I just watched "Labrynth" and the sequence where the puppet-monsters took off their heads. It was effects by ILM using men in black velvelt suits and old school double exposures and optical matting, but it got me  thinking about Yoda.

Imagine for a moment, if in AOTC, instead of a CGI Yoda, we had a fully realized puppet capable of all sorts of amazing things the original puppet was not capable of, because ILM would digitally erase puppeteers from the frame!

Yoda could be simultaneously manipulated from below, above, and boths sides, allowing an unimaginable range of movement and expression for a puppet, while keeping that intrinsic heart and reality a puppet carries.

If only.

Actually, that was a British fx house. ILM just did the matte paintings for the film.

I wouldn't expect anyone to post pictures and clips, but I'm sure you're just sitting there ready to explode when someone brings up something. :-D

Well, sure there are times one would like to answer things but must refrain from doing so, I could of course talk about said subject from a certain point of view..but Adywan would still know :P

It's not so bad for me because most of my clip you have already in some form seen or know about.

I have no idea what clip you got from the movie m8..who knows perhaps it's not even in the work print yet...! :o

The name you're looking for is "Henson", as in Muppets.

Vaderios.....you come up with some cool junk!! Not all of it is obviously just right for Ady's Edit, but most of it is so cool nonetheless! I wish you would provide a way for us to download or link us to your screenshots so that we could use them as wallpaper or just have them around to check out from time to time. Some of those Bespin shots, and the clarity and uniqueness of a lot of the others would just be great to have as a Star Wars fan.

On a different note....never noticed the Prom dress on Vader in that Hoth entry shot? Maybe Ady could add some fishnet stockings to go with the skirt? Peace....

^^ Would have be Sith-Black fishnet stockings.

I stand corrected. Regardless, that technique with digital technology instead of opitcal used to remove the puppeteers could still be used to enhance puppeteering, instead of try to replace it.

DoubleO's right :D

Your 'junk' and Adywan's updates on ESB:R are the only reasons why a lot of us even come here every day.

No, it's not. Henson did the characters. I'm talking about the visual effects.

One thing that annoys me a bit about when Vader enters Echo Base.   His helmet seems wierd... like extra short or something.  It's hard to explain.

Actually you have absolutely right. The helmet of vader, changes all the time. The one you pointed as short is the one that when he turns his head to the right direction, right?. Well that helmet supposed to be the first helmet to be in production and its from ANH as well. the mask and the helmet is glued together so there is no way to be separated. but after that they rethink the length of the helmet:)

Nice mockup there Bingo :)

-Angel

Thanks for the link.  The shortness in that one shot is really annoying, though.  I don't know what bugs me about it, it just doesn't look right, I guess.  Adywan, you couldn't do anything to fix the helmet in that scene, could you?

Is that not the worst photo of Vader you've ever seen? The helmet is crooked and the chest plate is... completely wrong.

It's just Vader's version of a bad hair day.

I am very excited to see the Adywan version of ESB! So I periodically check. And check. And check. Why no comments? Because I want to see the same quality of work he did w ANH. So I'm giving some applause to the artist here, and staying the hell out of his way. Keep it up!!!!!

Maybe it's not an error... perhaps Vader just came back from the hairdresser's and got a bob ;)

BTW, nice touch up Angel.

That is SOOOO much better.  That shot has bugged me for so many years now, that even just a fixed picture is awesome.  Thanks!!!  Now if Adywan can do that, I'd not only be very impressed (because I have no idea how the above image was even done), but also very happy! lol

The helmet has already been fixed. It was a nightmare to do in motion but i managed to pull it off in the end (after tearing most of my hair out. lol)

My brain hurts at the idea of doing ANYTHING frame-by-frame, let alone staring at Vader for hours to: stabilize his helmet on the vane, give him a neck in his chamber, lengthen his dome in the base, and I'm sure there's other imperfections that you've already spent days fixing that no one will notice unless they see it side by side.

Who is this dedicated?  Adywan, I suppose.

Amazing!!! Yet another subtle hint of the great things that awaits us.

(Cannot imagine how you even pulled that one of.)
