Shouldn't all this go in the BD thread?

BTW, I agree, buy them or not, that depends on your own morals/sense of right and wrong, but if you're not, shut up about it, geez.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Whether or not you ACTUALLY buy them is up to you - but don't start openly encourage people to NOT buy the Blu-ray and then say how you are going to give the money you were going to give to Lucas, to adywan. It's just a bad idea all around. If you don't want to buy the Blu-ray and still get ady's HD version, that's up to your own morality, but again, don't go around boasting that.

Iceberg of off-topic, right ahead!

Oh, yeah, a Titanic reference. That just happened.

It's not at all off topic. We're discussing the legality behind owning ESB:R in HD.

Relax, I'm just joshing around. I do feel that considerable negative attention (by all means guys, post some more negative reviews for something you have no intention of owning, for a reason that really has no bearing on the quality of the set, and then BRAG ABOUT IT) given to a place like this will be it's undoing.

Strictly speaking, downloading any fan edit is illegal, no matter what official discs you've bought.

However, our forum rules state:

Jay said:

As far as this community is concerned, you should own the official retail release of a fan edit's source material if it is possible to do so. Content producers deserve to be compensated, so if you don't own the retail release (if available), you have no business possessing a fan edit.

If ESB:R is sourced from the BD, you must legitimately purchase the retail release. I trust this is clear.

question:

8. Removing of all the SE shots of Vader's shuttle leaving Bespin and docking with the Executor.

why is there a problem with this scene?

Also, I'd like the 'Lukes vision' idea very much, too bad it isn't coming in

answer:

Ruins the pacing and we dont need to see where vader is going. The music cuts also are terrible.

Bring my shuttle line have everything in contex

Agreed, dude. Do not give fanediting a bad name and a harder time with the studios just because you think Lucas is a jerk. This is what will get us in trouble. You want to download a fanedit, you buy the original. Then nobody is losing any money over our hobby.

Stop it. Stop it now.

I can't see why a SW fan wouldn't want to own the blu-ray set with all the extras it has.

But anyway...I'm buying mine later today and happily so.

Is ady even using the BD as his source?  Considering when he started the edit, I assumed he was using the HDTV broadcasts, and if that's the case there would be no need to buy the Blu in order to download this once it's ready.

I really don't see this getting shut down because a few people say they aren't going to buy the Blu and donate to adywan instead.

And 24hrs after recording them, it's illegal to still be in possession of them. Just buy the Blu-rays...

Yeah, thats bullshit. As long as they stay in the DVR device and not ripped from the unit, it is legal to do. I record movies on my COX HD DVR device ( that I'm paying monthly for ) all the time. If it was illegal then my local cox cable supplier would not be renting them to their customers.

If the Admin here demand that we own the blurays to have adys edit then thats different. I would simply get them.

For me I have no intention of currently buying the Blu-Rays (with the possible exception ironically of the Phantom Menace for CGI Yoda), however if Ady, did do an edit of them, I would purchase the Blu-Rays so I could watch his edits with a clear conscience.... Which at least to me also seems to be what OT would promote (i.e. owning the retail version of the edit before you watch them).

Yes, and no one is saying you have to buy them TODAY from your local retailer. I'm boycotting giving Lucas any more money, I'm not deluded that I will never own the Blu-rays, I'm just going to buy it used or get it as a gift. I know, its a lame boycott, but it's still a stand I'm going to make, which I think will make a huge difference to my friends who know me and my history with Star Wars.

I applaud people who are sticking to their principles by not buying the blu-rays (yet) and putting their money where they want to, just as I'm fine with people who really want them now doing what they want to do.

As I said on the blu-Ray thread there are other options for purchasing those versions (like charity shops) should getting them be necessary to view any of the Revisited series.

That's what I'm going to be doing.

ESB:R Isn't going to be out for what? A rough estimate of 8-10 months at the earliest. I'll begin to look for used sets or used individual discs early-mid next year.

Whatever you people plan to do, I think the point here is don't frakking make it so obvious.

For one, you may think you're "winning points" with he ot community announcing stuff like that. Actually as you can see, it's the opposite.

And Second, if these kinds of posts become more and more, I do think nothing good would come from it. it could only cause trouble in the long term.

Owning the original release before getting ANY fan edit is a question of principal. Everyone should own it to d/l in good conscience as was mentioned. That DOES NOT mean give your money to Lucas, be smart, buy it in a few months, used.

It's not about the decision of buying the set or not. I promise you I respect both sides and understand that some people just have to have it now, fine. I used to be like that, until 2004.

What I'm completely against is being vocal about not buying the set and instead giving the money to the project.

Make no mistake, imo, IT'S FINE IF YOU DO THAT, but just keep it to yourself. Otherwise high powers may take notice. That's all I'm saying, and referring to no one in particular here or in the BD thread.

It's just that what can be considered a "good deed" could actually cause trouble if you scream about it. I know people doing this are doing it for the greater good, just shhhh!

I hope you folks haven't forgot that Empire: Revisited is only going as far as 720p in resolution. A new hope: Revisited ( the second version ) is only going as far as 720p also when Ady gets to it. I think Ady said Jedi was going to be 720p also but I'm not for sure. The official Blu-rays are all 1080p. Remember that when you spend all that money just to own empire revisited. They way I see it, I already have enough of starwars on video to qualify me to have a copy of Adys edit. I have the unaltered original trilogy on VHS and Laser Disc. I have the Special Editions on VHS and Laser Disc. I have the 2004 dvd's and the prequel dvds. I also have The Phantom Menace VHS.  Buying the Blu-rays does nothing for me.

The Facebook event is here, but donations are welcome at the aforementioned site.

Happily donated what I would have paid for the blu-rays, to the Revisited project! :)

Thank you very much for your donation TB5918:) Most kind !
