I hate to confirm what BmB said about zooming, but it is correct that when you zoom in on a 3D image, the "closer" elements do not move spatially against the "further away" elements. The reason is simple-- your position behind the camera has not changed.
yeh, i don't know why i said there would be any spacial movement is a zoom but i guess i'm not really thinking straight at the moment. What i was meaning to say was optical distortion for zooming. oh well.
Mum was rushed into hospital saturday morning with severe breathing difficulties and with everything else thats wrong with here recently its not looking good. She is deteriorating pretty fast and the doctors have told us to prepare for the worse. We're all preying that she will fight back and make a miraculous recovery like last time. So running back and forth between the hospital, helping out my 80 year old dad, getting the costume accessories ready to ship out to the 2 unit for filming and working on the edit is a bit stressful to say the least at the moment so i won't be fully back for a while and if i appear to be snappy in my posts then i apologise.

The next time someone throws an issue down to a matter of taste I don't know what I'm going to do. But for now I will merely harm my keyboard with my forehead. Or the other way around if you will.
That is to say, if you disagree tell me why, don't just say it.
well thats very mature. So if anyone disagrees with your infinite wisdom then you become aggressive. Why do most of your posts here at OT.com consists of saying things are crap? Not just here but in other threads too? instead of bashing anything anyone seems to be doing why don't you show us what you can do? If you are so knowledgeable about such things then you must have some experience in art or 3D so please show us how it should be done to look convincing then.
Evereyone else realises that DE's shaft clip is a work in progress and was just a test to show what could be done and they can seem to get that little detail into their heads when judging it so why can't you? You don't like it. Ok, we get it. we have our own opinions and you have yours.
so, at the end of the day, i guess its a matter of taste ;)

BmB reminds me of killLucas, i think that was the screen name, that is before he got kicked off. :p
yeh, he does remind me of an ex- member of here. Not too sure if it was killlucas or not but his writing styles are very similar to a banned member.

Ady, great to see your back on the edit! Hope your wife is getting better.
I have a couple of questions about the camera your using when you film the starships. Does it film at the same frame rate they used to film the actual models, one frame per second? I know you can adjust the shutter speed, but if it doesn't have the ability to film at the same rate, will the quality be a little bit different even if you change the frame rate in post?
Just a few questions I have been wanting to ask for a while.
The camera speeds available are; 25fps@1080p & 50fps@1080i. the good ting about the 50fps is that it can be deinterlaced to 1080p@25fps which will give a slow motion look which will be perfect for filming the Wampa to give the puppet added weight and also good for other shots

If you don't mind my asking, is the only reason you don't want to use DE's technique for the vane shot because you feel you'd be copying him? Would this be an issue for you, DE? Perhaps there's a code of conduct among fan editors that I'm unaware of.
For the record I have absolutely no problem with anyone using any part of my edit for their own, as long as they don't try to pass it off as their own work. But, and I suspect Adywan may feel the same way (though I'm not suggesting he would want to use my shot), it would feel like I was cheating myself to use someone else's work. It is kinda hard not to "draw inspiration" (i.e. nick the idea) from some of the stuff Ady's done, though! ;)
I'd also like to publicly thank Adywan for taking the time to help me out with a bit of broadcast HD footage I needed for my edit - thanks!
DE
well i wanted to build a model set mainly because i wanted to be able to do the idea i had of the longer sweeping shot that combines the matte and the following shot of luke. But if it isn't possible to pull that off then i would probably have to do something similar to DE's shot. I wouldn't be using your shot tough DE, i would be doing my own version from scratch.
No thanks needed DE :). I was glad to be able to be of some help
