I swear, some of you must skip over every post begging you to stop getting so off topic. I'm sadly unsubscribing from this thread right now because I'm tired of getting emails only to find comments like the four above mine.

It's really damn annoying.

Best of luck adywan and my warmest wishes, and I'll donate when I get a few more paychecks in my account.

I unsubscribed more than a year ago.  Your inbox will thank you.

PS to Radius: btw, what I like in the sig I mentionned as nothing to do with your presence in it. Just thought you'd appreciate to know.

The only reason I saw vb's signature is because of Frink's remark.
Otherwise I wouldn't even have noticed.

But thank you anyway.

Has the thought crossed your mind that we're all merely awaiting further updates from Adywan regarding his father/ESB:R?

Which is in fact...the topic?

Yes i know I'm not a mod, I sympathize with Adywan's unfortunate situation & I have told him this privately on FB as that is where it should be done...

While I agree that things are out of control in this thread and I'm one of the guilty ones, I would like to point out that adywan mentioned his problems here (as he has every right to do) and that he also has thanked people for their well wishes here.

I'll say it again adywan, all the best to you and your family.  Obviously you should work on this project as little or as much as you want or need to.

Regarding the subscription thing, I have to admit I don't understand why anyone would subscribe to this thread.  Other threads I get, but this one has so much activity that it hardly seems necessary.

We all agree with the fact Yoda doesn't really look like he is 800 years old. Ady, did you fix that ?

Not everyone has a Facespace account, I don't actively use one, I can't see why posting support for Ady here is in anyway different from posting it over there.

Both are interweb spaces for discussion and news about this project and Ady's troubles effect directly this project and emotionally we are connected to the guy and hope things get better for him.

It's not a biggy.

Once in a while the thread does wander off into areas where other threads would be better served but in this instance I don't see it.

Late hearing about your father Adywan, my thoughts are with you and your family.

I emailed Adywan a few weeks ago asking him what kind of hardware he got for his new computer and he told me this:

Hitachi DESKSTAR 2TB 3.5" SATA II 7200RPM 32MB Cache OEM

Akasa AK-968 CPU cooler LGA775 1156 1366

Gigabyte motherboard X58A-UD3R

Intel Core i7 930 CPU 2.8 GHz 8MB LGA1366 45nm

4x Kingston memory 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL8 (8-8-8-24)

Asus GeForce GTX470 Graphics Engine - PCI Express 2.0 1280MB GDDR5

He gave me the prices too, but I won’t post those, but I will tell you that things do cost about 10-20% more in the UK comparably to the US when converting GBP to USD currency.

I thought he had the top-of-the-line processor, but then I went to intel’s website and learned this:
http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?familyID=28037

The i7-970 core is the top-of-the-line core for the i7 processor series and is quite a bit more expensive than the other ones and has 6 cores instead of 4. But then I noticed he could have bought the Intel® Core™ i7-950 Processor (8M Cache, 3.06 GHz, 4.80 GT/s Intel® QPI) for the same price as the i7-930 model according to intel's main comparison website posted above. I don’t know if the website he bought his computer hardware priced the i7 950 core significantly more expensive than the i7 930, Adywan?

I live on a tight budget and am unable to donate to Adywan as much as some people here, but I am saving what money I can and planning on sending it to Adywan sometime in late November to early December so he has enough time to buy the i7 970 CPU without having to pay the increase in sales tax (or Value Added Tax as he calls it) coming in January. I would also like him to max out the RAM capacity of his motherboard. He currently has 16 gigs, and his motherboard specs say it can support up to 24 gigs. I asked him if 16 gigs is enough and he said, “when using FX software these are very RAM intensive so having more RAM the better.” But I don’t think I can do it alone, unless I move back in with my parents. So I am asking for your guy's help.

Adywan hasn’t returned my emails in the last few weeks, but I’m sure he is busy dealing with his Dad now. He told me that he gets hundreds of emails every couple of days and one day he had over 1000 to sort through, so don’t expect him to return your emails promptly.

The donations are going for a new CPU?

Wasnt for materials?

Why now it needs replacement? Isnt the currect one enough powerful for the task?

where all these money go?

Why not keeping your money already? Economy crisis?

No, donations aren't going towards a new CPU or any computer equipment.  Janskeet donated on the condition that it was to get a fast enough PC to do ROTJ:R in 1080p since the blu-rays will be available for next year. He told me it was not to be spent on materials unless i had any monies left over.I mentioned all this in here when Janskeet made the donation.  I could have just spent the money on materials and would have had enough to finish the edit but i am too honest to do something like this.

Any donations i get are solely for materials and nothing else.   And Ghostbusters i did reply last week. I'll have to resend the email again when i can get to my emails.

Ok, I've ironed out a few details for my Adywan fundraiser. I dont have copies of the film yet, but I found someone on these threads that was kind enough to ship me copies, and once I get them, here's what I'm going to be doing:

I send out the invite to everyone I know to be a star wars fan, asking them to come at the specified time and date, bringing with them drinks of their choice and ANYONE they know to be interested in Star Wars in any way shape or form. I will be asking everyone to bring with them a $20 bill that they can afford to part with, but specifying that they are in no way obligated to do so. I will explain that this event is of importance to anyone who hates what GL has done to the star wars movies.

Once they've all arrived, perhaps a VERY brief explanation about what they are about to see and then jump immediately into the film. Once its done playing, perhaps a quick exploration of the dvd menus to further impress everyone, and then I'll give a little speech. I will explain that first of all, this DVD is available online for free, but that secondly its also available immediately from me, for a $20 donation.....and explain that all funds are to go to Adywan's Revisited project.

So there it is, nothing terribly over the top, very simple to pull off.....alternatively, halloween is coming up, if anybody wanted to do a costumed version of this kind of event it would be relatively easy.....and might just get people even more into the spirit of this thing. I will be posting a message with details of how things went and (hopefully) how much I raked in to help Ady) once this is done

I think muddy is fine until he offers a copy for $20, even though he also says it's online for free.  All he has to do is say it's online for free, and here's a basket if you want to donate towards materials for the next one.

Oh, and don't tell anyone to bring $20.

Um, yeah.  Don't do that.

(The above was directed at Muddyknees' post, not Ady's or Frink's.  Just to clarify.)

Yeah you gotta be careful, muddy.  There are very fine lines between fundraisers and breaking the law.  Especially when dealing with the George Lucas Gistapo.

Firstly, like everyone else, I would like to express my sincere sympathies and say that I am thinking of you and your family Adywan at this difficult time.

Secondly, regarding donations, I know this has been asked before, but I don't remember seeing an answer to it.  In short, approximately how much money do you think it will take to get this project (ESB:R) actually completed?  I'm sure there are many of us that would like to donate (and I just have, and would urge others to do likewise), but I can't help thinking that a target for everyone to help aim for might spur a few more donations to be made.  Perhaps you could set up a webpage with a Blue Peter totaliser? ;-)

Times are tough for everyone, but I managed to send a few quid adywan's way.

Just send what money you can, it doesn't have to be a lot.

Every little bit helps.

Agreed..

Putting a money goal of how much is costing something and what is this something can motivate more the people for donations.

All tied it up :)

Hmm....ok, thought I had sidestepped that issue adequately enough.....but a couple good points were raised that now have me questioning things. So as long as I dont ASK for donations, and simply leave it up to the individuals themselves......does that suit you better Ady?

Well shit, idk that materials were in such demand. I guess I'll have my donation go towards supplies then. I am just a hardware junkie and I wanted Adywan to have the best processor consumers can buy. As for the CPU he currently has, I figured he could sell it and maybe just lose a few quid over it.
