy to disagree with them.

Now that Dave Prowse (R.I.P) has passed away, if that footage of him in his elder years having the Vader mask removed from his face on camera was ever released, it would be neat to see THAT inserted into the movie, but at the same time I’d still cling to the version I grew up watching, from 1983 without the change, just as it lacked the Hayden cameo in ghostly form after.

I don’t know much of the details of ROTJ:R, but I did feel a bit disappointed with the current information.

I grew up watching the Prequel + Original Trilogy. And, I always thought, Return of the Jedi was the most proper ending to the Skywalker Saga, especially since the Yub Nub Celebration song was swapped for the Victory Celebration song in the Special Edition; (I am sorry if I upset anyone who adore the Yub Nub song). But, as from what I’m reading so far, it seems as if ROTJ:R is going to be altered story-wise by a considerable extent. As for, it will be in favor of being a connection to The Force Awakens.

I wish there was some way to have a version where, ROTJ is the definitive ending, where the Sequel Trilogy doesn’t occur after that. (For purists) With two tracks, so one has the Yub Nub Celebration song, while the other has the Victory Celebration song.

Ady, if you read this post, you don’t have to go for this suggestion.

The “Luke on his own by the funeral pyre” ending was only and idea, which was dropped shortly after. The ending to ROTJ:R will be the 1983 version of the film. No planet montage, no Hayden and no Victory Celebration. I’m not sure where you get the impression that ROTJ is being drastically altered story wise. The only thing remotely like that is the additions to the space and ground battles. The Skywalker saga is 9 films, like it or not. I like the sequel trilogy so if i want to connect anything to that, then i will. I added the TFA bunker in ESB:R. I hate the prequels, but i still have connections to those added in my edits, so why not the sequels? And there won’t be 2 audio tracks for ROTJ. I really dislike the Victor Celebration music, even more when realising its just copy of a piece of music that was used as a rough guide from a Native American mini-series. I’ve always felt since 1997 that it sounds so out of place in the film, and now i know why

For the scene when Luke tells Leia that she’s his sister, are you still going to change it to her just being shocked and confused at what she just heard instead of saying “I know. Somehow, I’ve always known”?

I also take it that this means Vader’s line won’t be changed from “Obi-Wan once thought as you do” to Your mother once thought as you do”.

Just a few suggestions if you are open to them:

  • Boba Fett, depending on how it goes, potentially use Hal9000’s alternate jetpack scream and “death” audio with Temuera Morrison. It sounds a lot less cartoony than the original '83 version.
  • Add the Ghost from Rebels to the space battle
  • Edit in the door for Palpatine’s vault in the throne room, the one Rey goes in to get the Wayfinder in Episode IX
  • Remove the shockwave from Death Star II (not sure if already planned) and alter the explosion so it appears that Death Star II is intact enough to be what is in Episode IX
  • Smooth the original jump cut for where the celebration scenes were inserted in '97

The Skywalker Saga:
I · II · III · IV · V · VI · VII · VIII · IX
This is the way.

About the ending celebration, have you considered using a piece of music for that scene that isn’t Yub Nub or Victory Celebration? I understand why you feel that Victory Celebration is out of place with the usual style of John Williams’ score, but Yub Nub is even more out of place in my opinion: Way too cheesy and kiddie-feeling for what’s supposed to be a heartfelt ending.

My personal suggestion would be using a non-diegetic piece of orchestral music, preferably something written by John Williams. The shots of the Ewoks playing instruments would be cut out, and some extra shots from the SE ending could be added to make up for those cuts. Someone on this site already did a test of syncing the celebration up to the “Luke and Leia” theme, and it worked pretty well.

Just a suggestion though: not trying to tell you how to make your edit. If you like Yub Nub, that’s fine.

What about the concert/extended version of the Throne Room track? I once saw an edit on Youtube that incorporated it into ROTJ SE’s ending and thought it worked pretty well.

Um I am a bit confused does anyone know what Ady means by added The Force Awaken bunker to EP V? I couldn’t find anything in the ot,com posts and I’m not sure what bunker it is refering to.

It’s the bunker in the Millennium Falcon that Finn and Rey are hiding in when Han first shows up. I didn’t realize that Ady added it to Revisited either.

If I had the time, I’d consider trying to do a comprehensive visual difference guide. I just love how I’m still discovering ESB:R changes even five years after it came out.
