We must be delicate with the battle of the hoth, that's all I have to say.

Here is some changes that would "possibly" work. Out of order!

1.As the speeders come flying in, maybe have that turning turrent fire once.

2.Lets not have like a 10 more AT ATs, maybe 2 or 3 in the distance depending on shots. With an added Snow AT-ST( I say this because they are a diffrent version.)

3.Have the rebels in the begining pour out more fire power, change a few of their bolts to green.(just a few.

3.When AT lasers hit the snow, can we have some black burn marks.

Smoother motion for ATs, not silky smooth, just less clay like.

4. I read that the red tint for Veers At AT is foward vistlization targeting, for one shot in the copit, how bout some graphics.

And thers more stuff I don't feel like talking about, but this is just some idea cookies through into the bowl. Adywan has his own cookies.

Bonne Chance!

I haven't posted much here although I do enjoy the hangout and chatter.

However I feel I must throw in on the "AT-AT/SnowSpeeder" crushing.

I believe Ady is very much correct in that Empire is damn near perfect,But this particular scene REALLY needs a do over .

You can CLEARLY tell the "giant-prop AT-AT foot" is a cleverly disguised  auto yard magnet dropped from a crane onto the prop Snowspeeder.

It SHOULD crush the speeder canopy and push further into the metal as the body of the speeder bends/sinks into the snow and the little tabs on the foot of the AT-AT push back against the "curling" metal as the foot falls and raises in one smooth motion, keeping the speeder's metal body from "sticking" to the footpad of such a heavy machine.

But what happens in the film just isn't convincing, It LOOKS like a "cleverly disguised auto yard magnet dropped from a crane onto a prop Snowspeeder" which doesn't react like metal but wood.

Also as shown in my description I feel it is precisely what those "tabs" were designed to do as the Quadra-ped tanks stomped across the battlefield stepping in wreckage.

Oh and just for the hellovit Here's the closest I ever got to a snowspeeder.

That's a sweet speeder....Hey Adywan.......did you see my post about possibly updating the view screen in vaders chamber, that cool place where he meditates and takes his helmet off.....that screen looks very 70's Star Trek.....Peace...

4. Shortened Wampa scene

Honestly, I don't understand the dislike for the new wampa scene. I know the argument for less is more being scarier, but come on, it's Star Wars, not SAW.

And Lucas would've had it in there in 1980 if he could. Ironically, the bad wampa shot is when we first see it hit Luke and kill the tauntaun.

That's the shot that should be removed.

Show just the claw hitting Luke and killing the tauntaun. Wait till the cave to actually see the creature.

If one looks at it logically, the wampa would definitely take both the tauntaun and Luke. There's no way a large meal like that would be passed up in such a frozen wasteland.

So, seeing the wampa eating the tauntaun makes perfect sense.

The only bad shot in that scene is when the wampa starts to slower lumber toward Luke after it stands up from its crouch. In the next shot from the OUT, it has claws raised and is moving very fast.

That makes no sense. Lose that one shot and the scene is perfect, especially if you add burn marks to the wampa's fur, add a little smoke to the wound, and correct the timing of Luke's lightsaber deactivating.

“Anakin had those qualities so rarely seen, exuding an unmistakable confidence and yet still able to touch one’s heart in simply knowing how he was so flawed… wounded.”

I actually completely agree, and I hate almost all the SE additions.

No, it's probably outside one of the Star Tours.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

HA!

No It was at the very very depressing MGM Orlando Fla tour and all these wonderful old props and film history are left to die in vines and weeds and the bleaching Florida sun.

After Disney closed the animation studio there ALL the film production left, But they still run the tour and tell you all the neat stuff that used to be there as the Jackass driving the tram tears ass around the backlots so fast you can't hardly get any good shots...and I'm a Photographer!

There are other cool things wasting away out there Roy Scheiders' Blue Thunder is there as is The Solar powered van Rick Moranis drove around in Honey I Blew Up the Kid

I wonder what a snowspeeder was doing at MGM? Wouldn't 20th Century FOX make sense? In case ADYWAN missed my question......what do you think about trying to fix that 60's-70's Star Trek view screen in Vader's chamber place?

On the other hand....

I always personally loved that first 'unexpected' scare of the sudden appearance of a roaring Wampa's face popping up into the frame near the beginning, and would not like to see it omitted from Adywan's edit....especially since that first version has got the best-designed facial features as far as I'm concerned....

Yes, it makes perfect sense for the Taun-Taun to have been eaten....but I certainly don't think that Luke's Taun-Taun was left behind just because we only see Luke being dragged behind the Wampa onscreen.  Surely even the mighty Wampa would have struggled to drag both Luke and the heavy Taun-Taun along to it's ice-cave at the same time, in one trip....

While it could be said (and it has been previously) that there is also the possibility that there was more than one Wampa around to share the load....I always thought that Luke had been 'hung up for another time', while the Wampa (or Wampa's) ate the Taun-Taun first, which had been brought back secondly....

As far as which SE shots should be kept or removed, or whether the sequence looked better with none of the new shots, and should just revert back to the minimal original editing and pacing, there seems to be wildly differing opinions, and no consensus unfortunately.  There are a few combinations that would look okay (if they didn't linger so long), but hopefully we'll like Adywan's eventual decision, whatever it turns out to be, even if it reverts to the exact original editing.

Hey, I'm just looking forward to the re-colouring! :)

Ok, since we're on the Wampa scene again, here's a shot for shot comparison I made between the GOUT and SE.  They're not frame sync accurate, but enough to tell which shot is which.

Feel free to suggest your own shot lists for Ady's approval.

Minor detail - shot 7b is either a repeat of part of shot 7 or the end half of shot 7 after 7a was inserted...not sure which.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

As far as I remember, that (along with the AT-AT, skiff and Ewok Village) was not screen used.  Just props to display infront of the ride.  Though I think they did have the real holo table somewhere else in the park.

Incorrect.  There was a speeder on the backlot tour...along with some other props.  I have a different picture of it from the 1990's. I have to find it somewhere.

To confirm, there is an AT-AT outside the ride along with an Ewok village but these weren't unused screen props but purpose built to hide the wiring, lighting feeds, speakers, etc leading into the ride. On the backlot tour, there is a Sand Skiff as well as a Snowspeeder and possibly another prop from the movies.

@Gavin, Lucasfilm made a deal with Disney for the Star Tours ride which gave them permission to have various props (not to mention the great Indiana Jones Experience) at their parks. As there isn't a Fox park except in Australia, the studio is represented in both Disney Studios and Universal Studios' theme parks. As far as I know in any case...feel free to correct if I am wrong!

For the Wampa cave scene, I think that all the SE shots should be removed (but something should be done about the movement of the Wampa when we see it briefly move past the cave wall in the GOUT; too puppet-like/fake) APART from the very last SE Wampa shot after Luke slices its arm off, as it presents a nice pay off after the intrigue and suspense and build up in the cave - brings about resolution. By keeping in the last SE shot, we have the best of both worlds, and the scene contains balance (introduction, build-up/development, conclusion).

And I can't wait to see all the Wampa shots unified so that it actually looks like the one and the same creature - Adywan's CG horns that he added to the initial Wampa scene outside of the cave looked great, I thought.

Also, something which I haven't really seen mentioned, but is Adywan planning on fixing the motion of Luke's X-Wing as Yoda force-levitates it out of the swamp and onto the ground? When we see the nose of the X-Wing touch down, just as Luke pats it with his hand, it looks very much like someone off screen just plopped down a big plastic prop - maybe if the nose buckled, dropped a little and then raised again, it wouldn't look so fake.
