Adywan, when you release ESB:R will it be AVCHD or MKV, I know it's a long way off but I'm just curious.

Also, I just finished downloading your ANH:R PAL DVD9 and it's great! I've only tested in on my PC for now because I need to buy new DVD9s.

I love the new duel, but I hope that you're not going to change the duel in ESB:R (or ROTJ:R for that matter) since they were already well choreographed. The duel in ANH was always a bit short, but the ones from ESB/ROTJ were just perfect to me.

He won't, just as he won't add any PT music to it, fortunately.

Ady, how did you make the new Emperor hologram?  It looks like entirely newly filmed footage, which is impossible, of course...

He used Footage from ROTJ's Emperor and the lip sync is from ROTS emperor.

WOW.  It's seamless, that's amazing!

I'm totally jealous IF. we haven't had a flake of snow here :(

Be careful what you wish for....  ;)

Yeah, it's been a nightmare going back to work this week.  While it was neat for the kids to get a white Christmas here, I thought it would be gone in a week, so it's certainly outstayed it's welcome now....  I went into my fridge to heat up....brrrrr....

Sorry to hear about the bad luck with the car.  Such a hassle.  And I remember seeing the news item about your town centre's big gas explosion....scary stuff....

By the way, did you get my PM okay that I sent on 7th Jan. about a couple of things?

....so although the 'scaling' issues may have to slide, I reckon things would have tied better together if we could at least have seen the brief hint of an 'opposing leg-joint' coming in-and-out-and-in-again added during the approximate 5 seconds of 'prop' footage where Luke swipes upwards with his lightsaber....

I'm planning on building a model of the top leg joint to replace the movie version to fix the detail and try to match the movement. It's impossible to fix the gap between the two leg joints because it would block out the hatch but there may be a way to add a hint of the other leg. If i can't get it too look right though it will have to stay the way it is.

Wow, another model!  Fingers crossed that things here can be improved a little.

Something ive noticed is that the tube/tool/whatever that is near han is moved when the droid pushes it. but in the next shot in the close up its again at its first position.

already fixed :)

Great stuff.

And secondly if the AT-ATs are so low how the heck can fire at snowspeeders in straight lines. Arent the lasers supposed to be from the ground(aka Walkers)?

The tiny AT-AT's are being replaced so it looks like they are flying closer to the walkers

More great stuff.

vaderios's top 2 'zoomed-in' shots are taken from the single shot where Han gestures to the moving beeping droid and tells it to "Wait a minute", where it then immediately comes to a halt and stops beeping before Han then asks Luke "You all right?

We then cut to Luke who responds "Yeah", and then cut to the 'close-up' of Han seen in the 3rd shot down.  At this point we now see the droid continue to beep and trundle past Han....

Well Han actually says "wait a second" and the droid does wait then carries on with what he was doing, so he did obey Han. I think its fine the way it is.

Oops, that's right, Han says "Wait a second", rather than "Wait a minute", so it can seem as if the droid has started up on it's way again a few moments later.  Although it always seemed jarring to me, and I'd have preferred it to have remained off-screen while waiting for Han's instructions, this possibility works okay too.

Hah. Think yourselves lucky, snowed-in folks. Where I am it's going to hit 41°C (106°F) tomorrow. Even hotter where Johnny Ringo is. I know cold sucks as much as heat, but at least it's easier to warm up than to cool down.

@ 6:46, downfall of the Tauntaun: Is it just me or does anyone else notice that the falling Tauntaun still has this effect of a stop-motion-creature (especially the leg)? It doesn't look natural, i. e. smooth.
As far as I recall Adywan did improve the movement of the tauntaun in the first scene we see one (Luke riding it), didn't he?

Not everybody enjoys the snow

That's not Hoth in the background. Hoth has no cars, either has the Empire. It's a fake!

The clip you linked to is still messed up.  Here's a perfect version - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJD6fUC7VxY

Can't say that one ever bothered me though, as I thought it was just part of the charm of the stop-motion work.  I remember Ray Harryhausen saying that he deliberately 'over-exaggerated' certain movements to add 'character'.  I reckon Phil Tippett did the same.

When the rebel command center has been hit one can see a chair on the left side of the screen and it has a red light on it, this red light gives an lens echo in the camera.

You mean this? It got me some time to dig what you said back then. If yes i assume is the reflection because the camera is behind the fallen glass monitor.

battle

A lot of the soldiers running away from the AT-ATs have been copy pasted, they keep doing the same things like: turning and looking at the AT-ATs.

It's not an easy thing to notice perhaps...but there are 3 or 4 troopers in the background doing the same exact thing 1 after 1..goes pretty fast though. can ya see it Angel? or anyone?

I mentioned this last year sometime...don't know if this will be dealt with or not...

This has probably already been answered, but will there be a Blu-Ray release for ESB:R since it's being edited in 720p? If so, is there anyone at this site who can burn Blu-Ray discs in exchange for donations/reimbursement?

Author
Time

There will be an AVCHD release (or something like that, someone correct me if I mixed up the letters), which is essentially a DVD-9 disc that uses Blu-Ray formatting (and thus can have Ady's 720p version). Computers and PS3s can read them, not sure about regular Blu-Ray players.

If my PS3 can play it then that's good enough for me. Still, a Blu-Ray release would be swanky.

Author

Certain regular Blu-Ray players can read AVCHDs.  My Sony can, which isn't surprising since PS3's can read them.  Not sure about other brands.  Dig out your instruction manuals.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Hi guys,

A motion test to see if Han and Chewie could be resized to improve the scale of the Falcon, at present I've only adjusted Han, gonna try and fix Chewie & dash next.  I also fiddled with the droid who interrupts the next scene of Han & Luke as suggested by Vaderios, I know Ady isn't going to fix these scenes so I thought I'd mock them up just to see if everyone thinks it is worth it.

Sorry just realised I rendered this clip with no audio, I'll render audio with the next post, and hopefully adjust Chewie

Also noticed top of Han's welding tool as he swings it up

See you removed the droid from Han's first 'close-up' too Jaitea.  Will be interested to see how this plays out with audio in your finished version eventually.

Just read this article on the many "restorations" the OT has suffered:

http://secrethistoryofstarwars.com/savingstarwars.html

Quite interesting, though I suppose some of you have probably already read it :)

After reading this article it becomes apparent how much of a cockup Lucas has done to these movies! It almost makes you want to call the movie protection agency to take the movies away from their abusive father.
