The Executor having reverse engines would sound fine and all, but I think they were made for a more modest space age, not for the age of mass produced warfare of this scale.

I dont think the Empire would even play with he thought of putting that on such a big ship like that, it's supposed to be their Titanic and no force in the universe could stand against it when used in a fleet.

Much unlike the Rebells, the Empire does not belive in small victories..it's conquer or destroy...not live to fight another day.

I don't think the emperor himself designed the executor and I don't think a sith wouldn't know what fear is. Besides it's Vader's flagship, and as far as we know from EU, Vader actually does design his own ships (Tie x1 advanced); and the Empire cannot permit theirselves losing Vader. However, as far as I understood this is an offtopic and we shouldn't be discussing this on this thread

I noticed a while back (way back) someone had mentioned a scene with Darth Vader arriving on the Death Star that was used from unused footage from ROTJ and reinserted into the SE. It had Moff Jejerrod I believe?

I was wondering if Ady had decided on if he was going to leave this in or is this something that is hitting the cutting room floor along with the rest of the "Darth Vader arriving scene from Bespin" scene?

Kinda off topic: I had noticed that during the battle of Yavin there was a scene taken from ROTJ with an X-wing flying over the DS surface so it would seem that it wouldn't be too far of a stretch for Ady to leave or tweak that SE "Vader arriving"  DS2 scene if he wanted and could find a reason to keep it.

Anyone know anything final about this?

Mostly it is...mostly.

 Nice Aliens reference there...;-)

Adywan is excising all the additional elements of Vader going from Cloud City to the Executor from the SE, and restoring the original line "Bring my shuttle", so as to restore the original pacing of the scene.

I expect that shot will not be used in ROTJ:R given how obvious it is; Ady expects to be doing a lot of work on that battle.

I can tolerate the new Wampa footage and I absolutely loved the additional tracking shot of Slave 1 stalking the Millenium Falcon, but the addition of the "Vader's Journey Back to the Executor (because god knows, we were totally and completely clueless about how he actually got back there)" scene is the most horrendous and hack-job tweaks in the whole Special Edition. It almost completely ruined ESB:SE for me.

Why on Earth you would even ask to keep that footage in? The insertions completely take you out of the action and the flow of the Empire climax.

Adywan has long ago said the climax will be restored to its former glory.

"Darth Vader... tall and threatening in his black helmet, flowing black cape, and a face, forever masked, by a foreboding metal breath screen...

Darth Vader... a figure, who moves forever in a cloud of awesome evil!"

To notice this un(in?)famous scene is the only time in the whole trilogy they dared cutting a music track (and not the least) in its middle that way. The only thing I'd say about that is that Lucas has balls ! :/

I didnt ask to keep the footage in I was just wondering what Ady had planned for that bit of a mess Lucas called a new scene.

I agree it should be taken out but it's Ady's call so I just wondered if he had made a final decision is all.

@ DoubleoFive...I really like the splitscreen comparison shots you did for ANH:R are you going to do the same for EBS:R?

I noticed something while doing a splitscreen video of the original laserdisc version and Adywan's version, it's in the hanger after Luke say's goodbye to Leia.

I know it's way off topic but I'm trying to stretch it to fit here ;-O.

Did anyone else notice this?

I'll post a link to view:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgodhJDckeQ

I was just wondering because Luke is holding his helmet at a different angle. Via the helmet stripes.

One is angled towards his body and the other more towards the floor.

It's from the same take. But for the SE they used a later section for instead of splitting up the shots

and if you look at the troopers feet placement by the red light on the floor they are in a different spot...one more forward and one more towards the back of the light.

I've always felt it was possible to save this one shot where we see Vader's shuttle leaving Bespin. It doesn't throw the music off, and you get the visual confirmation that he's made it back to the Executor. IMO, the best of both worlds

Vader's shuttle

Do we really need visual confirmation? He obviously makes it back. I think this falls into the "modern movies hold your hand too much" category.

Agreed.  And isn't that shot (minus the shuttle, obviously) just reused from when the Falcon is leaving Bespin a few minutes later?

Vader's shuttle

The problem is that it takes you away from the action and drama of the current scene (of Luke in peril and the Falcon on the way to rescue him) to show a virtually meaningless shot of Vader's shuttle flying back to the Executor.

You should be focused on what Luke is doing at the moment, not something that is ultimately inconsequential. Vader got back to the Executor... he took a shuttle to do it... big deal.

As an SFX shot, it's pretty basic, even boring and pedestrian. Bottom line, it does not ADD anything to the story except additional eye candy (pretty bland eye candy too)

"Darth Vader... tall and threatening in his black helmet, flowing black cape, and a face, forever masked, by a foreboding metal breath screen...

Darth Vader... a figure, who moves forever in a cloud of awesome evil!"

I have to disagree.

Movies are supposed to be about show, not tell. The work has already been done.

It's a quick snippet.

It gets the info across.

It doesn't affect the film is any negative way like keeping the whole scene would.

Personally, I can't see any downside in keeping it.

It doesn't affect the film not have have it neither.

PS: besides, we haven't seen this ship anywhere before in the film, and we won't. It's enough to disturb your attention. It doesn't belong to the Empire universe.

ABC is right about the shuttle not belonging to ESB, just as Ady stated AT-ST was not going to be on Hoth, as it belonged to ROTJ.

I'm quite sure Ady is not including the "look-at-my-new-cool-ship shuttle scene" in Luke's rescue, as he is trying always to mantain the pace of action... and this nonsense shuttle scene is quite like a "filmus interruptus" ;)

I think there may still be a shuttle in ESB:R (correct me if I'm not up to speed with the changes) Captain Needa's shuttle was in there the last time I checked.
