I seem to always miss the first drafts.  I would love the link to the AVI of the first draft Yoda for my personal archive.  I'm also still looking for the AVI of the first draft of the teaser trailer.

I just watched the final draft now.  And again.

Wow.  I love the Yoda puppet.  Always have.  I think with the subtle tweaks you've added here you're effectively bridging the gap between the puppet and the way-too-emotive CG Yoda.  He looks more like he's forming the words now, and I get shivers now when he says "You will be.  You will be." as I should have had every time.

I think my final test will be to show my wife to see if she even notices something amiss.  She's a Star Wars fan (not sure where that puts us then; fanatics?), so she's seen the originals enough, but I would use her as the judge as how much is too much.

EDIT: Sent my wife the YouTube link at random.  She wrote back:

"wow that looks great!  it doesnt look tweaked at all, natural. nice!"

So there you go.

As for Yoda's wobbly ears, I also recall them specifically mentioning in the AoftC bonus features that they tried to replicate it in the CG model.  So by that logic, its officially not a limitation of the puppet, but a character trait of Yoda.

Ah, that's good then.  I guess I didn't recall that detail on the prequel one, as I'd 'switched off' a bit after The Phantom Menace...  Sure hope George puts out the CGI replacement instead of the puppet on the inevitable next re-release of TPM, before Ady gets round to that one though!

HOLY SHIT, ADY.

That Yoda clip is AMAZING!! Perfect mouth movements, eye blinks and even a few furrowed brows! Perfectly subtle! Yoda looks convincingly alive now!

Well I thought the Yoda footage was well done. Subtle blinks and facial movements brings the character even more to life now. I'd like to see something done with the eyes - make them look moist perhaps and less glassy?

As for Yoda's wobbling ears when he walks, I'd expect a certain amount of wobbling due to the size of them! Elephant have large ears which have a constant movement when they're on the move. Granted it's not wobble on the magnitude of Yoda's but it's difficult to keep those ears still! IF the animators tried to replicate the wobble on the CG puppet, then the wobble has been accepted as a character trait - it does mean that no work needs to be done to eliminate it...

The following is included tongue-in-cheek...it's not meant to cause offense or upset anyone...After all, ANH:R had a fair few debates and arguments running through it too! I'd guess it does show how much we care about this being more 'perfect' than it already is!

*What new debates will be added to the rollcall of scum and villainy? Who will be the next to 'want the impossible'...

The green laser debate...

The AT-ATs and the number/colour of...

The grey/blue TIE Fighters...

The Taun-taun flick/breathing...

The Yoda's wobbling ears...

Tune in next time - same time same Jedi channel...*

That is some amazing work on Yoda Ady, just perfect.

Just a last comment on the whole Yoda thing from me.  I remember when I first read that a 'younger' Yoda design was going to be making an appearance in the then upcoming 'The Phantom Menace' prequel, thinking this would be a fantastic thing, considering he'd been such a great character.  I then remember wondering how he would turn out...and remember coming across this shot of the new Yoda sculpt, which I thought looked rather neat and badass -   http://www.dinocafe.com/gaz/Yoda.jpg

Then I eventually saw the version that ended up in the movie...and wondered what the hell happened to the look of the sculpt I'd previously seen! -   http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Pines/4928/tpm-yoda4.jpg

At least the follow-up CGI design looks like it could probably age into the original classic look, thankfully.

And Adywan's tweaked Yoda looks to be the best of all.  Speaking of 'badass' Yodas, check these out, lol. -

"Darth Yoda" has a goatee, like its from the "Mirror, Mirror" Star Wars universe.  That's awesome.

I can confirm that the CGI yoda was made to have the ear wobble. I remember watching the same documentary, and they said that the artists originally made the CGI character perfect, the wobble fixed, expressions, etc. However, when they watched the scenes, it just didn't look like Yoda. They had the artists go back and add in the wobble so it looked more like the Yoda everyone knows. I say keep it in the movie. :D

Hey, is the torrent I found of the Episode V 1997 Special Edition colour corrected by Ady actually real? While I am very interested in this project, I would still like to have a colour corrected version to tide me over in the mean time. But I have it downloaded, and I try to shrink with DVDShrink and it won't let me, something about a UDF File system error.

it is real but it isn't a standard DVD so DVDshrink won't work with it. It is a AVCHD which is the hi-def 1080p version playable in the PS3 & bluray players and not playable in standard dvd players. It uses the udf 2.50 filesystem so you neeed the driver installed to be able to browse the disc

Adywan, you continue to surpass my highest expectations with this project. I was content with the first draft of the Yoda tweaks, but with the final version, you've improved perfection. The eye-blinks are brilliant, and perfectly timed/placed so as to look natural. Kudos, sir.

Appetite whetted, I await eagerly the next item you Adywan-ize. :)

The beauty of that clip is that, just like ANH:R, if you didn't know what to look for, you'd never know anything was changed.

I mean that in a good way.

But just for the sake of comparison, could you post it as one of those top/bottom before/after versions?

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Adding the shaky ears to Yoda for AotC was one of the best additions in that movie. I know I was happy to see it. Looked so much more like the "real" Yoda, not that ugly thing from TPM! :p

TPM yoda looked nothing like the real yoda. but yea, yoda's ears were the best additions. especially at the end of AOTC when yoda's ears perk up and then down when he tells obi-wan the clone wars has begun.

I see, and if I install the driver is it possible to shrink it down to a single layer dvd size?

And also great work by the way, can't wait until you get it done Ady! But also take your time, as A New Hope was brilliant and we should all hope this to follow it's success.

I had to chime in and also give my praise Adywan to your beautiful tweak of Yoda.  You gave the puppet just the right amount of tinkering without going overboard.  His eyes, nose, mouth, and ears all look absolutely superb.  Job well done.

Just saw watched both versions of the yoda tweak. Incredible work ady! I think the second version is the best.

I do have a little request on the hoth battle. Could you give the smaller guns on the side of the head of the AT-AT's a little action. They never fire the whole time if I recall.

Good point.  Maybe they're green.  ;)

Don't even start :P

I like new clip Ady. Good job on making the brows move a bit.

I can't remember if you've answered this, but are you planning on doing something about Yoda's lazy eye?
