An idea for having the MF a bit more distinctive in the fogs (aka like the ANH deathstar/MF matte)

Plus the dish is more clear now

I was watching it and suddenly, my sound cut out. I restarted the video and still no sound. Checked other YouTube videos and...no sound. Uh...??? Winamp is fine, as is VLC, so I'm hoping it's just some weird temporary glitch at YouTube...

I don't know if everyone noticed (I didn't), but Ady made the TIEs blue again, and confirmed on Facebook that not only will all the TIEs be the proper shade of blue in ESBR and RotJR, but he will be coloring the TIEs in ANHRHD! He also mentioned that the Death Star walls won't be so grey, so those of you that didn't care for that will be pleased.

And what is the real reason for this?

All hail the CG TIEs that made and will make these shots look great.

I'm curious as to the logic behind this. Is it because it's easier to color ANH than to color ESB & ROTJ (the ROTJ battle, for example...) or is it because everything grey makes it a little more lifeless than it needs to be?

The lifelessness. Ady was tired of looking at black and white space shots!

ah, the biggest problem with what i call the "digital generation". Everything has to be colourful all the time and sometimes to the point of over saturation. A main reason why much of today's effect and films just looks terrible and fake. The OT always had that monochromatic look to it. The colours were never over the top and in your face. The space scenes were always drab with flashes of colour here and there during battles and it worked. Now look at the PT and almost every shot has to be colourful and we all know how much that didn't work. This is one reason i think they added the blue tint to the OT (Ep's 4 & 5 especially) to remove that monochromatic look so it seemed to  be as colourful as the PT. Jedi was a little more colourful than the first 2 so maybe that's why the tint was hardly present in that movie.

You know, i just knew you would have to come in and post something like that even though this has nothing to do with why the TIEs are now blue.  Actually the TIEs have only a subtle tint of blue in the latest version (the video posted is an earlier video before the final colour of the TIEs was finalised). The true colour of the TIEs now is the light grey/blue to match the original colour of the models. Maybe you should actually have read what i wrote before trying to make out i have now contradicted myself.

And it also has nothing to do with CG being used. The reason why i decided to add the subtle tint to the TIEs was because some scenes became too colourless almost like you were watching a black and white film. Now this is all down to the problems with the colour of the 2004 editions. Removing the tint also takes out the subtle tints that should be there (also they were lost because of the added colour tint). There is a huge difference between adding a subtle hint of colour and over the top oversaturated colouring like most of the crappy CG laden films tend to do. In some shots the grey TIEs got lost, especially when they were in front of a stardestroyer

As you can see the final colouring of the TIE's is very subtle and not the oversaturated blue of the originals:

Im on your side actually :)

I love and i find creative someone can change his mind. You always gave the impression that you do the CC ignoring the global illumination because the removal of the tint makes the things have their colors individual but not reflect any of their surroundings. But that is just the impression and not the real deal. It good to see that more color is actually is in the edit an i expect that the fighters or any other ships will be realistically colored when they interact with their surroundings.

I have notice that before but there are some camera projection artifacts/hard edges on the star destroyer(wrong geometry i can assume) if you can blur the edges a bit it should be unnoticable.

Note: It would be neat to add a small bridge lights to the SD. most for fan service. They have a nice shape

I misunderstood your reasons for posting an old quote of mine, so i'm sorry for that.

Also, which hard edges do you mean?

No worries mate :)

Especially in 720p its noticeable but at this part most. Geometry seems to create a hard edge that collides with the generally blury surface of the SD.

In motion everything seems more clear.

That's pretty much how they look in the youtube clip.

I don't know... I know it's your edit, so the worst I can do is gripe, but I guess it's the thought of going back and revising A NEW HOPE that is buggin' me more than anything.

You have this clip with the grey TIEs, and I never thought they blended in so much that I couldn't see them.  Same thing with the first fleet shot (since they're flitting in and out anyways, there's never really a chance for them to disappear amongst the SDs, as the film edits are every few seconds already).

I still wish they were a bit more grey than blue... darker, maybe, but like the Enterprise from MOTION PICTURE blue grey.  The "blue" blue TIEs always came across as bad matte effects due to the heavy or blatant nature of the coloring.

I know it's a slight change, but still, an example of just making them a bit more grey (or just a darker grey)...

I never noticed the blue TIEs because my toy was bright white! Once it was pointed out to me, I figured that they should all be grey, for continuity's sake. I really like the blue shade they should be though...

I thought efforts to color the ANH TIEs weren't successful? And do you have to recolor the TIEs you already desaturated, or did you go back to the base and tweak it?
