I did a search and didn't see it mentioned, but on the battle of Hoth, in a few scenes the wing flaps on the snow speeders open on the wrong side of the craft for the direction they are going.  The best example is around 28:21 (after the AT-AT "commander" (?) pulls down the viewfinder), where the left flaps opens and the speeders go right.

Having played Rogue Squadron years ago and from watching the majority of the speeders, they get the flaps right, but a few of them are off.  If you increase air resistance on one side, you will pivot to that side.  A majority of the changes people have listed would have escaped me, but this stood out for some reason.

Awesome job Adywan and everyone else for all the work and releases so far.

I'm not sure on how much detail Ady will be adjusting the wing flaps in those scenes, the main issue with them was that the animated scaled models had operational flaps whereas the full scaled props with actors were static.

Adywan had hinted that he was going to try and match the live action shots to the model shots.........don't know if he was going to adjust the scenes to the laws of physics, but i'd be happy if the models & live action were to blend.

Has any thought been given to maybe moving the Vader/Palpatine scene earlier in ESB, perhaps even as the 1st scene  in which we see Vader? The most I know is Ady is altering the dialogue a bit.

In Ady's trailer it's amazing that the scene's dialogue works so well as a set up for the entire film so it just got me thinking perhaps it could be much earlier?

Then there wouldn't be the issue of "does Vader know or not know of Luke during that key scene" -  considering he'd already been searching for Luke by name at that point anyway.

The scene later on where Vader is told the Emperor wants to speak with him would simply have to be cut short.

According to George Lucas at CV - that was in fact the moment Vader learned for certain Luke was his son. (for what it's worth)

Anyway - just thought I'd throw it out there for the sake of possible discussion.

it wouldn't work earlier in the movie. It couldn't be placed as the first scene we see Vader because the flow would be ruined. The probe is destroyed and then we have the imperial fleet reveal. This scene is the confirmation that the Empire have received the probes data before it was destroyed and that they are on the way to Hoth to kick some ass.

I've also just noticed that this topic has now had over 1 million views :)

I hear you about the flow of the movie though......plus we are so used to it playing out as it always has.

With all the incredibly hard work Adywan has accomplished with both ANH-R and the completed scenes of ESB-R I've seen on Youtube - I have to say, some praise is in order, providing a little respite from all the demands.

I think Adywan has hit the right tenor and course for his edits on our favorite films of all time.  He did not change them to the point of affecting pacing, story or imact.  He has hit the perfect balance of correction and enhancement.

Not only do these edits look even better than when I remember seeing them in '77 and '80, all the little 'additions' and EFX of Adywan's Edits are the surprise "Ooooh's" and "ahhhhhhs" that were sadly lacking from the SE's, the exception being the digital dogfight fixes in ANH-SE.  Adywan's edit completely trumps Lucas' SE's because as the love and attention is clearly evident in the work Adywan presented.

The clip of the Ion Cannon segment from his Empire Edit had me exclaim out loud 'That was awesome!'.  A true surprise that completely took my expectation up and beyond what I was expecting from this edit considering out of all the films in the Saga, Empire is the one I thought needed the least amount of tinkering.  The truly wonderful thing is that nothing is taken away from the pacing or overwhelming the original with stuff that so extra-curricular that it diminishes our childhood memories.

Watching the ANH-R with those who are only cursory Star Wars fans, they had no knowledge of what was actually changed and enhanced from when they saw the original and SE film - and that I believe is the hallmark of the painstaking perfection achieved with Adywan's edits.

So it's no stretch to say that I trust what Adywan is doing with his edits.  He is making the saga we love reach the perfection that we all imagined in our mind's eye.

Empire is in great hands.

Jedi - well, that we know is going to be much more involved with tweaking.  If I was to pester - my own fondest wish is for a more spectacular and better ending for the Executor, but given what Adywan has treated us all to already - I'm confident our beloved saga is in excellent hands.

Not too much, not too little - just right.

^^ Agreed...ANHR is now my standard version of the saga....and ESB will be the same.

Congrats on reaching a million AdY!

I'm pretty sure Ady's entire OT will at one point be everyone's standard version. That point of course being when he has completed the final chapter, since no self-respecting Star Wars fan could possibly have not heard about this project (...) :)

Still very excited, still horribly disappointed that this great edit will be at the cost of IMHO the most enjoyable scene in the whole movie for me.

Which scene would that be?

That would be the transport escape scene, I always look forward to it and I always get a thrill from it, it's one of the few small victories for the rebels in the movie, and as such is so much more enjoyable. Apart from looking incredibly fake in the trailer, having one x-wing shot down like that complete destroys that moment of victory.

It's probably going to be one of the few, if not the only change in the edit that might keep it from replacing GOUT for me.

Incredibly fake? In what way does it look "Incredibly" fake? And having one X-Wing shot down doesn't change anything. The victory is still there. The Stardestroyer is disabled and the transport escapes.

Yeah, I thought it looked awesome in the trailer, one of the "wow!" moments for me. And I agree it doesn't change the victory, just makes it more real.

Don't worry I have it on good authority that the pilot of that Xwing was a complete and total dip-shit and no one really missed him when the fleet met at the Rendezvous point. and as for that little prick droid of his well lets say no other droid would have wanted to use his remains as spare parts.

Does that help any? :P

What. The. Hell?!?!

I know, everyone is entitled and all, but not to suck up or anything, but how could that scene have been improved any more?  This time, the victory is earned, as there is at least a bit of loss (hey, the Imperials can actually hit something now!).  Frankly, all 3 should realistically be blown away in seconds if the Imps were a real 1st world country military force like what we have in the US or what is in the UK... buuut this is STAR WARS after all (with the WW2 accuracy) and it is still about the good guys still winning.  Even so, it has to be earned through blood and suffering, and this one scene is pretty exemplary of that.

I guess I don't comprehend how you could come to that opinion.

Adywan's addition in this incredible sequence adds the weight of peril and gravitas that was only merely hinted at in the original.  It showcases the desperation the rebels faced in that cell being able to escape an Imperial blockade, and how impossible it would have been without the Ion cannon.

Plus, Adywan's addition gives Reikkan's concern later on in the battle, much more weight when he says "I don't think we can protect two transports at a time".  The fact we see one escort obliterated by Imperial fire in Adywan's edit explains the risk the rebels faced by trying to send two transports at once to escape.

Also, logically, after the commander says "Good, our first catch of the day" - why is the Destroyer NOT firing at the escaping transport and escorts?  Adywan fixes that logical omission.

That an X-wing pilot is lost in that opening salvo of the Battle of Hoth is PERFECT.  The victory is in ESCAPING the Empire, the sacrifices adding to it's cost, and importance.

I agree. I was totally blown away by Ady's changes to that scene.
