Seems like a wip and its far from the final product ;)

no, it's the finished (well 95%) version. Apart from the audio of course.

The audio is temp but still i judge what i saw. The lip sync was poor.

And i'm supposed to take this seriously? Did you not read what i wrote when i described the clip?

adywan said:

It will have the original 1980 emperor for its audio track not only because i won't get to doing the audio until the full audio track is finished, but so you can also see just how close it is now when synced to the original lines.

It isn't meant to sync up exactly as it isn't even Ian saying the lines.

I'm a little bit confused on this Ady.  Your using the Clive Revill Emporer voice over Ian McDiarmid?

Can you post a clip of the scene?

He's inserted the Revill voice into the bonus clip to demonstrate how closely Revisited will follow the original. I'm pretty sure McDiarmid's voice will be in the finished edit.

I have a few questions here about fan edits, although I am not sure this the appropriate place for such a post. In any event, any help and or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm interesting point there.

So i have to ask. Final clips are always 90-5% versions that have some touches to be done or left our for the people that cant notice the small differences or for deadline reasons??

Ady Small note here: Behind piet when he informs vader is the remains, can i say, of the bridge set. Sure they cover up some windows or added some blocks but still would be nice to change that to like an endless hall or a room different from the bridge? I say it again it look like the bridge. Its not. But its the same set.

EDIT: I recheck the shot again. The passing officer(s) are some good change for the member cameos you were referring too ;)

Also. when the executor comes out from the asteroids, should be some remaining star destroyers behind or even the destroyed one that goes down?

Any change you will replace the executor element in one of the two shots( establishing at the beginning of the movie and in the asteroid shot) that is a flipped element? If we count the SE we have 3 shots of the same angle.detail/light. Was wondering if with some simple 3d camera projection(so it doesnt look like a 2d element with no distortion you can actually manage to change that.

Like that ( i Just noticed that it looks like an image sequence that executor turning its axis lol)

Ideas for the executor shoots some of the asteroids while passing through them? Or even the other star destroyers in the previous shots

As they mentioned and even from the trailer i can see you have enhanced/replaced many of the details from the emperor.

Will you bother/do any subtle enhancements to the officer holograms. adding/replacing some more detail to their faces or uniform?

Using the technique that you were used in palpatine. keeping the mouth moving and having a still from ROTJ (pretty clever)

Im not referring to any of the prequel holograms.

Just thinking since you enhanced (like you said) vader's holo it would be nice the officers can have a nice detail treatment while, as you know best, keeping the OT feeling.

Also something that were bugling my mind was the detail of the executor in that shot.

No detail no nothing. Only black filled areas

The second image is a flipped one from the bespin sequence.

Look how much detail executor have in the shadow areas and the lightning matches with the overall mood. The light variation and all. The first image reminds me badly colored BW images with one tone on everything.

The only problem is that the shot is cut before it can reach the desire spot of the SSD and the bridge.

My suggestion is that even from stills or cheat using the later shot and make the different sections of the ship, represent other ones. You can recreate that shot and have an executor worthy of compositing, continuity and aesthetically pov.

Otherwise you can use 3d renders and make your life easier ;)

Never noticed that before, hopefully Ady will fix this :)

That executor underside is only down to the crushed blacks in the 2004 transfer. You could see the underside prior to this. Unless a hd transfer of the pre 2004 version ESB miraculously turns up it's going to have to stay that way i'm afraid. CG isn't an option either. And i don't want to replace it with a different shot of the Executor because it would screw the compsite

And the other executor shot looks much better as it is originally as viewed from the underside.

Now i had to wait so i could be back at  home so i could access the video clip of the emperor so i could answer some of the other criticisms from sevb32

Sevb32 said:

There is  too much interference and shaking in the holo.

I've tried to match it to the interference seen in the 2004 version and the shaking is the same because i had to track the original hologram to add the new elements or they wouldn't have matched but i haven't added any additional shaking

Sevb32 said:

Behind palpatine the background looks too static. There was a little light that were blinking in the dark rentagle in the wall.

The lights are still there. I checked the clip and they are clearly visible in both the front and side view shots

Sevb32 said:

Vader's close up after a while was reversed footage.

