I know Adywan wants to improve on this effect somewhat (and I'm sure it will be great), but I'm kinda hoping the replacement will be a similar FULL-length shot, somewhat resembling this existing movement and angle.

And thanks for that belly laugh young Docta Nick....

I translated most of it, but deleted the file before I posted it anywhere.  Maybe I only found the few times you did put your kids' names in there, but I did see them often enough that I could read them without figuring it out.  I was going to post screenshots with the translations written over them, but it was getting too tedious.  I'm sure I'll try again someday.  Heck, I've got the ISO here, I'll probably do it today.

*sigh*

I had to.

Now the question remains: who's the more nerdy, the nerd, or the nerd who follows him? :)  Nice translations 005.

Hope it's not too off-topic but someone posted this nice poster design a while ago (full credit to the original artist but I can't find the original posting) but it looked took 'Photoshop-ish'. So I applied some filters to make it looke more like a painting.

My only complaint is that the Vader helmet is the horrible symetrical ROTS version. The ESB Vader helmet is FAR superior :)

Alternative attempt.

LOL. For a second there it looked like Vader had a collar and it was sticking up. He looked like Darth Pimp.

First Rule of the Photoshop basics. Never use pure known filters.

Holy Potato! I loved the symmetrical helmet! It is far superior from all the others IMO.

nice posters there, a bit colorful/rainbow though.

As for the Hologram thing, Ady said he fix it.

Let me guess this straight, you'd rather have a lopsided helmet with mistakes in it becuase they couldn't make a symetrical one in the beforetime than one that was constructed with superior techniques and doesnt look like it was made in a garage??

Nahh, just one that looks mildly intimidating and/or imposing. The NEW & IMPROVED Vader Helmet is neither. The faceplate is too small and the dome is too large. This makes it look less like it belongs to the actual villain Darth Vader, and more like a little kid's Halloween Darth Vader costume.

Plus, there's the insuperable psychological connection between the symetrical Vader and the incongruous sounds of James Earl Jones uttering the lines, "Where is Pame? Is she...allright?" and, of course, the infamous, "NOOOOOOOOOO!!" I shudder to think of it, and any reminder of that travesty of a scene makes me want to vomit. Give me the mysterious, imposing, frightening OT Vader over the shiny, scrawny, too-short, temper-tantrum-throwing Vader of ROTS any day.

Who cares if the helmet is symmetrical or not? Hayden still looks like Darth Mittens in that outfit.

Just because the new one was made with "superior techniques" doesn't mean it's better.  I happen to think it looks like shit, and agree that the ESB helmet was the best in all 4 films that feature Vader.  SW's looks a little strange to me somehow (it feels a little small in some scenes), and ROTJ's was *too* shiny and reflective.  But ESB had a perfect balance of all of those.

ROTS's looks, as someone else mentioned, like it was made by a fan for a Halloween costume.

If anyone ever finds a good shot of the Falcon's dash, perhaps they have this picture taped to it?

Or in Luke's X-Wing. Hey, they didn't know yet. ;)

Later...

BEN: ...That is the reason why
your sister remains safely anonymous.

LUKE: Leia! Leia is my sister.

BEN: Your insight serves you well. Bury your

LUKE: (interrupts) Hold that thought! (runs to X-Wing to hide a certain photograph)

I have no idea how either was made... but the ROTS mask just looked wrong somehow.

i've never really noticed a difference. the only difference i did notice was the ANH version of the helmet. otherwise, it seemed fine.

Yeah, can't stand the ROTS helmet. I actually like the SW Vader the best, I dunno why maybe it's the red lenses. =P Did you know David Prowse wanted to reprise the role for ROTS but ol' Lucas decided to let Hayden don the suit.

So does anyone wanna take up the idea I had before, about the Falcon dashboard monitor displaying Bespin, and make it better than that ragged attempt I got on youtube?? I'd love to see a better mockup, if possible!

This is the start of an idea that came to me in a vision. I know some people are against cutting away from seeing the love-birds to see a display of some sort, so I came up with a cool compromise.

you could move the globe here
, or do the "cantina-izing" and shift their eye line

The blue 'globe' is seen turning slightly, and I can make it any color.

Obviously it's pretty simple/lame right now, so any suggestions/comments are welcome/appreciated

I like it; I agree that you can move the globe more to the left to match both Han's and Leia's eye line, which would be a little left of Leia's hands.  You would probably have to add some of that "scratchy static" the OT holograms had too.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I think its time we got this thread back on target. Hey Ady are you gonna add more Snow walkers to the battle of Hoth?.....Just kidding.

Back on track.

If you notice the scene with the snowspeeders searching luke and han in some cases the fly animation dont match with the model movement. There some specific spots that need adjustments. (f.e. the background is turning for 2 seconds and the speeder goes straight.---> again this is camera movement.)

A problem I see with this is that in THIS particular mockup, even though the eyelines do not match up with the hologram, the GLOW matches up in the picture. If the hologram is to be moved, then the glow on Leia's face needs to match better with the new angle.

Still, I'd rather see a display, but thats just me!

Personally I don't think the scene needs it but the mockup idea could be done by having Han looking at the planet and Leia reading the small print, something like (but as always better) this :

Lando system?
