I always vow not to click on final teasers for these projects, save spoiling surprises for myself. Just....Could....Not....Resist this time!

Resistance is futile.

Sorry.  Wrong franchise.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

I guess if there is one thing to add/note, I noticed that the ion cannon is firing as the transport ships are lifting off.  Should we see a glimpse of the blue ion beam behind them or after the bigger one starts to move to the right of the ion cannon (as its in mid-recoil from a shot)?  I'm guessing it's a mostly-finished shot?

You have to see the whole sequence to see what's actually happening. The Ion cannon is only powering up and getting into position as the transports leave

Uhh, but the gun is recoiling.  If the gun was moving into position, the gun barrel wouldn't be snapping back the same way it does when you see it actually shoot.  In fact, wouldn't the entire ball turret be moving if it was prepping for a shot?

it isn't recoiling. The gun is coming out from inside the ball and the ball is moving into place. In the firing shot earlier in the movie you can see that the gun comes from inside the ball before it takes it's first shot. Like i said all this is clear when you see the whole sequence

Just wanna say that the trailer looks really great. Always nice with a comparison  to see all the little details that I missed. Very impressed with everything and can't wait to see the completed thing when it's done.

Ah, at the time, I wondered why the ION Cannon's gun seemed to be 'missing' from this particular top shot that you released a while back adywan, but just thought that you were still working on that.

So going by your latest comments, it sounds like the gun is only *about to* emerge at this point, compared to where it is in your screenshot underneath -

Okay, I can see how Monroville thought that your latest trailer was partially revealing a 'recoil', like it does earlier in the movie, but this trailer snippet actually shows the gun 'emerging' upwards at this point it seems, as far as I can see...so I have a slightly different question about it in that case -  since the ION Cannon has already fully emerged to fire earlier in the movie when we first see it at the start of the battle...why would the rebels retract it inside the ball again, by the point we cut back to it in the scene above?  I'd always imagined the gun to be continuing to fire every now and then (unseen onscreen as various other transports continued to evacuate up to this point), even if the ball was rotated.

But even if it's thought of as needing to 'power-up' every now and then between blasts, I'm just wondering if the gun itself would really need to 'retract' and 're-emerge' in and out of the ball every time, or every time the ball may be required to rotate it's direction even?

If a totally 'retracting' and 're-emerging' gun effect every time between bursts is how you intend it to work in your version, that's fine...it's just that until your comments about it today, I originally expected to see the gun still fully out when we returned to it in your new scene here, once it had emerged out in the first place earlier in the movie.  Either way though, it's awesome that you've placed it into this scene in the first place, as I always loved the design of it. :)

ion cannon talk
I'm of the opinion that they didn't fire randomly, but hid the black cannon tip when it wasn't in use so the Empire didn't know exactly where to shoot to blow it up.

I agree, those stardestroyer captains may indeed have had good eyesight if they already didn't know where the cannon was. ;)

All this talk of recoil and such reminds me of a conversation I had with a Star Trek nerd (he likes Star Wars, but not nearly as much) around 15 years ago about how none of these things would really need to recoil because they're just lasers, even if they're powerful. Of course, they start getting into plasma projectiles and canisters (like with Chewie's bowcaster) and whatnot, but still, it is more of a 'looks cool' thing. :p

Not to get too off topic, but the weapons in Star Wars are plainly not lasers based on every single piece of evidence we can observe about them.

Does that mean they go faster? Have more horsepower?

Yes!  Faster!  More intense!

Han: "That wasn't a laser blast, something hit us" ;)

When things in a film gets a full blown explanation, that's when i lose interest. Its the main reason why i ignore any EU explanations. It's a fantasy film. I don't care if they are lasers, phasers or green strings of snot ;)

On another note For the past few weeks Andreas and myself have been testing out something and i'm really happy with the results. What is it? Well the title crawl. I've seen many attempts to re-create the crawl but everyone i have seen have had the same problems: as the crawl recedes the texts begins to flicker & strobe. It's an anti-aliasing problem which after effects really suffers with. Well we tested it out using 3dsmax and these problems have been ironed out. So ESB:R will have a new logo & crawl. the text will be the same but this means i will be able to have matching crawls for every film in the Revisited saga instead of the mismatched ones we have now.

I'll have to change my stance to 'I probably don't know' now. ;) But if it turns out I do, I'm gonna lord it over you like there's no tomorrow!
