Have you ever seen a "one way mirror" (like they use in cop shows) or mirror sunglasses?

To the outsider, it looks like an opaque surface. To the insider, it looks transparent.

I own a pair of mirror shades that appear to be mirrored bright blue, but when I put them on... seeing out, it only appears that my field of view is just a little dimmer (to blot out intense sunlight).

The AT-AT windshields may be a similar thing. Since we aren't up super close, we may not see the reflection effect on the outside's red eye thing.

Or perhaps the red "Eyes" are not the same as the viewport that the Stormtroopers and General Veers are looking out from... are we even sure about that?

I just think it would look crappy to make all those interior scenes visibly red tinted and just isn't necessary.

With regards to colouring the inside of the AT-AT cockpit red, perhaps it would be better if only the inside of the window was slightly coloured red?

I was always under the impression the glass in the window was red, or a red light was being projected out of it, not so much that the entire cockpit was lit red. I like the idea of subtly adding red to the windows, but not drowning the interior in red light.

As for prequel vehicles, I'd rather not see any Clone War tanks or ground vehicles, but a couple of dropships seen way in the distance wouldn't be that bad. But then, I did always like the idea that they had to land the AT-ATs REALLY far away.

I'm thinking that maybe the cockpit window should be tinted red at the very least, and at the very awesomenest have a full heads-up display on it.  Targeting displays and whatnot.  That'd be awesome, but maybe a bit much.  I trust Ady to keep the right tone with his cut of the movie.

I agree to a certain extent with this quote. If the AT-AT cockpit is red, why aren't all the other walkers and spaceships of the Empire have a red interior? Having all the imperials in a red lit room would look to out of place with the rest of the series.

Will someone please show me this redness in the AT ATs? I have never seen it.

At least outside the Rebel's sheilded area. And the drop ships would be vulnerable to surface to air durring the drop, so that's another good reason to mount your offensive line at a distance.

There are some shots where the "windshield" part glows red, mostly in promos, but I can't find the nice closeup of the cockpit about to explode where I think its really red.

The one shot of the imperial fleet is fine if the ships all face different directions, but the one ship sliding along the arrow needs correction pretty badly. If Adywan only did that, the shot would still be much improved.

Here's a couple more ideas I had for your consideration:

Falcon full size detail corrective matte: The Falcon full size prop was shot from a few angles that the set dressers didn't anticipate. Sometimes the detail level doesn't hold up.

http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/6640/falconmattexa7.th.jpg

Hoth Walker idea: This is really more of a general idea rather than just the one shot. Since the Hoth battle is going to be bigger and more intense, how about using a few prequel walkers?

http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/5719/walker1jb0.th.jpg

I like the idea of the walkers being dropped by the ships, but I wouldn't have any AT-TE walkers.

We've already had a glimpse of a few more AT-ATs from Adywan in the current 'Empire' teaser trailer, and they look just great.  Taste is a strange thing, but I myself didn't like the look of a lot of the design-work in the prequels, and don't think prequel designs will add much to 'Empire's' AT-AT proceedings.  But Ady may disagree.

The only thing I think should be added is the shot just before the Rebel sees the AT-ATs with his macrobinoculars might have the tail end of a huge landing craft pulling up, and that's what's making all the smoke.  CG prequel ships lit from Geonosis next to stop-motion AT-ATs lit with the white light of Hoth would stand out way too much.

I really like the idea of adding some dropships (not necessarily PT ones, perhaps something from the XWing games?) in somewhere - I believe that this discussion was had elsewhere, though, to little avail. I think an all-new approach shot of the dropships leaving the Star Destroyers and heading for the surface would look super-awesome, but as someone said a few posts back, we all really just want all the spaceships and walkers beating the shit out of each other for two hours flat :)

On the interior of the walkers - I totally agree that there should be no red colouring for the interior shots, on the 'shiny sunglasses' theory. While the idea of having a huge HUD would be super-duper cool, I can't think of any other instances of HUDs elsewhere in the OT...

I am NOT a committee!

only in this shot do any of the AT-AT's have a red cockpit window and its only the lead AT-AT in this one. all others there is no red tint. So i'm just going to remove the red from the window in this shot and the problem is solved.

I won't be adding any form of PT vehicles to the Hoth battle. Also we don't need to see any drop ships. Thats a bit too close to the type of thing that GL would do

Adywan: Are you going to restore the old engine noise to the Slave-I from 1980/1997 or are you planning to keep the "motor-boat" sound that was dubbed in in 2004?

I haven't decided on anything for the audio yet apart from replacing Boba's voice with the original and a couple of other lines replaced. Once i get around to concentrating on the audio i'll have a better idea of what will be changed

That Vader Hologram does ned fixing. That was some bad bluescreen work. But there are no other shots of Vader from that angle that i could use. The only way i could do it is if someone here knows someone with an authentic Vader costume that could film some new footage, at the exact same angle and doing the same movements, that i could use for the hologram

I bet there's a few who will queue for that one.... ;)  Is there any way to 'feather' out the existing 'outline' a little on the existing one?  Even that would tidy it up a little.

Did Adywan just ask someone to be in the movie?  I think I just died.

Anyway, here's my Vader costume.  I haven't worn it in a while though...

How can you tell that the lens - if it's even there - is missing in the other shot?  Maybe it's not even there in the first shot, maybe it's just a weird lighting reflection from off-camera.  If it is actually a lens part on there, maybe it's designed recessed so that you can't see it from the other angle in the second shot.

Find a third shot that proves or dis-proves the existence of the lens one way or the other...that will decide which shot needs to be changed.

here are a few shots to 'prove' my point...

I always thought when people said the "lens" was missing while Fett was loading Solo, I thought they were crazy.  You see, I thought they were talking about the whole antenae assembly, which is quite obviously there.  I never would have noticed that.  Thanks seven, I guess.  More flaws in my favorite movie.  *sniff*

Agreed.  Dropships and prequel ships need not be in ESBR.  As my disdain for the prequels grows over time, these additions would sour my take on ESB.

RE: More walkers/AT-STs.  I'm all for a few more walkers here and there, but please no new shots (it'll mess up the battle music and interupt the flow).

As I, and others, have said in the past, ESB is pretty close to a perfect movie.  Correcting glaring mistakes is great, but going overboard and adding in SFX just for the sake of adding them has Lucas written all over it.  I again want to put my opinion in that ESB needs only a clean up and one doesn't need to go all out adding new shots all over the place.

As an aside to my point and a personal preference, I would, however, be interested in seeing how a few more TIEs fit into the asteroid field chase scene as is.  It may not work (again, the music ties perfectly into the action we see), but it would be neat to see a few more TIEs getting smashed or crashing into each other.  But hey, if it detracts or changes the flow, the additions aren't needed.

O.T. or No T., baby!

Actually, I think the Executor looks fine in this shot; the pesrspective makes the Executor looks huge.  I like that effect.  Ady, thinking of playing around with the Star destroyers/creating some new shots, with more TIE Fighters?

I just noticed that the shot of the underside of the Executor doesn't have the same lighting as the next shot, both of them shown in that picture.

Example of a lens flare in ESB:

Maybe for the "extras" you could put in a fun clip of the AT-AT's each with a little red dot that goes back and forth horizontal. After Veers says "target the shield generator, maximum firepower" you could hear a metallic voice say "By your command."  ;)