This was the only option i had because the footage was cut down for the 2004 version so to recreate this shot i couldn't avoid it, but it's the same footage i used for my 1080p AVCHD ESB 97 recreation and no one noticed this so i'm not bothered about it. There are quite a few shots in ESB that does have reversed footage added to extend the shot and those have always been there since 1980

Sevb32 said:

I like but i dont if its correct that the lines in the side view to be angled and even the holo animation lines follow that. i like the aggresive look still it might be an artistic choice.

yes, this is the correct way the scan lines should appear in the side shots. Just look at the 2004 footage and you will see they are exactly the same.

Sevb32 said:

The glow in the emperor's side view was too clean. was begging for some grain
The changes between the clean and the distorted signal are way too fast. if they could be slightly slowed down it would be ideal.

The glow during the side and front shots is exactly the same because the same preset that i created was used. Don't forget you are watching a low bitrate XVID so some of the grain and noise isn't visible due to compression.

Ady, I only have two questions (for now) regarding the Extra's you'll put on the finished thing:

Easter eggs? (I assume 'yes')

Audio Commentary track? (OH GOD, I HOPE SO!)

Hey ady,

I'm just curious to see if your doing a custom DVD cover to match with the SW:R. I know your busy, but I'm just wondering because I really love the painting you did on the first cover.

Wow, shoot me for saying it, but can't people wait till Ady releases the finished movie before they start dissecting it. It's a bit unfair to start picking at it when you're not viewing it as a whole.

To Angel's point about cleaning up the officer's holograms so they look cleaner - aren't they distorted because of the asteroid field? And Vader has them move the Executor clear of the field so he can get a clear signal to the Emperor. I like the distortion on the officers, it works exactly how it's supposed to.

People have always dissected these clips when adywan posts them. It's part of the way things work on this thread. I think, like a professional, ady welcomes reactions of all kinds, or he wouldn't post the clips or engage in debate afterward. I've never seen him begrudge criticism, as long as it's not beating a dead horse, because such nitpicking and obsessive-compulsive geekery is what inspired such an awesome concept as fan-edits in the first place.

Besides, people want to dissect because there's a chance maybe that something noticed will have a positive impact on the finished product. In my experience, Ady seems to pretty thoughtfully consider all criticism, positive and negative. So, I wouldn't worry about a few people picking apart a clip. It's all in the interests of making the best Star Wars fanedit possible.

I admit I haven't seen any of the footage, but I came here to complain that ady didn't remove the very obvious snowflake from Chewie's foot early in the movie.

You raise a good point Lemonstein. Yeah, if the clip is only available to just a select few, please keep the discussions about it private until the release is finished. It's just not right to dissect a clip in front of those that are not authorized to view it.

You want to see the clip? Donate a couple pounds to help adywan finish ESB:R. It's not like you have to bankrupt yourself. If you can't right now, then skip past the discussion. I wish I could donate, but I'm helping my mom keep her house out of foreclosure, so money is very tight. But why shouldn't people discuss the clip just because we haven't gotten to see it? LOL

I agree with asterisk8.  You have the right to donate and see the clip, otherwise you have the right to ignore the discussion.  I see nothing wrong with people who have seen the clip discussing it.

Does anybody know if Kevin Smith knows about Adywan's edits? I'm sure he would love them and want to donate. I know he is aware of originaltrilogy.com, I didn't see clerks 2, but I heard this website was mentioned in that movie. He's probably on our side.

It might be interesting to add the chimp eyes into the ESB:R hologram and adjust the irises to match the ROTJ Emperor.

As I said earlier I rather liked the spooky effect the lowering of the lids created in context with the dialogue.

If the rest of the hologram is as well timed to the original dialogue as reported and evident in the trailer they should close in time with the new version too.

I'm not suggesting that Ady try it for his edit but it might be interesting to try and to view just to see if it adds something (it might be hilariously awful but it might be great).

I have no problem with people discussing the footage.

Many people on here donate 'out of season' when there isn't a call for donations with incentives.

Just because someone may not be donating now it doesn't mean they haven't provided financial assistance to Ady.

There are plenty of good reasons why people wouldn't donate right now.

I understand that for it to work as an incentive the footage has to be exclusive to people who donate during the time period but discussing it shouldn't be a problem.

It would be weird if he wasn't aware.

But if he's not  -  after ESB:R he sure as hell will be. :D
