Even though I respect your answer, I don't think it would be that hard when using the Puppet tool for some minor articulation.

Please don't see this as a way of whining to still do it, just pointing it out.

I can play nice :-D

But the puppet tool can't turn something into a 3D object. you couldn't use a 2D image and use it to articulate his hand because it would look fake. you need a 3D object for something like this

Hi Ady.

I noticed something while watching your theatrical restoration, sorry if you've already fixed it or said you couldn't.

As Luke tells Yoda "You want the impossible", Yoda is standing on a flat ground.

Then Yoda starts levitating the X-wing, we don't see him move but next time we see him :

He has been teleported into some kind of... Log or whatever... On a ground higher than the one he was a mere minute before.

i've sort of fixed it. If you look at the scene a bit earlier in this sequence when Luke loses his balance and Yoda falls, well when you see Yoda get up that is actually the shot of him climbing up onto the mound to raise the x-wing, only they flipped it and moved it earlier. i've moved that back into its rightful place and just need to figure out what to use for the other shot now

It looks ok to me for the most part.  It looks like he is on a hill surrounded by fog in the first shot.  In the second shot the fog looks lower than it should be.  If anything, lowering his mound a bit in the second shot would be all that is needed.

Mike

Edit: my response was to the one right before Ady's (not trying to argue or anything).  We posted at the same time. :-)

I never noticed... Do you figure that because of some detail in the shot or it was explained in some documentary?

I just recently found out about your work with Episode 4 thanks to an arstechnica article and it was amazing.  I can't wait for Episode 5 Revisited.  Are you an editor by trade?

Funny thing, Ady.  I did the the exact same thing with that shot when I made my edit of Luke successfully raising his X-wing.

the shot is at 1:10 of this clip

As I recall, Ady has absolutely no editing background prior to ANH:R. He learnt everything from scratch when creating his edits. I remember when I first watched ANH:R with a friend, he was absolutely positive that he must be a pro editor - especially when it came to the reworked Battle of Yavin. :)

I never said it wasn't hard, I said I didn't THINK it would be. Now stop poking like that and eat some popcorn with me.

....okay then, here's the shot of Yoda that is 'flipped'....it seems to just be this one, and it's where he gets up after falling during Luke's training....

....I've included the shots of Luke to put it in context...but I'd personally prefer for this Yoda shot to be re-'flipped' too, as it will still seem that he is somewhere to the side of where Luke is glancing....  We soon get used to re-'flipped' shots anyway.

I'll be covering a lot more to do with certain 'Dagobah' stuff when I get the chance.

Has it really been 3 months since I asked about this one?  I started to draft up something with screenshots concerning various 'Dagobah' issues that caught my eye (including the 'Yoda positioning' brought up by Isley just now), but ongoing family distractions have gotten in the the way of finishing it all off yet.  I'll get back onto it as soon as I can though.  :)

Interesting to see that you're still thinking about what to replace the 'flipped' Yoda shot with adywan, since you decided to move it from here completely.  Althought we've been used to seeing 'Yoda getting up' at this point, I'll show a couple of alternatives that might work okay instead, to see what you think.

^^Hey IF, if you could post the entire movie frame by frame, we could watch it with our click wheels.  Now who was it that made that flip book comment?

Yeah TVF, I reckon that's the way this person should layed out this stuff, lol. -  http://disparue.org/gallery/5/movies/sw/5/

Just wanted to show that Luke is glancing to his left, before we cut back to him beginning to get up.  Will be interested to see if anyone has a solution for adywan to consider.

This isn't a way to get me on that exclusive list, but people like Darth Editious, Angel and doubleofive have certainly contributed with stuff like mockups and such.

Thanks for that :D

Nice to see the yoda shots are fixed ady :)

Well a later workprint has been given to  Rogue Leader & the 2nd unit and to 005 today but its still very rough. I don't want anyone pestering these people for any information about the workprint because they won't tell you anything as i trust them 100% i won't be sending out a finished beta version though to anyone. If i miss a few little things then so be it.

and on behalf of my Rogues and the rest of the 2nd unit we thank you for letting us witness this awesomeness. ^^ We are most honored. Ady is right, we will not be giving up information concerning changes that haven't been released. Ady has been very generous as is concerning the number of clips and footage already out there. However, I will say this... I'm already proclaiming that this version will be my definitive version of ESB. Color correction alone is worth it but you will be totally blown away as much as ANH:R originally did if not more so. No mistake there... speaking of which, no movie is perfect but if anything, I will bet on Ady's attention to detail anyday of the week especially over what's released from LFL. XD

Subtlety is the word, friends. I had to rewind several parts just to see if anything had truly changed. I would say that a huge number of shots are left to do, December would have been a tough mark to hit. And don't be too jealous, a majority of the changes have already been showcased in clips. It is nice to see them all in a row though, plus a few new things here and there.

Overall, it's great, but there is still so much to do. The time waiting will be worth it.

It was recommended to me to post this here instead of the "wishlist" thread, so here goes:

Remove the TIE Fighters from the shot where the Imperial fleet arrives at Hoth.  TIE's don't have hyperdrives, and it doesn't make sense to have them appear from behind the Star Destroyers.  They don't look natural in the shot anyway and are a distraction.  Plus, the TIE's aren't in any other shot around Hoth.  Perhaps a shot of them launching from under the Star Destroyers would be better, then they could be sent out to intercept the Rebel ships coming into their sector.

There are of course differing opinions on this, but that's what this place is about.  :)

Interesting idea.

I know Ady is insistent that landing craft  not be added, I would imagine deploying TIES might fall under the same category.  It would be fun to see in some form or another.
